I think the problem is the random skills, and the game balance in general.

Your Grey Wizard may get totally useless skills. The others may, too, depending, although not quite as bad as the Wizard. Or you may get all the good skills and no problem.

For the black Orc assault - I went through that twice as the first time I lost the Grey Wizard due to the sheer number of Orcs and the time it takes to slice through them

Without the hammer of sigmar, I think it would just be impossible.

Now after reading through all this I am realizing my party isnt ideal. Wizard is missing Occams Mindrazor which makes him very weak; hes got some other totally useless spells instead though.
Archmage is better - while he doesnt do any serious damage his defensive spells are amazing.
My waywatcher is missing the extra attacks skill and the special +1 attack bow - with 2 extra ranged attacks he'd be killer! As it is hes ok but not great.
Neither of the Dwarves got any useful skills; Enrage is supposed to be so great but in all the 6 levels Ive played I can count the number of times this happened on one hand. Since its random it never happens when needed either.

So maybe I have to play it again and this time optimize the skills using the force shutdown trick - had not thought of that. Should we really have to do this? I think not, they should just let us choose...

I am also about fed up with the "randomness" that invariably feels very unrandom in that it is more often than not, stacked against you. If it were random, I would roll offensive magic with a high number AND walk into an encounter. That never ever ever ever happens.

    Ever.

I also find the "random" events while traveling to be extremely annoying to the point that they feel punitive.

It's ruining what would easily be one of the best games I've ever played on iOS.

To the dude who keeps complaining about the price:

Even factoring in the above frustrations, this game is easily worth a measly $17 (yes, I paid to unlock everything). The "race to the bottom" in the App Store is holding back the top tier titles and fueling the trend toward freemium krapware.

I really enjoy the randomization of powers. I actually feel it is one of the best aspects of the game, and gives it that "boardgame" feel. I also like how it limits having uber builds of characters.

Let me give an example. My first playthrough I had an awesome Grey Wizard. He had Okkam's Mindrazors, and a bunch of healing spells. Extremely powerful mix of healing support and boss killing. Another playthrough, my Grey Wizard didn't get Mindrazors. He wasn't nearly as powerful. But I actually found him more fun to play. He had the teleportation spell, cyclone stunning power, and nightmare visions. I pumped up his toughness, and had him teleporting all over the battlefield into clumps of foes, trying to stun them. Now, if I had the option to always give him the Mindrazors, I probably would, and I never would have experimented with a totally different playstyle.

That can't happen - the ambushes/encounters are caused by rolling a zero for magic. It's intentional, that's how it's meant to work. They aren't two seperate events.

So any ideas yet if this happens to drop any place more often? I am on my third playthrough, and I have yet to see this weapon. If it matters, I do have the Skaven campaign.

I don't have the skaven campaign and am fairly sure I got it in a white dungeon. Definitley as a random drop.

At the time my playtime was around the 20 hour mark.

Does anyone know if it's a unique item or can I have more than one?

Sorry, what I meant was I never roll a high offensive magic number before entering a new room AND have that room occupied. Ever.

Even if it is intentional, it's imbalanced. It feels like the developer is nerfing magic users because he/she finds them too powerful. To drive this point home, all I had to do was swap out either magic user for a Warrior Priest and suddenly the game feels random and "fair" again, and is much, much easier.

Why would anyone ever bring along a wizard or a mage when they are useless in every random encounter (as you pointed out) and often useless in scripted ones?

You're either the unluckiest person alive or mistaken here, but have you tried equiping the magic user with items that give +1 power? That should help you out.

Because they're not, my lvl 6 Grey Wizard often clears out the final room of a dungeon of all mosters by himself.

Okay, does anyone know if it is a specific type of white quest the hammer drops? For example, I almost never do the white quests that don't tell me the specific item that is the reward. I tend to focus on quests that will give me items I want. Could that be why I haven't seen it?

You must be crazy unlucky because I get high winds of magic all the time before big encounters. And magic users are far from useless even in the random encounters that result in a zero winds of magic roll. You only have a zero magic for the first turn. After that, you will normally be getting high rolls. Personally, I couldn't imagine playing without a Grey Wizard. I need that one character I can rely on to heal.

I've not had that problem. I find the magic users the most useful and powerful units - though it does depend on what spells you get when they level up. I always use one or the other or both if I feel like a gamble. Both + the warrior priest can be fun!

In line with the comments from other posters, I have this exact thing happen all the time.

I seem to have done everything except white quests. Everywhere I go it says 9/9 quests completed and full amount of settlements discovered. I notice there are areas of forest with greyed out symbols like crossed axes or a wreath etc. Are they in the game? There are no paths to them. So do I just keeping doing the white quests for fun till some DLC comes along?

I hate to be blunt but are there any more plans to make this itouch4 friendly? The thread is massive, I've written down my post number, and if not I'm finally gonna say I wasted close to $20 on something I'm never going to be able to play. Whatever, I just want my space back if that's the case.

I'm not sure what you mean here. Before the update, WHQ on my iTouch 4 was crashing all the time. Now it's extremely stable.

Hi guys, sadly the game kept crashing for me so I had to delete it. Can anyone recommend any similar games on ios as it was good fun?

(Having a party...levelling them up etc)

Can anyone tell me if there is a difference in difficulty between "Adventurer" and "Hardcore" modes? Or is the only difference permadeath? I'm finding Adventurer mode to be really easy now unfortunately. It seemed to be WAY harder before the first update. Thoughts?

i think the only difference is just the perma-death of you heroes in hardcore the game is still to easy imo, this should be more difficult like hunters 2 (easy, normal, hard and a check box to enable perma-death) so far the only real challenge comes from the black quest

    Two quick questions

None of the warriors can dual wield?

Mindrazor is a level 6 only spell for the Wizard or it can be randomly unlocked at any level? My Wizard is level 4 and I tried the reset trick countless times leading up to level 4 and not once did I see Mindrazor pop up, so I'm assuming it's an end game only spell?
