After almost six months of development, Emotional Robots Inc. is happy to debut the first gameplay footage of Warm Gun on iOS! ERI has come a long way over the past few months, and bringing the PC game to mobile has been a real challenge. Over 9000 assets have been converted to mobile along with an entirely new set of animations; all capped off by several major overhauls in code. Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel Being on the cutting edge of technology is incredibly exciting but also a little scary. We're working in uncharted territory, which is why we've held off on giving a specific release date. We'd rather focus on making everything work the way it should than setting a date and cutting corners to meet that date. However, we are still set to release this summer. This footage was taken with the iPad 2 and hasn't been altered. Warm Gun will be available for several iOS devices, including the iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3 and iPod Touch 4. Warm Gun will also be released on Android devices after the iOS version launches. This literally looks like the most exciting iOS release for me yet (possibly only rivaled by the upcoming Starbase Orion). The trailer does a great job of revving up the hype I noticed that the Scout and the Outlaw are not in the game at launch. Will they make it, eventually (as patch content/IAP)? They were the two character I was looking forward to playing the most, hence my curiosity
outlaw and scout animations couldn't be finished in time for this release. Some day though im sure. It does add more strain on memory budgets because character textures and all their weapons are always loaded into memory but I think its doable.
Thanks for the compliment! The Scout and Outlaw won't be joining us for initial release, but will certainly be included in future content (along with new weapons, maps, etc.) Edit: you guys post fast! Dennis wins this one (yes we have a running tally).
Yeah ARTA how did u implement the video in the post like that you also did that with the desert zombie video I put up yesterday

Man, does this game look awesome. Unique and refreshing. Out of the new upcoming FPS games including March of heroes, and the TPS desert zombies. This game looks the best. Cannot wait to purchase this on the app store You can tell the effort they have put into everything in this game.
You just had to go and satisfy ALL of my desires, didn't you? What shall I now pine for? Great news! I'm a fan of light, stealthy, mobile units, units that rely more on careful skill and tactics than brute force and overpowering might (admittedly skills in themselves), and both the Scout and the Outlaw seemed to fit that bill to a greater and lesser extent, respectively. I'll be playing this like there is no tomorrow, yesterday and possibly present. Deadlock has now got a potent challenger in the online shooter arena. In your honest developer opinion (taking into account your desire to swell your coffers ), will I be wanting the desktop version as well, or are the iOS/Windows versions so very similar (the different control methods notwithstanding) that I might as well be playing either one (assuming I have particular preferences in either mouse-keyboard or touch screen controls)?
This is such a loaded question! We wanted to achieve streamlined gameplay between mobile and PC versions of the game, but there are some key perks that set both apart from each other. If you've had fun playing the mobile version, you'll find familiarity with Warm Gun (PC). However, I guarantee that your experience won't be that of "Oh I've played this already". We'll also be continually developing for both platforms like I described in my previous post, and we might choose to do platform specific perks at some point (or maybe not, we don't know yet).
Oh, I know. That's why I took extra pleasure in asking it That sounds like an excellent design philosophy when working with two similar but platform-divergent products. In many ways, I actually prefer streamlining between iOS and Windows products. It brings us one step closer to the day when platform no longer matters, other than to possibly determine screen real estate (a concept hopefully made history as well, as soon as we being making a habit of connecting our iDevices to large screens/projecting the screen via a built-in projector), and to cross-platform play as a general rule rather than an exclusive bonus. Having made that statement, I can hardly refrain from purchasing both version! If nothing else, I will have a headstart over my iOS-pals in using the Scout and Outlaw, once they mosey on into iOS territory
We do have pre-orders open on our website! We have a normal edition ($19.99) and a special edition ($24.99). Pre-orders will get first (and maybe only) access to the beta, as well as the full soundtrack composed by our very own David Mason. Pre-orders will also get access to the internal beta forums, which provides unfiltered access to the development of Warm Gun. The soundtrack sells separately on amazon, iTunes, and a few other popular places as well if you just want to listen. The special edition is limited and will come with other perks not found anywhere else (aka special in-game content)! /shameless plug
Well, the soundtrack really IS excellent... Consider me shamelessly, er, well... plugged In the spirit of shamelessness and loaded questions: do you think the Special Edition might still be available next week? (Big expenses coming up, and I'd prefer to have another paycheck in my hands before buying a game, even one as generously priced as Warm Gun.)
I think you'll be fine for next week. In the exceptionally awesome scenario that we run out of special editions I'll reserve you one.
Let's hope for that awesome scenario, then! And thanks! If you are planning to become a very popular iOS developer group with a reputation for helpfulness and a communicative mindset, you are well on yer way already A quickie: will the iOS version have bots to practice against, like the desktop version? Certainly no dealbreaker if it does not, but it is generally a nice addition to a competitive multiplayer game, and even more so for a mobile game, where the connection can be spotty at times (One nice asset I've been missing in multiplayer games for iOS, but also for the PC as of late, is the ability to spawn bots in multiplayer matches, and thus fight co-operatively agains the AIs, a nice break from the otherwise much more exciting player versus player action. Go back 15 years in time, and you'd find me and my pals often teaming up against computer-controlled opponents in games such as Marathon and Quake. If that rainy day where there is nothing else left to code comes, perhaps this suggestion might pop up in your mind )
