The controls is so crappy and my iphone 3gs cant handle the graphics , it was slow as hell , what a letdown , the gameplay graphics is so different from the trailers. The blacksmith seems to have infinite ammo because i was shooting nonstop for 2mins lol
I like the bot mode, but it needs a kill count. I can't tellchow much I'm winning by. good thing is, the AI got stuck in the wall twice throughout the whole game, and I got the cheap kill.
Is anyone getting "Unknown Error" when trying to create a Gamespy account and then getting a crash report when clicking "Exit" from that screen? Getting very frustrated.
So I'm on an iPod Touch 3G, and I downloaded the game and gave it a shot. As far as I can tell, the main issues are: 1. Terrible startup time. After the "Now loading" screen, the screen goes black for almost a minute, then restarts from the UDK intro before finally loading up the main menu. 2. Lack of polish. This includes text being formatted badly and not fitting the page, unfitting font (especially the damage indicators), lack of stat tracking, and a cluttered options menu. 3. Graphical lag. My device should be equivalent to the iPhone 3GS, but the framerate is still pretty bad (depending on the map). It's playable, but probably the laggiest game I've played on the App Store. So the graphics could be toned down a bit for third generation devices too. 4. Controls. The main issue here is that they don't seem to save. If the controls were set to single-stick whith less sensitivity on the fire button as default, they wouldn't be so bad. Part of the reason they feel so weird is because of the framerate issues. Also, reloading and switching weapons feels a bit awkward. I would try to emulate Modern Combat 2's controls. I believe that's everything. Fix these issues and you will have yourselves a fantastic game. Warm Gun is a mere 4 steps from becoming a smash hit. Do not be discouraged by the initial criticisms; think instead of all the praise that lies ahead. Never give up, and I wish you good luck.
No, I'm pretty sure that's not it. Edit: Oh! Turns out I had already made a Gamespy account with both of my emails in the past. Was able to guess my password right for one of them, and luckily, the username is backtothis. Thanks.
Also, I've just started to notice that on my 3GS, in WG, all the words don't align properly with the menus. My name in the pregame lobby, in the option menus.. In the upper right during game play where it says the gunner in the lead. Really off putting. Not the worst thing in the world, but shows a lack of polish. Hope this kind of thing gets fixed in an update ASAP.
I'm thinking the auto-fire people are getting is a feature: If you double-tap on the screen while aiming, it will auto-fire.
It's a feature, alright. A bad one . You may very well be right, but it's still much too easy to get it started by accident.
yup me 2 on my 3gs words aren't complete as if the game not compatiable with iphone screen but with ipad i hope and update be out soon fixing the lagg...memory and screen words issue on 3gs
To be honest, i have played with much more worse FPS controls on my Iphone4. COB os good. But after playing with Shadowgun i have realized, that 3rd person (over the shoulder) controls works BEST on this device. It's excellent, but for FPS's the field of view and the 1st person angle makes the whole control strange. The best thing on earth would be, if Apple or a 3rd party vendor would create an x360 like controller pod with a built-in battery and dual analogue sticks which we can insert the iDevice into. deviated from the topic a here, sry about that. So, the game needs some more polishing, also the devs should try to add a switch option to TPS mode
Yep, you're right about that, and I'm very unhappy with it myself. Warm Gun will be going through a major UI overhaul that involves some modifications at the UE3/C++ level. Once we've patched the major issues like inadequate performance on iPhone 4 and iPad 1 with our first update, I will be returning to this. In the future, all text fields will act more like the scoreboard, which is scaled properly at the c++ level. -Dusten
Just played two full games online. Was able to get top gunner on both. Tried out the guy with the shotgun and the gun with the assault sniper rifle thing. There's nothing too messed up with the game. What needs crazy fixing immediately is the framerate. On one map, the game played terribly. It was so jumpy. It was honestly better to just stand somewhere and shoot than to run around. However, on the other map, the framerate was significantly better. The controls aren't actually too bad if you just use swipe controls + tap to shoot. Not sure why you'd use the sticks ever. Holding down the screen after tapping indeed triggers auto-shoot. The menus need some addressing. If you click something, and then click back very quickly, you'll crash the game, always. It's pretty easy to find a game, but I'm pretty sure lots of lobby improvements can be made..also, the visuals for the game actually aren't that impressive. They're not bad though. Other changes that need to be addressed: -bullet count? -kill counter in game? I'm not even sure how many kills I need to win the game, lol.. -GC: total kills, total deaths, etc. + ability to play with friends -controls need to stop defaulting But yeah, the performance on 4th gen. devices really needs to be addressed. After fixing that and polishing the game up, this can be a great game. Going to try multiplayer with the girlfriend soon. Hope that goes well. Also, will be able to try the game on the iPad 2 this weekend. Hoping for significant boosts in performance on it.
This is indeed a feature, and a poorly explained/balanced one from the sound of it. After the UI overhaul, we will be splitting up the options menu into two screens (for easier use, and more settings). The new options may include a double-click delay/window for double tap+drag firing, and the ability to disable it entirely. -Dusten
Re As far as poor frame rates go, this is due to poorly optimized maps, nothing more nothing less. Even from just playing CoB on my iPad 1, the level design, amount of draw calls on screen at once, and even instances of overuse of alpha textures is way to much for older gen devices. As a unreal iOS developer, I can confirm this. With that said, it is truly a 'nightmare' optimizing levels to run on anything other than a ipad2. You guys have no idea. Props to the developers for trying, but I almost feel the resources that went into the iOS version would have been better spent on continuing development of the pc version. Best of luck ER!
