Thanks, guys... But no need to be sorry. Because of it, I've been exposed to what could arguably be one of the best iOS games in the AppStore. And without trying to derail the thread any more than I have, I did go to the hospital last night and found out that, while interesting, its not nearly as bad as I was worried it had the potential to be. I just have to wait it out now. =o) Anyway:;: WHQ. I think it's also helping to set a new standard for the games I will buy, will keep on my iDevices and even what I will wind up devoting time to play in the future. There's too much greatness out there. To be spending time on anything that doesn't fully grab you is to not give yourself, or those great games, what they deserve. Enough of my ramblings... LONG LIVE WHQ!!!
Glad to hear all is fine...have a speedy recover!!! And yes, the game is awesome To some of us, certainly me, it's something really special. My favorite setting, my favorite boardgame, my favorite ruleset (I much favor simple over complex...always preferred the D6 over the D20)...all rendered in a slick and awesome package, on my favorite platform. Another thing that really makes the game special to me is that you get a sense of accomplishment in a short time span...while not neglecting a broader setting/story/involvement. I get sick when I hear that some games offer 'more than 100 hours of main quests'...usually I get bored after 5-6 (happened with Skyrim, Witcher 2....)...still I can play 30 minutes a WHQ dungeon and be satisfied...and over 150 hours later I'm still playing. With life, wife, son and all...I won't ever enjoy something like Ultima 7, Baldur's Gate and such fantasy games as I did in the past when time was not a issue....Rodeo game is just perfect for me in that department (and many others too)....they perfectly mix an hardcore so called triple A experience with the new mobile easy accessibility.
Thanks guys. =o) And yeah, I can imagine that this game looks absolutely stunning on the iPad. Unfortunately, I sold mine a couple of months ago so that we could get our oldest a graduation present. =o) I'm thinking I'll get either an iPad 4 or 5 in February... either that or a Cannon EOS camera. I know... I'm spoiled as all hell - but if it makes it any better for anyone reading this, aside from about $15-$20 every couple weeks on iOS games (which, yes, has gone WAY down over the last 6 months or so), everything we make goes towards the kids and bills. But tax time is when my wife and I each get ourselves one expensive item each. =oP
I just completed succefully the last Skaven red quest on hardcore. Took me 3 hours of pure unadulterated AWESOMNESS. Each character got over 80K experience points. Spoiler For the first time, I took my time and killed all the assassins to get the greatest reward...that dungeon is HUGE!!! I particularly HATED that ultra long corridor where, when ambushed, you were hammered by Orc Warbosses on close quarters while 5 tiles away a group of shamans casted scorch like there was no tomorrow. Black dungeons, here we are!!!!
Unfortunately, Rodeo Games have just announced that due to licensing issues beyond their control, development on the expansion and any further content has been halted indefinitely, and the base WQ app is likely to be removed from the app store entirely. Psych! Now, just how much did you panic upon reading that, Pitta?
LOL!!! I was about to book a flight to London and then a car to Nottingham to Games Workshop main building, armed with my hammer of Sigmar!!! I already had a +8 melee attack due to extreme rage!!!
I am waiting to pick this game up until I beat Ravenmark: SOE (one campaign left woot woot!), so this "news" terrified me that I hadn't done it soon enough. # A side note. I have hunters 2, and so far while I finish Ravenmark it is scratching the hardcore/tbs/dungeon crawling itch decently, but I wonder if WQ is so much better that I'd be wasting time to try to finish H2 before WQ. I know they are different games, but is WQ so great it's worth skipping H2 for the time being?
Yeah...I can spend literally minutes when it happens to try to place my marauder or ironbreaker in the most useful position to take advantage of that melee power. I HATE when it happens and I can strike just 1 or 2 low level minions.... But...I LOVE that wonderful crushing sound and reading: DEATHBLOW DEATHBLOW DEATHBLOW DEATHBLOW .......
Despite what some people say they are quite different. H2 uses an action point system, with strat aspects such as oversight. WHQ is more traditional turn based where you have one move and one action. I loved H2, but prefer WHQ. However, that may be due to my love for the Warhammer universe.
Ravenmark is another fantastic TBS Hunters 2 is IMHO still a great game, there are differences enough to enjoy both (besides the obvious different setting). Hunters 2 campaign is really short tough...so you will be able to complete it in few hours (still, thanks to contracts, I put tons of hours in it last year).
They play quite differently, on the surface they appear similar due to engine and being TBS, but they both offer their own flavour once you get an understanding of each game. Personally I enjoyed WHQ more but they're both worthy titles in their own right.
Weirdly, my two devices no longer sync and had two separate save games They used to work great I deleted the phone version and reinstalled, but no go Now am starting from scratch on the phone, but still have my current game on the ipad It says it is syncing fine
I'm really enjoying the game on both iPad and iPhone, the cloud save working flawlessly which is perfect. But I do have one issue, I don't know if anyone has mentioned this previously as I don't have time to read a very long thread, I do struggle to read any of the writing on the iPhone, it's really too small and at my age my eyesight is only going to get worse, any chance an option to make the font size slightly larger will be in a future update. TBH I find even the iPad text too small but not painful to read like the iPhone.
Another thing I really would like to see implemented, even if just for looks not to break any rule (they weren't in as far as I remember in the orginal boardgame) are armour sets. Like...a quest where you have to go to an ancient hero tomb and search for his armour/sword/shield/bow/staff/whatever.... Then you find out a thief was already there so you have to go to another location to find another piece of the set... Obviously the whole set will be awesome graphically to look at Another thing, I would love closed doors you could open only with a specific object. Like a sacred gem to open some magical door to have access to some target room. Obviously...getting the sacred gem is another quest...hidden deep down a well guarded dungeon.... You get the idea.
I would choose always power +1. Pinning is when you are movement-inhibited because you have an enemy adiacent (and as per rules, enemies are ALWAYS placed one by one near each character...even if Rodeo took some liberty expecially when entering a room for the sake of a more videogame vibe). The higher the pinning value, the less chance of being pinned. Personally, I use the Gray Wizards from the back, so pinning is relative and mostly only when ambushed, expecially if he has offensive spells like okkam razor. When his skill tree is pure healing...I would consider +pinning modifiers an option, just because I want it agile to get near fallen comrades but it's rarely the case. Another thing to keep in mind...the Gray Wizard, with some objects, can be a medium melee character so keep in mind that too. But, most of the time, you will want every power point possibile instead of an agile wizard. The only base character that is immune to pinning because of high agility is the elf.
