Well I played the dawn of war game and the first couple of expansions but that was jeez like 8years ago or something. Haven't played pc games since then.
Sorry if already asked, but can the view be altered from overhead to more isometric? Hunters annoyed me a little by insisting on an overhead view..
As well you may, I was just asking if we're able to switch in-game between the two views. I'd imagine not but thought it worth asking..
Oh, I thought you wanted the designers to alter the game design so that everyone would get the isometric view rather than everyone getting the overhead view. It's a lot easier to support a single view than multiple views. Especially the overhead view (they might not even create any data to render the characters from other perspectives). It's also easier to build an interface based on a single view. But it's certainly something you could ask for.
Judging by the screen shots and the fact they made both hunters 1&2 I'm going with this will be overhead, I like the overhead view in the hunters games anyway.
Yeah, sorry, I didn't make that very clear in my earlier post. It would admittedly be quite a drama to make this in more than one perspective as they'd have to make all the assets 3D which is a huge undertaking but it would be nice to be able to scroll around the playing area in 3D, like you can XCOM.
Considering they are using an evolution of the Hunters engine, no. Personally I would take the overhead view anyway. One of the big difference is that they switched to 3D models for characters, to allow for more differentiation and visible loot. This had me somewhat worried (I love Hunters 2 sprites) but those screenshots put all my worries to the rest. I see many different goblins already and cool shadows (I guess they are even realtime for the characters).
Go play Dawn of War II Retribution and the ones before. Lots of campaign stuff for the different races/factions and they use the same engine as CoH i think, its great fun. I have the collectors edition :3
FYI This afternoon Pocket Tactics will have a huge feature about the game, including hands on preview and Rodeo Games interview.
At last http://pockettactics.com/2013/03/15/random-encounter-a-hands-on-preview-of-warhammer-quest/ MIND BLOWN, better than my wildest expectations. Not only IMHO a great article and a cool story, but the actual game details (at last) really hyped me to the max. Realtime explorations, 'next room' feature, turn based combat, unique characters, overarching campaign, settlements, DLCs.....
Seriously looking very cool, all those features and extra iap dlc campaigns, looks like it should have some lasting appeal too. Hopefully it does well for them so that we can see lots of extra content.
I don't really understand the "real time movement, but with a penalty for moving too slowly" aspect. Doesn't sound like my first choice.
As far as I can understand, you explore the dungeon in real time, switching to turn based as soon as you have an encounter. During the real time phase, there is a chance every X seconds (don't know, I'm guessing) of being ambushed....so you are naturally forced not to waste too much time, risking being ambushed by enemies; it adds to the sense of danger of being in a dungeon. Seems to capture perfectly some aspects of the original board game.
