    kurtalb1:

I started the iOS fray with an iPod 2g second-hand, because I'm kind of cost-conscious. This was when the iPhone 4 was already available.

I enjoyed playing games in the small screen a lot, but in the end, with my life style, which is mostly job and then home in the evenings, I don't do much gaming on the go. As such, most of my gaming ends up being at home on my iPad - or, of course, when I go on holidays and such. But I rarely use my mobile for gaming just because I don't have much time there.

When I do, I might just play a small quick game, but never an longer-term, engrossing game - even though I tried to trick myself into that several times, with no success.

As such, it all depends on what your life is, and what your habits are. I love my iPad. It's great for reading and for playing more board-like games. If you're into twitch shooters, they might play better control-wise on a mobile. And, of course, on a console - which in my case have had very little use in the past year or so, since I end up playing mostly on my iPad. Also because the battery works wonders, while the mobile battery ends up draining quite quickly for me, which is always a deterrent.

If you play lots on the go, then an iPhone might be better suited for you. If not, I wouldn't have any questions about getting an iPad, function-wise. Of course, it's also quite expensive, but that's not my call to make.

Hope this helps making the decision. Oh, and get a retina one. It makes a world of difference.

    Cheers.

[EDIT] As it seems DaviddesJ also replied in the meantime, my personal suggestion being a retina one, cannot obviously be a mini. I have never had a mini, so I can't really compare - just saying that my suggestion stands for a large screen one. In fact, if the assets are reused between iPad and iPad mini, I'd say that the font on the mini can get quite small, in principle. Once again, no basis of experience to confirm that, but just saying that that would be something I would be concerned about, without knowing if it's an actual problem. That being said, a mini is very likely an excellent option as well.

Thanks to DaviddesJ and pjft for their insight. I do very little gaming-on-the-go and LOTS of gaming at home, so the bigger screen is becoming more and more of a necessity. I'll consider the mini, but I'm thinking that if I take the leap, I would go for the newest version of the ipad. Cost isn't too much of a problem (although definitely a luxury for me), but I certainly am not against saving some money if the mini fits my needs. Thanks again to both of you for such quick replies.

With something like Warhammer Quest (since we're in the forum for that game) you're going to be tapping all over the screen, not using thumb controls or the like. In that case, you're probably going to want the device resting on your lap or on a table or some sort of stand, in which case the weight is less of an issue. If you play twin-stick shooters, or games like that, then the weight difference between the iPad mini and the full iPad is a *big* issue. It's not good for your wrists to hold the latter for long periods. Also, you can play the tap-all-over games like WHQ by holding the iPad mini in one hand and tapping with the other hand, which really isn't a viable option with the full iPad.

I primarily play turn-based games, and I do like the idea of being able to hold the device in one hand, so I'll look into the mini a bit more seriously. It's not a purchase I'm making immediately, but probably by the end of May.

So now that a few lucky souls have played the 2nd beta, anyone have any guesses as to whether or not we will really see a release this month?

Hopefully we will see it sometime in May. The dev has stated several times it should be out in May but no firm date yet. Seeing as this was the last round of the beta it's gotta be super close to being ready, they wouldn't have brought in a lot more testers if it wasn't very polished. That bug exporting log would have been undo able lol. On a side note after reading comments I am really hoping the "trolls layer" becomes a real thing at some point, frickin hilarious!

The 'trolls layer' would definitely add a new level to the game...I'm just hoping like crazy to see this game soon, partly for my sanity, and party so I don't have to leave for a month of field training next month without it...I would be a sad trolls layer!

I always hated the idea of the iPad, seemed like a callous grab for money and I couldn't justify in my mind why I would need something between a laptop and my phone.

then I got an iPad 4 for my birthday a month ago.

    It's ing awesome.

Oh poster above is right though, does get a bit heavy, but that big ass retina screen is oh so pretty. I cannot wait to get this game on it.

If you are not in a hurry, wait for iPad 5 in the second half of 2013. Even if you do get the current iPad 4 when the iPad 5 is out, it will be at a discount.

Rumours are that supply maven Tim Cook botched up and retina iPad Mini will only appear in 2014. So if that is something to consider if you wanted a Mini.

As an iPad 2 owner, I can tell you that it is heavy enough to be felt when gaming. Given a choice, I would go for the iPad Mini's weight.

But the iPad will always have the fastest CPU and largest amount of RAM.

Also, since the iPad Mini's CPU and RAM specs are based on my iPad 2's innards, and the iPad 1 is increasingly not supported by games, so iPad 2 will logically be the next to begin losing compatibility with new games...

Better wait for the 2014 retina iPad Mini, which would definitely faster CPU and more RAM to deal with retina graphics requirement, or get an iPad 4 if you cannot wait.

Waiting for the iPad 5 to come out and then picking up a discounted iPad 4 isn't a bad idea at all. The only problem with that is my lack of patience, haha. I would love to have the iPad when Warhammer Quest comes out, but I suppose I could play it on my phone for awhile. Decisions, decisions! Thanks again to all who have given their advice. It's much appreciated!

    :p

For your information, on Facebook Rodeo are gathering questions from fans that will be answered next week in VIDEO FOOTAGE form.
They even stated it won't be long...soon you will play too (check their Facebook page...I think they said before end of May).

Keep strong...it will be worthy, trust me.

I've heard these words before when Warhammer Age of Reckoning was in beta. Those that got in to beta test kept saying how awesome the game was. When it was actually released, the game was such a dissapointment for many. I felt it was the biggest let down for a Gamesworkshop IP.

The screenshots and video from Warhammer Quest only shows a reskin of Hunters. Heres hoping it is not Hunters set in the world of Warhammer because Hunters was pretty shallow. Nice graphics but peel that away and you get nothing. No story. No character development. Every character looked the same, played the same, felt the same. Random maps didn't even help.

Just my opinion though! Hopefully it is as good as you say.

Personally I know nothing about Age of Reckoning.
A rapid search on Internet told me it's a MMPORG loosely based on the Warhammer World and...that's it. Seemed to me just another 'me too' MMPORG set in a relatively known world (maybe I'm wrong).
Others failed there too (Star Wars come to mind).

Rodeo Games Warhammer Quest is a digital adaptation of the Warhammer Quest original boardgame...so if you are familiar with that you know what you will be getting; if not, I suggest a search, just to focus expectations.

Said that I understand what you are saying, and it's surely possibile that many doesn't share my excitement when the game is out or even face utter disappointement, but personally I feel many will be pleased.
As I already said...if you loved the original boardgame, or you loved Hunters 2, you will be pleased.
I know I'm having a ton of fun.

Said that, and going OT a bit, I would like to say that while Hunters 1 bored me after some days (I too found it souless, even if well done), I must confess that, as I already said, I LOVED Hunters 2.
The (very brief) story based campaign made me attached to my team, and soon as I upgraded them they became all important and meaningful to me.
I can certainly say, after having put more than 100 hours in that game, that a sniper played VERY DIFFERENTLY to an Assault Rifle commando, expecially when fully upgraded.
I loved the immediacy of the game...I could play for 30 minutes, complete a contract, and feel a sense of accomplishment, even after I maxed out my party and build my weapons; plus I really like the 'positional tactical' considerations, and the cover mechanics.
Despite last year I played many great games, Hunters 2 was my to go game even after months.
Before knowing Rodeo was working on Warhammer Quest, the thing I wanted most for Hunters 2 were a new much more meaty campaign, new tilesets, new contracts.

Anyway...I'm saying all this just to give a bit of background; be sure to read some reviews when the game will be out and make your own opinion!!!
