Just to add to this, you don't NEED to buy anything at all past the base game. The base game is completely self-contained in that it has it's own story quest line and infinite side quests. All the add-on content is simply there for people that want more, and even then you can pick and choose what you want and what you don't.

Looks very much like I have to come back to WHQ on the weekend now.
Might even give it a shot with my - currently abandoned and lower level - Hardcore Party.
Should give some nice buildup for Mr.Witchhunter, when he can start with some easier tasks at hand.

Sharpen the stakes, build up the pyres!

This game is mostly a turn-based dungeon crawler. It has really nice graphics and atmosphere. Basically, you take a group of up to 4 warriors into each dungeon and try to reach an "objective" room that usually has a boss monster that needs to be killed. Each dungeon is procedurally generated from large "blocks" of rooms connected by tunnels or passages. While traveling in a dungeon, you will, on occasion have non-fighting encounters, but those are pretty rare events are usually don't have much effect.

After you've finished a quest, you travel to towns on a map where you can sell you treasure, train you warriors, etc. And then, you set out to complete more quests.

There are three types of quests - regular quests, storyline quests, and final quests. The regular quests mostly play out the same way, but are populated with different types of enemies. Storyline quests have more variety, since those are less procedurally generated and some include non-fighting events that can branch the quest path. final quests, of which there are 3 (one in the base game, one in Skaven expansion, and one in the Brutal Tribe expansion) and brutally difficult quests that can be roughly described as the end game material.

There is loot collecting, but it isn't anything like, e.g., Diablo's system. In general, items are more limited, but extremely important. They also have a character inventory system that is divided into three levels - common, uncommon and rare. Your warriors can each equip up to twelve items, 4 of each rarity level. This is actually an interesting system. For instance, at first, your weapons tend to be common (basic swords et al), but as your warriors progress, they find uncommon and rare items. This frees up the common slots of healing potions or other consumable items. I find this system really nice. It is impossible to break the game balance by loading up on the most powerful everything, and it keeps common items useful throughout the game.

WHQ can best be described as a premium game. The initial purchase gets you the largest area, and four warrior classes.

You can buy two expansions (Skaven and Butal Tribe) that open up additional areas of the map, give you new types of dungeons and enemies with which to fight, and new items.

You can also buy additional warrior classes. Note that you cannot bring more than 4 warriors into a dungeon, so this will give you more variety, but not fundamentally change the game. If you do buy an additional warrior class, it will enable you to find items specific to that class (most weapons and armor are class bound).

They also now sell an additional set of dungeon tiles and two new enemy packs. Those packs are used to increase the variety of the regular quests. I like them because it keeps the game fresh for me.

Finally, the sell gold and a few items. Skip those. You will never need them. Even the legendary items for sale are significantly worse than the legendary items you will find once you reach higher levels.

In short, this is basically like the WHQ board game in that the base game can be expanded with expansion packs, additional dungeon tiles, and/or additional warrior types. There are no gimmicky freemium traps like energy timers or premium currencies.

I really like it. I like that each warrior is kind of a badass in their own way, even from the beginning. While ultimately this is a dungeon crawler, you're always doing interesting things, even at level 1. There are no "go kill ten goblin toddlers" or "bring me 5 apple pies" type of quests. I also really like the magic system.

Be warned that the game can be extremely punishing. Your warriors will die, I assure you - even high level ones. Sometimes you will be ambushed and be lucky to escape with even one warrior alive. Plus, there is a a Hardcore game mode which features permadeath. You don't have to play it on hardcore mode, but I find it much more fun. I've watched as my warriors, facing the final enemy on the final quest were ambushed and brutally slaughtered, and loved every minute of it.

You forgot to describe the last fun part of the game: once you lose all your saved game for no reason...

    BEWARE.

    I REPEAT, BEWARE.

If you buy both enemies expansions and you have already a maxed out party, be very cautious entering their lairs (the new tile set).

Getting out a room with a Vampire Lord surrounded by undeads after a skeleton army and a Necromancer is really QUITE AN EXPERIENCE.

    IF YOU GET OUT ALIVE.

    (Hardcore, of course).

    AMAZING, SIMPLY AMAZING.

Oh btw, this was with a really REALLY badass party, armed to the teeth with plenty of legendary objects ammassed in the 80 hours of my AAA hardcore game.

I'm very pleased with this new material. Bit of a breath of fresh air into the dungeons.

But, after playing Space Hulk for a bit it feels like my party is roller skating about the place, lol.

I totally agree with the posts in the last two pages. This game keeps getting better and better. Beefing up the white quests was really the way to go, especially if this does turn out to be the last DLC offered (which i fervently hope is not the case). I also agree that the weapons DLC are the last on the list for anyone to get as you have a chance to get better in the game. RPG game of the year is well deserved, for my vote it should also get both board/card GOTY, and the overall GOTY, though i do not think it will get the last because this was a very good year to be an IOS gamer. I am not a frequent poster on these forums, but a faithful lurker, as usual IMHO, YMMV, happy holidays to all.

I'd really have loved to have seen both rodeo and full control do versions of space hulk as I love the hunters games and warhammer quest but I also love the new space hulk. Guess I just like the 40k universe and want more of it.
Maybe that's rodeos new game:confused: A licences gamesworkshop 40k version of hunters ;) that would be sweet.

Did anyone notice that after the update the "R" in the word Rodeo in the opening is starting to crumble at the top. Is that a hint of the next game? Albeit a tiny hint.

The new lightening effect in some of the new tile set rooms is just awesome.

I envy people who will receive an iPad Air next Christmas, buy the whole package and start a fresh new adventure in the Old World.
The game+all expansions is quite massive now.

I can totally relate as I have an air and I think this is my favorite game of all time on IOS..... even though the game costs a decent amount if you buy all the IAP.

I've usually run with the scale of $1/hr of entertainment, which is a pretty good bargain if you ask me. Cheaper than any movie you'll ever pay for.

Once again, I've gotten more than my money's worth out of this game. If the timers are correct, I've put in 25hrs in my hardcore game alone, and I can believe that. My regular game is clocked in at 103! Holy cow! No way would I pay $100 for an iPhone game, but that's what I've put in with this sucker.

Easily one of my top iOS games, along with CrimsonHeart and Ascension.

After updating to the latest version (1.20), I've noticed that my iPhone runs significantly hotter while playing this game than it used to. Between my two Adventurer and Hardcore games, I've got around 50 hours of playtime (still don't have a level 8 character) and I've never had to put the game down because my phone felt too hot. Now it gets uncomfortable after 15-20 minutes.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Am I crazy?

After spending some time with the new stuff, this is the most polished stuff they've done yet. Animations, lighting effects, all great stuff, and the variety in mobs breaks up the repetitiveness of the white side. As others said, this is definitely not an incomplete expansion and is probably the biggest one yet in how it affects the game from the very beginning.
