Read through much more of the thread. What a ride you guys who have been here from the begining have had! Jumping in now it is a hit overwhelming to figure out the IAPs.

My plan is to buy Shadow Warrior and Bright Wizard and pair them with Grey and Marauder. I dig nukers (bright) and think Grey will be a better choice then the orig archer. I will level up the orig dwarf too.

A few more questions - Appricate all the great responses!

    1) like the idea of new tiles and enemies but not sure if adding all that into my first play through would be overwhelming or welcomed diversity. Also, not planing to use witch hunter right away which could make the new enemies painful. If you were playing for the first time would you add in the extra mobs or not?

    2) planning to buy the Brutal Tribe expansion when I get to level 6 assuming I'm still going strong. How much am I giving up by not buying now and heading over to some whites for expansion gear some gear at the early levels?

    3) Reading a lot of meh reviews of The Hidden Threat. Pretty much the same items drop but new mobs are good. I'm in if it has new story elements and quest text and such. Assume it does but not seeing people talking about it. If it is the same quests as the main area I may pass.

Also, this is turning out to be a rather expensive .99 game :). Glad though - this is the kind of IAP I have no problem supporting though I agree with the folks that suggest a discount pack with everything in it would be nice.

    1. I don't really find the undead overwhelming, rather they add diversity not just in the first region, but all the expansion regions as well. Essentially having them means that when looking at random quests available at each town, you will have another monster type to chose from all the way from level 1 to level 8.

    2. You really don't need Brutal Tribe until level 6. The high end gear shows up based on level, so won't even be available until 6+, and the story quests in the region start at level 6.

    3. Hidden threat has similar random quests, but its own story and final quest(s). It is the same level range (1-6) as the base region, so is good for level up an additional team or your primary team if you find yourself leveling slower. Aside from new monsters, the tile set is also pretty distinct from the base regions. I like it, but it certainly doesn't have the same long-term play-ability that Brutal Tribe adds to the game.

Grey wizard is the by far best character in the game but you need to make sure to get the following spells (force quit if you don't get these to try again when leveling up, and if your Wizard has some of the more useless spells, start over):

    - Occam's Mind Razors - take out the enemy spell casters before they get a chance to do anything.
    - Twilight Translocation - this doesn't sound like a big deal but it will get you out of a pinch many times, and it allows for many creative ways to play the game.
    - Spectral Sanctuary Obviously, to heal the whole group instantly.
    - Healing Mist. Healing Mist in particular can keep a character alive perpetually even when he's facing overwhelming enemies. As long as the Wizard is well protected.
    - Revival Veil (revive dead). Never needed it but hey better have it.
    - Night Blade - only 4 points and 3 more attacks from your most powerful fighter - this is worth Gold.

My strong party has a Marauder - a must, this is the nuclear option of characters - and a Grey Wizard, the others can alternate between Iron Breaker (pretty good tank), Wood Elf (a bit weak), Priest (good since the update), Shadow Warrior (excellent with the right items).

Ogre seems like a waste of time though he looks good. Trollslayer seems to be weaker than the Iron Breaker - there's no good reason to have him, and a few good ones to not. Archmage will get your party killed thanks to totally random spells that aren't very good to boot. Bright Wizard seems decent but didn't play him much. Haven't played with the Witch Hunter enough to assess him but he's looking pretty good.

    Lair of the Orc Lord

So the lair of the Orc lord was a shitload of fun. Because I made it only hanging by a thread.

    *spoilers ahead*

How do other people get through the lava dungeon? There doesn't seem to be enough time to get through even if you know the route?

I failed about 3 or 4 times in the lava dungeon with the timer. I exited the dungeon just before the timer finished every time - I wasn't sure if it would be an instant kill or just more damage. I could handle more damage but didn't want to lose all items if indeed it is an instant kill once the timer runs out. So I accepted defeat to live and fight another day. Let me know if anyone's tried it.

The 5th time, I tried a novel approach. I left all the characters where they were, and just sent the Shadow Warrior to hunt for the exit. This is hardcore, of course.

This worked but there was a catch - the timer stopped and now everyone could move through. But at the end there's a rather large number of enemies waiting, no way the Shadow Warrior could take them on all on his own. So he took off, back to the party, with monsters on his heels.

Meanwhile the Grey Wizard was running and teleporting to get to him quick. Random monsters appeared lots of times to attack the spread-out and far apart party members. Wizard reached the Shadow Warrier just in time to heal when he had gotten knocked down by arrows and I had to wait for the cavalry to catch up. It took at least 2 hours to get through it all and only worked by a thread.

Because this was the longest combat I'd ever seen - I usually take out all monsters by round 2 or 3 at the latest with a high-damage low-armor team - I found another trick, the talisman of Power works every round. I did not know that before. But by the end of that long battle, the wizard had 130 power saved up so the rest was easy.

The spiders required a careful strategic approach but also with near limitless power wasn't scary. Tip: Let the spiders knock down your fighter. Then heal the fighter the next round and they get their full attack before they get webbed again. Otherwise they're just stuck in the webs and don't get to do anything.

The end result of a long protracted battle... maybe there's easier ways to do this. But I am pretty sure this was the most fun I've had with WH Quest so far.

I do not want to spoil things for the others but the teleport spell does WONDERS for the last black dungeon.
EDIT: High mobility robes and items help a lot too.

Almost never failed it (on hardcore) with that :)

The are probably other techniques for the crazy difficult last one, but this was the most reliable for me.

    Also

Be sure to answer correctly to the answers and be fast in the fire dungeon, the outcome is very different and much more manageble

I never failed the last dungeon, but I bailed out a few times before the timer ran out - did you find out what happens when the timer hits zero?

In hindsight I should have sent the Grey Wizard to disable the timer - like you said with the help of the teleport spell the wizard would be re-united with the party before the first random monsters show up. Once the party is together the random stuff that is coming stands no chance whatsoever.

But I didn't think of that, I just used the fastest runner to get to the end. Only then did I realize I needed an escape plan, too. Shadow Warrior is fast but was unable to outrun the monsters, the archers got him. Luckily the Grey Wizard was there in time to heal him, and then the orcs got blocked by the weak archers in the tunnel - fun times. I made mistakes but wouldn't have been as epic without them...

    Woah, never failed?
Congrats...I thought it was impossibile to make it through on hardcore at first try.
(I had my save safely saved on my PC)

    As for the dungeon....

If you do not 'exit' the dungeon in time, you get realtime continous damage to everyone.
Basically you see their HP bar going down.
It's almost impossible to clear the room so.
    At least I never succeeded.

Epic ending after that, loved it.

Yes. It was definitely epic. Loved the ending too.

The toughest parts were "how to beat the Lava timer" and the spider room. The rest was just standard black dungeon difficulty ;) Both required creativity to beat which made it awesome. The lava tunnels would have been a lot easier with the correct tactic. As it was I spent at least 2-3 hours in a single battle with my heroes spread out all over the dungeon. Did you send the grey wizard and then just hopped back to re-unite with the rest of the party on teleports?

I don't think it's possible to beat the timer running with the whole party? Just takes too long to move everyone?!

Thanks to my little mistake with the Shadow Warrior, I spent a very long time in this battle and so the talisman of power gave the Wizard more points than I've ever seen. Facing any kind of enemy with a Wizard with 130 power points it almost unfair. Well as long as you protect him that is ;) Hammer of Sigmar with near unlimited night blade spells wears down the hardest protections...

Well I do not think it was possible at first try just because the maze is huge and moving everyone with all those dead ends is not feasible, you eventually run out of time if you aren't very lucky and get no ambushes.

After the first (unsuccessful) try I just hopped the mage towards the end, taking advantage of every ambushes to try to get the others near...and it works almost always.
When enemies spawn, they are near even to the distant party members, as per rules.

If you answer correctly to the questions and make it before the 4 minutes timer runs out, the rest is pretty easy (well...standard black dungeon fare).

Interesting about the dagger. The description is not clear let alone the vague popup, but that does make sense.

Alas, all three of my saves are now in battles that cause the app to crash upon reload, regardless of clean restarts, trying further seems silly.

I rather wish i'd played long enough to know the iphone4 would choke before buying near full UAPs, as fun as the first few levels were and rest appears.

    Mea Culpa.

Man, could be so many things, Warhammer Quest 2, something completely original, hopefully something in either the Warhammer or 40k universes. Looks like lots of GW products coming out in the next year or so on IOS.

The most obvious choice would probably be Space Crusade. It seems like something that would be along the lines of RG's currently game designs.

I was planning this before prompting (and followed through!). Some aspect of the DLC appears to be the culprit as a clean install (without redtoring DLC) plays flawlessly... and the problem returns after restoring.

A caution for fellow iphone4 users, until the culprit is determined. Sadly i was silly and got them all at once so I cannot isolate it for others :(

Still, fun is now being had with base game again here. ^_^

Excited about the Unreal Engine - Rodeo Games totally rocks!

I've had good experiences with their support - got in a tricky situation once where I was unable to turn cloud saving back on so my game was only local and never got to the could. The gave me clear instructions to fix it and that worked well (had to do with game slots can't remember the exact details).

About WH Quest, some of the IAPs were a bit puzzling:
    - IAP Characters - Cool, although some of them are exceptionally useless (Archmage and Ogre I'm looking at you).
    - IAP New Content - well, of course. That's great. Make more, I'll buy it all!!
    - IAP Gold - Fine because there's plenty of Gold in the game and you really don't need to buy any.
    - IAP weapons - Being able to buy epic items is lame. And there are no precise descriptions of what the weapons actually do in game terms - you have no idea what you're buying. I guess to make up for the lameness, the epics aren't all that good. I only bought one, the Reaver Bow. That's because the Wayfarer Elf never got a better bow than the available-for-purchase masterwork elven bow. Reaver bow isn't really better though. Its one special ability is lame, no extra ranged attacks, and damage lower than the elven bow... wasted $1.99.
    - IAP tile sets - Huh???? I pay money for.... to get different tiles and rooms? Makes no sense to me.
    - IAP Vampires etc - It seems very strange that I'd have to pay to get more monsters - without getting any actual new content. No new story lines. Just more random shit.

I didn't buy the tile sets or undead. IMO both should be part of totally new content, a new story, a new area to explore, new dungeons to beat, etc. Maybe that was the plan but there wasn't enough money?

Anyway never spent any money on games until WH Quest and it performed flawlessly for the most part, so no regrets...

So far I've purchased the new areas and 2 warriors (bright wizard and shadow warrior). Will not buy gold or weapons as that kind of defeats the point of playing to me. The latest IAP for new enemies and the tile set does not sit right with me either. It does seem like they decided to stop development on new content and released the enemies and tile set they had built. I would jump if they released all 3 IAPs together for 4.99 but to offer less than you get in the episodes for twice the price does not make sense to me. To someone who did purchase - if you were to buy 1 of the enemy packs to spice up white encounters which one would you get?

I would say Necromancers and Skeletons tend to add more of a challenge than Vampires and Zombies.

I believe originally Rodeo was planning another region, as to the far south of the map you can see towns already laid out. The last update though pretty much revealed that they had run out of time and wanted to finish with WQ to move on to the next project. They thus released what they had managed to get developed, added a final dungeon to make the overall game somewhat complete and went on their way.

I do think the undead could have simply been bundled together, but still, if it comes down to a set price for quality game content or freemium model of lazy game design in the name of shaking as many dollars out of player's pockets as possible, I'll support the set price structure every time.

I bought the witch hunter and the shadow warrior. The witch hunter was definitely a great purchase with its good skills and its willpower mechanic, he's one of my best warriors. The shadow warrior is hard to find gear for, but now that I've been finding better equips for him he's getting better. Skill wise he seems distinct from the wayfarer enough to cause you to change up your playstyle. I don't regret either purchase. What are the other good IAP characters? I was considering the bright wizard and the warrior priest as my next purchases, since apparently the warrior priest was buffed in a recent update.
