Was mixed on getting this with all of the feedback, but am glad I did, let me explain. Coming in, I had heard of the issues (crashes, framerate, control issues) and went in with these expectations. Yes, they are true for the most part. What I do see is the potential and ground work for something better - it's just too bad that the something better seems to be off and the ground work should have had a few more weeks of work and setup before being released. I think this was a case of the developers being overly excited, but missing small details on release (hence the wrong versions, incorrect config files for different models). What I do see is that the developer is actively listening and is working on correcting these. From what I've played, my biggest issue is in the controls. Tney seem a little too floaty for a fast past action game. For a game like this, they really need to be precise and as accurate as possible. Maybe if the control options would work then that would solve the problem. As it is, I find myself trying to use slide to look and end up hitting the fire button since it's so high on the screen (ipod Touch 4G). Framerate wise, it's something I can live with. It's inconsistent and paired with the floaty controls, makes aiming and moving pretty hard to do. I think this is just the nature of Unreal Engine games. For me, there are times that they are smooth as silk, but then other times they seem to studder or drop in frames. I'm hoping that this evolves to something better. I think if we could prioritize our issues, maybe the developer can take that and work to rectify the issues. For me, the first would be controls followed by crashes and then game features.
$5 for a beta?!?!?! I feel like I just paid $5 for an untested beta version. Not cool, man. Not cool at all. Note to the devs of this game: you're supposed to beta test the game PRIOR to release. You're also supposed to let people know when it's a BETA version - as this game in its current form obviously is. Now, thanks to you I have to go out and punch an old lady in the face.
I know what hes saying. Its good he changed his score and telling people the silly mistake he made, just anyone who gives a game 1/5 stars instantly on the App Store needs to take a deep breath and wait and be patient. Its good he changed his, many people dont. People seem to instantly act OTT about games, when in a matter of day(s) any issues are normally fixed. I hope most of us here are adults and will wait for a patch/update. I'm not missing the point at all, i'm saying giving that 1/5 score instantly was stupid. Tapper didnt work for me a week after buying it, i didnt go into a 'rage' and give it 1/5 stars. I waited for the update and everything was fine. Same i think with Warm Gun. As Simon.P said, Emotional Robots are aware of these issues, theyre keeping their customers informed so i'll be patient. I bet you anything that the next Emotional Robots release will run a bit smoother to say the least ! MicroByte - Agree with you, the controls need a bit of tweaking. If in a fortnight the game is still unplayable then i'll give a 1/5 star rating and warn others, for now its not that bad. Like i said earlier i expected to get this game Thursday morning UK time anyway, so an update in a few days isnt that bad. If the devs werent active in this thread and remained silent then i would probably give the game a poor score but lets just wait
The beta test for this thing must have been ridiculously brief. Every time I try to play online I get a 'crash' pop-up. Even blatantly obvious things like the field entries missing on the register screen are included. Just an unacceptable mess. I'm sorry, but they ought to have thought twice before releasing something this shoddy and half finished. Really pissed about it. Normally I always wait for reviews, but having followed this game's progress for so long and with great anticipation, I snapped it up the moment it hit the store. More fool me.
They were being generous. And the 4/10 doesn't seem reflective of the actual review content which is pretty much all negative. As it stands, this is the biggest disappointment for a heavily-hyped iOS game this year in my book. In 4 years of iOS gaming this is the first time I've felt deceived enough to consider asking for a refund.
Agreed. Although for my personal hype nothing beats the disappointment that was High Flyer Death Defyer.
As critical as I am about this game, that review is horrible. No objectivity, and it's like he has an agenda. No mention of anything positive about the game. It's more of a slam than a review. Again, this game has a great premise. The theme is fresh, the graphics are good, and it's fun (when it works). It just needs upgraded performance, bug fixes, and ai improvement. I don't think the game should have shipped out the way it was, but what's done is done. It really needs ranking, GC, and score tracking as well. The thing that sucks IMO is that a bad start to a game could keep people from keeping up with the updates, and bad reviews could do the same. I'd hate to be stuck with a low player base for a good game that is being updated regularly.
Controls are BAD I just can't understand these controls. Three options that essentially do not change much in the control scheme. I would like to see the basic dual stick here...with the right hand side working better to control the gun/look movement.
I disagree, I think that was an honest review. This game is a buggy mess, from top to bottom. YOU CAN'T EVEN CREATE A &%#@ ACCOUNT WITHOUT CRASHING!! The fundamental and most essential part of the game in literally unusable. How can you defend that? "Here you go people, an online shooter! Want to sign up so you can play it? CAN'T!" Really? Sorry dude this game is a waste of 5 bucks in it's current state.
1. Stability issues crashing, servers, etc 2. Framerate very poor on iPad 2 3. Controls as well as fixing existing options/issues, a proper gyro control option would be nice! 4. Content Better offline features and faaaaarrr better AI enemies 5. Online 4 players online doesn't come close. Gameloft FPS titles have 10 Thats my Warm Gun wishlist!
This games needs more than iphone4. It's to heavvy, max 15fps. At the moment i think only Iphone 4S can handle it! Good graphics anyway!
Considering how well the review reflects most of the comments on this thread and on the app's review page, I'd say he's as objective as anyone else. What positive points are there to point out on an unplayable game? He said the graphics look nice. That's about the only plus I could find too. Personally I think the reviewer is doing a service by warding people away from this mess so they can spend their hard-earned cash on finished products that actually work. If the game had been released under the auspices of being a 'work-in-progress', fine. It wasn't, so people expected and deserved a complete working product. I don't mean to beat my point home, but when a developer is saying that we hope in an update to improve the game from unplayable to decent or good, I think everyone has a right to feel swindled.
I take it, it's a good thing that I have no money left to get this game atm? hahaahah. That's a shame... looks really good too.
Well, the new mentality for iOS games is, get it out ASAP and then work out bugs later. I think I read that in an article where that's what one of the professors taught their students. And not singling out this game, but it's prevalent in quite a few other iOS games. I hope that future patches get this game working as intended. And beta test stuff! Preferably for free.
Fully agree. In fact, this is the reason I didn't impulsively buy Warm Gun. I guess I was right from your comments. Thanks.
When will I learn not to buy FPS from unknown developers on the iPhone?! This thing is a dog! Bad frame rate, controls from another planet and just an overall unfinished look/feel to everything. Even some of the maps while graphically look nice, just seem barren, like a crappy fan-made CS map. Ah well.... we always have MC3!
