I think it all depends on the battle mages abilities, he's a work horse in my team b. I'll admit he's not my choice if I'm unsure of what I'm getting into but I kinda like his defensive skills and the offense is just enough to assist or finish off what the ogre does with one hit.

This does seem to usually be the case and I have found that selling items often means they will show up again. At the same time, I have gotten duplicates of items like the Dragon Fire Orb before.

My hardcore game I use all the characters and always bring the 4 with the lowest exp. You want a challenge? By my rules I had to do the skaven quest where you search a huge map fighting both orcs and skaven, with all 3 casters and a warrior priest. Now that was a crawl. Everytime I ended a turn I had my fingers crossed that I'd avoid another ambush!

I started one like that too; think I even left one of the Wizards at home and used the Waywatcher.
    Two words: no fun.
I quit it after 4 dungeons at the most. Not because it was difficult (that was actually a refreshing challenge). But because it was tedious, clunky and horrible to play.
    Talk about game balance...

I toughed it out, but I had about 3-4 ambushes PER room, and keep in mind the particular dungeon I was doing is long, so it took multiple plays over the span of a week, rather than a single sitting. It was a bit tedious, but what really got me is I managed to keep everyone up or at least unpoisoned when they went down, right until the room before the end when my Bright Mage was nuked by a Grey Seer and they killed by a melee poison attack. I got him back up, but now that he is crippled, he is as good as dead. One of the reasons I think weakened status should be removable in town, even in hardcore, but for a price.

To deal with the poison, give everyone a green +1 wound/turn ring.

Read quite a few random pages probably 30-ish of the 300) to learn more about game /expansion, then up and bought it. For the most part, a great game. I loved the hunters series so it was an easy 5 $, and bought the shadow warrior when I was running out of inventory space (plus I didn't like the fact after you hit once on the way watcher your locked into position, at least you can shoot and move with the sw - after the bow, as long as you don't melee anywho). I had a question, I finished the 9 quests fairly easily and fast ( at mostl level 5-6). So my question is, is that all for 5 $(+3$ for sw)? Even if the dlc is "extra" there didn't seem to be any closing etc, its as if the "story" went halfway and just stopped. And in order to progress I need to, figuratively speaking, pay a toll to cross the chasm to continue the story, or just drive around my side of the cliff? Since it seems any mid road flags lead me to villages that state I must buy the certain dlc. I'm wondering if I missed a town that concludes the game for those that don't pay for the dlc packs. Tia

I am pretty sure there is an overarching story-arc, judging from the story you get for the expansions' Black Dungeons, especially the one in Averland.
There is room on the map for at least one more expansion. In fact, you can already see what is most likely the next area when you zoom the overland map all out. And noone says they cannot just expand the map as they see fit; or do a sequel.
Someone posted the full Warhammer map many pages back: that thing is HUGE. We only saw a tiny part of it in WHQ so far.
    Here is the worldmap: http://warhammerfantasybattle.wikia.com/wiki/Map_of_the_Warhammer_World
And the Empire map (where we are): http://warhammerfb.wikia.com/wiki/Empire,_The

Oh yeah, it was that map: http://www.gitzmansgallery.com/shdmotwow.html
Not called "super huge detailed map" for nothing. Quote: "This map is HUGE! It's 29,952 pixels wide by 22,528 pixels tall."

If you like the game, the DLC is definitely worth it. Think of if as expansion packs for a boardgame, like e.g. Settlers of Catan has a boatload of. I don't expect to get those for free, either ;)

All my characters had regen items. The problem is, when in a single turn an enemy caster does 40+ damage in a single shot THEN the melee mobs start to attack, there is no window of time for regen to kick in.

There should be a black, repeatable quest that appears after you beat the initial 9 quests that ties in with most of the other quests. So far, every zone works this way, there are 9+ quests, sometimes standalone, sometimes chained, that when all completed unlock a single high end dungeon that has some kind of link with most, if not every other quest that cam before it. These black quests don't always unlock right away and sometime you need to wander around town to town and complete some more random white quests.

As for the DLC, the Skaven expansion's story is standalone. The Brutal Tribe is connected, although not so rigidly that if you missed reading something from the original region you won't get what is going on.

Thanks for all the info and help kirenx+null zone. After doing the last red (9/9 shown) I was mainly going between the 3 villages on the left and doing white quest with rewards and never saw a black one pop up. So I'm going through each village and doing a random quest to see if I see the black one pop up.vat least ill have some closure and can move on to the dlc lol x.x It felt weird just seeing 9/9 done without any sort of closure for the original game. I'll keep at it till I see the black quest thanks a bunch again.

Null that is a huge map lol i guess we can expect a lot more in the future, well hopefully anyway. I agree I don't expect to get expansion packs free either, (albeit I probably came off like that). Given the price (albeit high enough replay ability in the original) seemed short, plus for it to drop off the story without closure (it was i feared, and had missed content as you guys pointed out) and with 2x4$ dlc seemed weird. And caused me to jump the gun a bit I apologize for my hastiness+ rudeness.

After I find that darn black flag, thanks to you two I'm gonna go buy one (probably the others too x.x and maybe another wiz, but loving my grey right now) of the dlc's lol.

    @phrenik: No worries ;)
About the black "quests": There is one in each region, and they have a fixed location. In Stirland, it was close to the starting town, Marburg, if I remember right.

My new project going forward slowly. Started seeing problems with doing enough dps to finish encounters. Just orcs are a bit of work. I have doubts the group will be able to handle black orcs but lets see. All is about level 3 now, bright wizard and ogre soften the groups and the archer efls finish em off. Without the doorfs and marauder melee dps is severely lacking. Well, still a long way to go to lv 8 but no one died....yet

Any tips for a war hammer noob playing on hardcore? I leveled up most of my characters to level 5-6 still playing on the first campaign since my guys keep getting killed by those Orc warchiefs with those double swords. I keep missing and they have at least 3 attacks per turn each doing over 10 damage. Managed to scrape past a few dungeons when they appear but ultimately at a certain point my whole squad gets wiped out due to these enemies. It's really annoying since it's permanent death and I have to retrain a bunch if new heroes and grind to get their gear back.

Don't level up too quickly. Grind for gear as the mobs level up as you do.

That's my advise, too. Take it slow. Find a good spot, e.g. 2 towns with 3 or 4 white quests, right next to each other. If you don't see a good reward, just move back and forth.
Good equipment makes a huge difference.

Also, in the dungeons, do the same: proceed slowly. No need to rush things.
And when you level up, make sure you get a good amount of wounds and magic reserve. It is worth trying for half an hour to get good wounds/magic and a good skill.

It is perfectly doable to never suffer a wipeout, or even lose a single character.
If you cannot kill whatever the game throws at you in 2-3 rounds (for the stronger stuff like those damage-resistant orcs; easy monsters should all fall in one round, maybe a 2nd for mopup) , you need to get stronger.

Party choice also makes a huge difference:
In terms of raw power, I prefer this party: Marauder, Gray and Red Wizard, Shadow Warrior. If you prefer more melee, replace the Shadow with the Ironbreaker.

Either I am doing it wrong. Or my game is bugged. Or there is a misunderstanding somewhere.

I still see people coming in to say poison can be removed in hardcore.

    Anyone has tested and confirmed?

When a charcter is hit by a poisoned weopon he is marked as being poisoned. That will be taken off any healing. If a poisoned character is knocked down they suffer-1 strength. This CANNOT be healed and is permanant on hardcore. Is that what you are referring to?

For even more "kill it all instantly with melee" go gor marauder, iron and trollslayer backed by a grey with blades of night
