Ringerill Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2012 315 170 43 #9 Ringerill, Sep 3, 2020 Hi fellow Toucharcadians! I follow you all on this one: it's a terrible game and doesn't deserve to be in the "Warhammer Quest" series at all... I've been part of the final beta testing and oh god was I disappointed! This simply has nothing to do with the previous titles. The first one will always have a special place on my phone and in my heart! The second one is not so bad but definitely less appealing than the first. This abomination however... When I say that this game has nothing to do with the "Quest" series is true on many levels: there is no map where you can roam from town to town, no quests to be found, no random encounters. There are no merchants, no tavern to recruit companions, no consumables, not even many skills (or maybe there are but they were blocked in the beta?). I doubt it because we received an email saying that the version could be considered as final but they simply wanted to have our opinion about the gameplay. They even forbid us to share any images or thoughts about the game to the public. The way this game plays is: you have 2 characters at start (Knight and Archer). You do the tutorial and discover that the only way you can get characters is through a gacha mechanic -_- The only "quests" are a list of "maps" with goals like "Kill all enemies", "Get to the Exit" or "Kill 5 enemies and get to the Exit". When you click on a quest, there is just a small paragraph of some generic story and that's all the story you will have. At the end of each "quest" you'll get to open a chest with some really poor loot inside that can contain gold, XP, boons or weapons. But the amount is ridiculous when ou compare it to the prices on the market (1600 Gold for a rare weapon and you get maybe 20-30 gold per map). That's it, rince and repeat. Maps almost all look alike, enemies are always the same, equipments don't change your appearance, be it rare, epic or common. You don't even progress through a modular maps: it's one single map, totally visible to you and you can complete it in 3 minutes tops if you really wanted to mess around and try to get a perfect fight. The required quantity of Gems to summon a new character is immense and the fact that you need to actually loot XP in chests and use it to level up is a terrible idea. You get some daily quests to help you because the story progression gets harder really fast but it will barely help you. The only way the difficulty is scaled is through some kind of awkward formula not even tied to levels. I have beaten a quest marked as Normal and massacred a tough guy level 8 and then a Hard quest with the same enemy at level 6 but he basically one-shot my tank every time... Oh and have I mentioned the unfair loot in the chests? You would expect that a common chest gives you common ressources (with a small chance of a rare), a rare chest would have a chance to drop a rare item (with a small chance of an epic) and an epic chest would at least give a rare item and have a chance to contain Epic items. I have managed to open 4 Epic chests and the amount of gold and XP wasn't really that high compared to other chests but the disappointment came from the fact that I found 2 common weapons of level 2-3, 1 rare weapon of level 4 (my characters were level 6-7 when I opened it) and one boon that gave 2% defence. I'm ashamed that this game has the "Quest" in the title since it has nothing to do with it. It's a crapy F2P game with gachas, horribles IAPs, poor gameplay and boring pace. It will not require much of your brain to play while previous titles required you to strategise about the equipments, skills, placement, consumables, etc. You can always try it on your own since it's free but if you do, leave your review on the app store if you are as disappointed as I am... I admit that I may have "trashed" the game with my review here but that's the way I felt when I tried it The first two Warhammer Quests were really cool. I guess we were all expecting here something along the same line, or at least the same genre of adventure and gameplay. Maybe the decision went just as ste86uk said: go the way other developers are making money via F2P games. It released as a freemium app and not many people like the path mobile gaming is taking. It's kinda sad to see Warhammer Quest also following this trend, that's all. That's mainly why people over here are disappointed because we all know where this is going when a game is free to download and the only IAPs are gold and other currency. That always means mindless grinding, unfair randomness, etc. From trying it out, that's all I could feel... Talbs likes this. This a ftp Warhammer Game with a misleading title. Warhammer Quest (much like Hero Quest) has always been about going tile to tile in a dungeon crawl. Warhammer Quest 1 was one of the best mobile recreations of the Quest experience. Although it had IAP, it was upfront about about exactly what you were paying for. I fell like I could say the about WQ2, but prettier. This is a gacha game, maybe it’ll end up being decent if that’s what you’re into, but it’s not a proper follow up and does no justice to the Warhammer Quest legacy. RodeoBenjamin Well-Known Member Feb 11, 2011 158 8 18 Male Creative Director at Perchang Games Guildford https://linktr.ee/Perchang #16 RodeoBenjamin, Sep 3, 2020 @Ringerill, really not my aim to make you feel uncomfortable or bad or anything like that. Your opinion is as valuable as anyone else's. Especially if you didn't enjoy what you played of the game. It is a HUGE leap away from anything we've made before. The Silver Tower board game is fairly different to the other Warhammer Quest too, with no towns or travelling or anything like that. We always try to make something that's different and interesting to us as developers. Focusing on smaller battles with more tactical gameplay was a decision we made early on. Partly because we didn't love the travelling from room to room in dungeons with WQ1 and WQ2. On a personal note, I really don't love traditional free-to-play either. I see a lot of "tactical" games out there which are really slot machines dressed up with auto-gameplay stages. We've really tried hard to get away from that, but it's a tough look to shake because of the nature of how mobile games are perceived these days. With ST, we've included an entire campaign that you can play through for free. Along with 3 heroes to start with, which you can add to for free by playing the game. There are also 7 free daily quests every single day. There's an awful lot in there to play with, without having to spend any cash at all. We also tried to make an actual mobile game, rather than make a PC game that happened to be on mobile. So, it's designed to be played in small sections every day, or every few days. Think of it as a fun tactical thing to do when you have a few moments free. The change of pace from our previous games must have been an absolute headspin though!! That's our fault in not messaging what the game was a lot earlier! Another thing (we may address this in the future) is that the game does take a little while to get to the really tactical and different stuff. New enemies with different skills etc. Brand new environments. Loads of cool content. So, hey, I'd say, why not start afresh with it. Go in with zero expectations from our previous games. Take it for what it is, and dip in and out for a week or so. Hopefully you might see what we're going for, and you *might* start to enjoy yourself. Thanks for the honest feedback. For me this is a situation similar to the old Dungeon Master game on iOS. First two games amazing, premium priced games. Then it went freemium and didnt feel the same, felt like you're forced to buy items to get anywhere in the game. Surely (might be wrong) on a freemium game the whole point is you want players to buy IAP's or you guys dont make money. Yeah we can say 'well you dont have to buy anything to enjoy it' but its like an addiction, you buy one IAP to get new items/money and then you think just one more and so on ! I had one game like that (Madden) where i spent loads and i suddenly woke up and realised how much i was spending. With a $100 IAP i always find that quite disgusting as its a huge price to pay for some virtual gear on a game, i'm 'old skool' , grew up with 8 bit and 16 bit and just bought games. Megadrive (Genesis) games in the 90's were expensive at £45 in the UK but it was one price. Freemium games nowadays just 'seem' to have a pay wall. I play a game tons, its free, i'm loving it, then i get to 'level 22' and i realise it'll take me months to get coins to get the weapon i need, oh no, just pay £10 IAP and i can then get it. Just pay to win. Maybe this games different but as soon as i spot that $100 IAP i think there must be some major paywall at some point for them to feature an IAP like that. But again like Dungeon Master, i loved those Warhammer top down games, amazing games, some of the best on iOS and other Warhammer ones (There was a slide platformer style one, another was a bit like Chess) all great and all premium. So this looks good but knowing its freemium to me (who loves buying games) i'm a bit torn by. Dont get me wrong, cheapskate gamers are the reason theres freemium as they wait and wait and wait to see if theres a price drop for a $2 game or beg for promo codes or write fake reviews just to get a code etc. Thats why we have freemium. I'll always buy premium games on the first day to help the devs not wait a month to save a dollar. So tough one for you devs I must admit Edit - After reading your post above i'm sold, i'll download the game and give it a go. Nice to read your honest opinion about the whole freemium saga. I'll try the initial quests and see how i get on, again thanks for coming here and being honest mgambino Well-Known Member Aug 13, 2014 159 95 28 #18 mgambino, Sep 3, 2020 You’re messing with us right? What I don’t like about $100 IAPs? Hmm, the fact that it’s about twice the price of a full priced PC game, and what I get is tickets for gacha, which means I cannot even choose characters of my preference? Do you need some butter? And extra salt? Well, your story doesn’t relate to the inclusion of gacha system, with having normal and epic variations for characters with different level cap. What’s the story behind changing from pay for the character/contents you want system in Warhammer Quest 2 to the gacha system in Silver Tower?
