A patch including fixes to the server browser, bot population in multiplayer, and the performance issues on iPhone 4/iPad will be uploaded for review shortly. Frame rate and overal responsiveness of the controls has improved considerably. Certain levels still need a bit of optimization, but everyone should see a performance improvement. I personally feel that the current development build pushes the framerate from unacceptable to decent or even good on iphone 4 and ipad 1. I'm also shortening the delay/window for double tap+drag firing to help alleviate accidental firing. The patch will be available as soon as apple approves it and our dedicated servers are ready. -Dusten
I jumped the gun at a possible bot gameplay like quake game ad regret it horribly. Framerate suddenly drops and lags, dumb Ai that gets stuck at corners, jerky controls, and under settings although u have an option to chane control, it doesn't stick. It goes back to default. If I could I'd ask my money back and go buy FIFA 12
A simple question: if by your own admission, the frame rate in the currently released version is "unacceptable," why was it released?
I find it hard to believe the game was even tested on anything other than ipad 2 before release with these glaringly obvious framerate issues
Developers just can't win, can they? Playing WG and CoB for a good few hours now (it's actually 2:19 AM and I've been playing around with them since 9 PM) I can say that it's somewhat successful. Somewhat because I can see both sides of the coin. On the one hand... E.R. tried to go outside of the box and create something that's never really been done before. When you go on untrodden ground there's going to things you never could have foreseen and it's possible that this was a little too ambitious for an Indie (and I think this should be kept in mind, this isn't multi-million dollar E.A. here) developer on a relatively new UDK. It's not perfect. There's little polish things that seem so weird. For instance, how did the text glitch get through QA for the 3GS? Why does the control preferences not save properly? I'm wondering just how much at fault the Beta testers are in this. I'm not sure how effective indie/iOS beta testing is in general. I think a lot of it is people just wanting to play the game early/want the game for free. Or perhaps it was just a matter of not having the resources to fix everything and they needed to start turning a profit to pay for the resources to continue with updates (not to mention co-developing the PC version of WG). The more I play, the more I wonder if it really can be fixed with updates. Maybe Warm Gun is just too big of a bite taken off by E.R. Ultimately, however, I do have fun playing it. And that is the point of gaming in the end. Yes, it is rather frustrating with seemingly random crashes, unresponsive controls at times (especially when you turn a corner to find an enemy and you jam the fire button only to have nothing happen) and settings not saving properly. But when things work, the whole thing is just fun. So I don't feel bad about shelling out the 5$ to E.R. Because underneath the rough state of the game, there's a lot there that shows there was a lot of work put into the game. They're trying to push iOS gaming in a different direction and they nearly got it right. If they actually do continue tweaking and updating the game, it can only get better from here... And I, for one, look forward to it.
Hmmmm this is turning into a farce. First the 'beta' version was submitted to Apple ? Now theres these other problems. I've got an ipod touch 4, played for a bit in the offline mode and it wasnt 'too bad' but the controls (despite 3 options) seem bad. Just want a normal fire button, tapping fire sometimes and nothing works for a second or two and then it fires. I'll wait for the update before putting a 1 star rating on the App Store but someone seriously needs a ticking off for releasing this game in this state. Do companies not hire beta testers or something ? Agree with Gabrien above, if they admit the frame rate was unacceptable then why release it ? But hopefully in a week or two my $5 wont be wasted on this as i 'hope' updates will cure most of the problems. But do they use the worst beta testers ever ? As the post above says maybe its just kids wanting to play the game (than beta test it properly) I bought it, installed it, everytime i touched the icon it would crash and go back to my homepage. Did a reset, pressed the icon again, same thing, reset back to the homepage. Second time worked but still not great Personally think some companies need to get some serious beta testers in, not some kids wanting a free game (sorry for the harsh words)
The simple and honest truth is that in the short time I've been involved with WarmGun development, I only had access to a 3GS part time. Others on the team had various devices, ranging from 4g to ipad2. In our rapid improvements and tweaks just prior to launch, a few settings were messed up in the config files, and that drastically impacted the performance on all devices--especially ipad 1 and iphone 4. It was a simple, but ultimately regrettable mistake that will be fixed in a patch shortly. -Dusten
i dont like the double tap firing especially when you are in a single stick control please have an option to disable or enable that feature...
Thanks for letting us know. Sure these issues happen a fair bit, i remember when Tapper was released and didnt seem to work on Ipod Touch 4's until a patch arrived a while later. Looking forward to the patch and properly getting into this as the game does look stunning
Well said. As a consumer I feel pretty damn annoyed about it. It's not my responsibility to figure out who did what and why, all I know is I've just paid $4.99 for a product that shipped as 'unacceptable' and that's hugely disappointing.
Get your point, you expect the product to work. Sure if you contacted them they would refund you. But i'm holding out a few days for an update and see what happens then. Frustrating but in my mind the game came out earlier than expected anyway, wasnt expecting to get this till thursday a.m so if theres an update out by then i'm no worse off really
btw, give them chance.. I gave them 1 star because I was disappointed as player, but I changed mind now. I feel really stupid about it.. Its not so easy to create game for mobiles and because few games (done in very clever way), you should not think that you have xbox in your pocket.. Dont forget that even big 50+ M USD projects on consoles are released with major bugs. And we have 200 times lower budget, 5 times shorter development cycle and probably 10 times smaller team.. You know, its not easy Anyway, its MP and all things can be polished, fixed, tweaked, etc. Please dont demotivate people who trying to give you something special.. Its the worst thing you can do for us.. Best and excuse my English
Says the person who originally gave them a 1 star rating ? Plus if you work for Mad Finger Games you should surely appreciate there there will 'sometimes' be issues, so i'm stunned someone like yourself gave them initially a poor rating. You must know what problems can occur. Some 14 year old kid who spent $6 i can see why hes upset and gives them a 1 star rating, but a fellow iOS developer ? Think thats very poor, its like youre trying to knock down a rival
Lol.. I said, that I changed mind and overreacted.. At least Im honest and told you true. You should read more then one sentence.. And start to support them not be so picky..
I'm glad I held out on a low star rating since the patch is already submitted so fast. I hope my money hasn't gone to waste and the patch makes the game playable on my iPhone 4 again
Jesus calm down ppl or ur threads will end up off topic and get deleted-all i wamna know is why no ranking system, kill counts etc? Makes it a bit pointless playing it??
