True enough, and I apologize for my part in things escalating. I'll chalk it up to a communication wall and avoid responding to Speedweed in the future as I don't think the discussions between the two of us are productive and I'm not confident I could change that.

On another note, just got the new Gotrek & Felix book, hopefully better than Road of Skulls was. Also started reading The Lost Tales which is a great collection of short stories with a variety of monsters. Makes me want to see more notable characters and locations from the Warhammer universe make their way into the game. I don't see why we can't fight some iconic villains as long as the quest story accounts for them not permanently dying. G&F certainly do that a few times.

Does it track xp indefinitely though? I could be mistaken, but I thought it stops at the half way mark through the next level.

The greater ring of striking is probably worth getting though for your dominant melee characters. +30% melee hit chance is a fairly respectable boost, though you can get them from drops later on.

Outside of the masterwork weapons later on, which I bought n used until I collected all the nice orange rewards.

I don't know if non expansion dlc players have access to orange rewards. Cos I have all of them and before the last patch, orange items quest reward were super common in brutal tribes. They have since patched that and nerfed ambushes considerable.

Honestly you probably don't need to buy anything except scroll of healing to res down characters. ( who are not poisoned )

But consider getting the rabbits foot for your main killer.

My experience so far is I do get more equipment drops when I kill with the character that has the rabbit foot. It could be confirmation bias on my part. Cos I been using It on my marauder since I came to the town where it was available.

Anyone has a similar experience with the rabbits foot.

Welcome to the party. Just in time for Karaoke singalong: Blood for the Blood God, Skulls for the Skull Throne... :p
By all means, please contribute your experiences whenever you feel like it. Getting a fresh perspective is always good.

Can't say much about the sound, I almost always play with it off, or only the music on very low volume.
Fully agree that it would add more bells&whistles if you could see those things in the dungeons.
Don't worry about the training costs. You will hit a wall where you run out of money now and then. Took me ages to get the cash to go from level 6 to 8 with all my folks. Also, the things you can buy do not run away, you can always come back later.
My advise is to get a level or two for a core party whenever you have an opportunity. 6 and great equipment is enough to tackle even level 8 dungeons if you are careful. Don't rush through the story quests. Spend time looking for white quests that give you better equipment.

I don't know why you are taking it so personally.

I am here to share my experience.

You can use what is effective to you and makes u happy, I can use what is effective for me.

I did a lot of experimenting.

My numbers tell me something, your experience tells you yours is good.

I took time to explain my reasoning and assertions.

Talisman of power is indeed brutal tribes only.
As far as I know u can't heal characters that are poisoned in hardcore. And have not been able to remove it.

Since having access to brutal tribes and hardcore poison removal is a problem. Both are valid questions. If I am wrong about that, kindly feel free to correct me.

Not tell me I got tunnel vision and because + power is popular.

I don't think there is a communication wall, I just got the impression that You think I am asking dismissive questions, while beating my own chest and say your style sucks.

Which I never did. I said I think my numbers look better.

I have gained a fair bit of knowledge reading thru the pages when I just started.

I am grateful and I am trying to share my experience with people here.

I believe We can agree to disagree amicably.

    @Kirenx:
Thanks for being considerate, very much appreciated. And contrary to what you say, I think you two can have a good discussion. Heated argument is fine, as long as it does not get personal; in German we say "dass die Fetzen fliegen", maybe best translated as "chunky salsa argument" :p

I never could warm up to most of the Warhammer Fantasy reading, be it official books or fanfic. I immensely enjoyed "The Laughter of Dark Gods", and for example a fanfic about Nissen Redhand (cannot find the link now). 40k is a different story though; I actually find several fanfic pieces way better than the official books (google "Pondsworth and Griggs", "Love and Krieg", or read this for extra hilarity: http://1d4chan.org/wiki/The_Guy_Who_Cried_Grendel).

UPDATE: Just found it in my links, turns out I had the spelling wrong. It's Niesenn Red-Hand. And here is an awesome story for you, gives me the shivers everytime: http://www.incunabulum.co.uk/LessonsInBlood.htm

@Speedweed: Sorry, cannot comment on the Rabbit's Foot yet. Will give it a try if I find the time. Finally gave in and started a Hardcore play. Let's see how I fare.
As I don't have time to start a blog or such, I will try to chronicle my adventures here, might provide some additional info and entertainment.

I've just found in my experiences with online forums, that when someone starts to talk past you, rather than to you, it is easy for things to boil over fast. This may be do to a language barrier, communication gap, or however you want to explain it, but I've rarely seen it turn out positively and thus prefer simply to not engage. I don't think others in the community particularly appreciate having to read pages of posts between two posters reiterating the same few points, I know I don't so I just find backing off for the best.

I've read a lot of the official Warhammer lore, but actually G&F are the only novels I've read to date based in the universe. The series is written by multiple authors, however, and this does sometimes lead to a big disconnect. The Road of Skulls for instance seemed to disregard a lot of what made the characters engaging and fun. I do admit, it's not so much that I think the books are really well written though, I just find them amusing light reading were you get to watch a Slayer kill a whole lot of Warhammer baddies in a variety of gruesome and over the top ways. Part of what I like about these stories is that they don't try to take themselves too seriously.

My Hardcore Play - Introductory Thoughts

First of all, I will use a party I know that works extremely well.
A bit boring maybe, but with my very limited time I don't want to take any risks.
    I will go with:
    Marauder, focused on melee
    Gray and Bright Wizard
Dwarven Ironbreaker or Shadow Warrior, depending on who finds good equipment first.

    And the first insight:
Starting Wounds vary somewhat. Here is the ranges I have:
    Marauder: 10-15
    Ironbreaker: 13-14
    Gray Wizard: 8-12
    Bright Wizard: 11
    Shadow Warrior: 11

Other stats and skills are fixed at start.

Does anyone know the max starting Wounds for the Shadow Warrior? Mine has only 11, not too happy with it and might retire him for another try if it's worth it.

@Kirenx: You will love Pondsworth&Griggs and Grendel then ;) I find both absolutely hilarious.
P&G is more dry British style humour. Grendel is just cranked up to 11: the adventures of a bookworm turning "Hero of the Imperium!(TM)" , all thanks to some insane rolls of the dice.

OK, Grendel was pretty hilarious. I know crazy things can happen when you play table top. I once played Arkham Horror, a game that attempts to recreate a Lovecraftian experience and due to completely insane rolls had a farmboy beat an ancient god being to death with nothing but his fists.

My Hardcore Play - Leaving Siegfriedhof

The only white quest in Siegfriedhof did not offer any good rewards (rescue type, no item reward). So I went for the two storyquests there and completed them without much trouble.
My two Mages are still pretty useless, with no reserve and Winds too low to even cast a single spell most turns.
On the plus side, I have a few healing items more than when I arrived: I actually use them more now, better safe than sorry.
My guys are all halfway to level 2, with 2000 gold in the bank.
I really want/need some better equipment, so I will make a run for the next town, leaving the white dungeon (rescue again, sigh) if things get too dangerous.

My Hardcore Play - Arriving in Marburg

I survived the dungeon, again without problems, and arrived in Marburg.
No good equipment to buy there, so I will go back to Siegfriedhof, see if I can get a bow for my Marauder: in the beginning, every little bit helps; should have bought one earlier.

Everyone is ready for level 2.
I already leveled my Gray and Bright:
Bright got +4 Wounds, +6 Powerstore. Not optimal, but I was lucky to get Sear Wounds (his healing spell) right away, so I just kept it.
Gray settled for "Cure Small Wounds", on the offchance that it indeed heals poison in Hardcore as someone else mentioned a few pages back. But mainly because he got +5w and a whopping +9ps after a few tries.
Marauder I gave a few tries, with varying results: Wounds I saw range from 2-6. And I really want the skill next that gives extra attacks when new enemies show up. But I only got it once with lousy 3 wounds. Skills also varied, from the rather underwhelming Duckback to Battlerage. Will continue tomorrow.

    Lessons learned:
    1) What you get at levelup varies quite a lot: Wounds for my Gray had a range of 2-5, Powerstore of 5-9. What you settle for makes quite the difference in the long run.
With only one extra level, my Gray now already has almost 1/3 of my first Gray's Powerstore of 29.
    2) I don't like leveling up Wizards. Needing 3 good rolls (wounds, powerstore, and the spell you get) is a real hassle.
    3) For Fighters, only Wounds and Skills vary on levelup. All other stat gains (e.g. Str or Tough) are fixed.

    Questions:
Does the Gray at level 2 only have the choice between Cure Small Wounds and Finger of Life? Both are really underwhelming healing spells. I hoped for something better.
When I retire a character, will he take his equipment along? Or does it go to my storage?

Not at all sure. I'll remember to check for it next time I level up but I can't say I've noticed it.

But then, anecdotes and all that.

So when doing random quest what's the benefit doing quest that don't reward loot or should you never do them? Mabey you get more money?

I'm sure the spells are more randomized than that as I have had Grey Wizards without either spell.

When you retire a character all the equipment goes with him/her so make sure to take it off.

The rescue quests can offer some pretty good rewards depending on who you rescue. Characters that sound like nobles tend to offer high cash rewards. Herbalists and alchemists' tend to give consumables, which later can mean 3-4 orange potions. Others, like the fletcher offer a reward that will be one of a certain amount of different weapons. With the fletcher I've gotten a blue bow that I think was 6-8 damage and +2 strength and another with +2 toughness a different time. The kill a certain named creature ones do not seem to offer better rewards than the others, but they do offer better experience as the boss at the end generally gives a big boost to whoever kills it.
