That's the point of a cross-platform engine, dumaz. It's not that they're "porting" this game to the iOS; it's that using U3 allows them to develop the game across several platform at the same time -- including iOS. It makes little sense for an indie developer to make an iOS exclusive game with U3, especially a multiplayer-only one, since it's so straightforward to expand the user-base across multiple platforms. Obviously Unity can also be used in the same way, except that it lacks the credibility on PC and consoles that U3 has. That increased installed base could very well make the additional royalties worth it to an indie developer. Again, this is not the exception. It's one way to make high-end development viable on the iOS platform.
Too bad I'm not an iOS developer, though I would really like to be one but now I'm still a little confused. So Epic games is stating that to make the game is free, but they don't mention that you have to pay royalties if you market and sell your game. Or do you not have to pay for that anymore either?
Porting Warm Gun to the iOS has been greatly streamlined by the UDK, but it is still very much considered a port. I won't get into technical details, but we've been working a TON of hours migrating the game and making it playable on iDevices - similar to what a console port would take. In some aspects its harder than a console port due to hardware limitations. The UDK is a new way for indies and modders to make commercial use of one of the best engines available. We are taking full advantage of it.
Good for you!! Hopefully this is going to be a great release. How long are we going to have to wait for this?
Didn't mean to minimize the effort to get this into iOS. My point is that a cross-platform engine makes it possible to develop with multiple platforms in mind from the get-go.
The iOS version already supports almost all the features of the full version, but many of them can't be used due to the technical limitations of the devices used (CPU + GPU are not enough). If the Apple A5 dual core Cortex-A9 CPU + dual SGX543 GPU evidence/rumors comes true, then you will be able to do some crazy stuff with UDK for iPhone. Off Topic @ AlienMario's sig: Crysis is not dull. I'm not sure about the original, but Crysis: Warhead had one of the most intense, action packed, and fun campaigns I have ever played. If anything was dull it was the multiplayer. And all at the same time it was/still is the best hardware tester as well. It deserved all the hype.
Then I would shit my pants and then again shit my pants, if that comes true!!! Then we could run intence graphical games and in one hand size device!!!
Then I would cry, because I have a 4th gen iPod and will not upgrade until probably 6th or 7th generation.
I would be really happy. Because I have a 3rd generation and I want an upgrade like this. Buying a 4th gen won't make any difference performance wise.
Yea me too, because I have a 3rd gen iPod touch so I'll upgrade to 5th gen iPod touch. Since all the stuff that's on iPhone is on iPod touch I'll get the 5th gen.
I was gonna get a 4th gen but luckily a fews day ago i haerd the rumor Could be months til it comes out Oh well it will be worth it
