Cyllwynn is a he as opposed to a their. Lol. I grew up playing Space Hulk and WHQ, and every other GW game made until I aged some and realized that there are so many better game makers out there. BUT GW has always has some really really great systems and mechanics that made things fun (and sometimes infuriating) but even at their worst they were still fun. The level up system is just absurd. Not only does it make for a crappy game experience, but thematically its just foolish. Your elf wizard spends all day studying and using magic but somehow gets all ripped with a 6 pack accidentally? Who came up with that crap? Im not going to waste anymore time saying what is wrong or could be fixed. Basically, I knew we were screwed when Ben said something like we wanted all the characters to be able to be played how you wanted. Yeah... In a single player game like Skyrim that rocks. In a party and class based game thats just a huge cop out. You have play balanced characters so that you have to use different characters strengths and weaknesses to overcome whatever is thrown at you. (Please are Darkest Dungeon for a game with classes that are so varied people play with groups made up of all sorts of crazy ass class combinations). I loaded that first saved game and with my 2nd level captain and his explosive pistol and his weapon master skill was able to use his rapid fire flintlock which he can fire 6!!! Times a turn was able to get 26 of the 30 kills from a random mission near the end of the first campaign where I had left off after playing the first time around. WHQ and Rodeos WHQ1 was a board game (and then a digital one). So it had limitations and systems set up to make up a board game feel like an epic RPG (see Gloomhaven). You cant just take away the whole concept of a pinning movement system and not replace it. Duh. Taking away all of those systems and not replacing them with anything just meant that a really bad but pretty XCOM clone was left in its place. And its just sad to see. Its also sad to see that you have fans so devoted to these games that they will make up in their heads how well the game plays. They want it to be good that bad. I got to see 2 ambushes!!! Score. 3 bats, and 2 zombies. It was not a game changer. It was. It fun. Im sad. You guys came in and listened to the comments for a little while and argued with some of them instead of making a big list of what went wrong and fixing it. Then you made a sequel with more pretty rooms and models to try and get another $14 a head from people. I have literally spent thousands of dollars in the App Store since the iPhone 1 and have never asked for a refund. Im going to this time. Its just my statement of how sad it is to see a company (companies) that went from amazing to just not getting it. I honestly havent been this bummed about an iOS game since I found out that Deathwatch wasnt getting expansions and somehow was the death of Rodeo. Take care all, Im headed back to Darkest Dungeon.
New campaign first impressions I only played the first stage of the new campaign, but my first impression is pretty good: Looks great, the Chaos guys seem to be a good bit tougher than the earlier enemies, both in terms of HP and how often and hard they hit you. And, I got ambushed by a bunch of Chaos Marauders while still fighting the room's original wave. That's the one thing I really don't like (contrary to a lot of folks here), would have been much better to make ambushes optional. @Ben: You listening? I want a toggle for those. Depending on how frequent the ambushes are, this might change the game a lot: have to play more to evaluate that, though. Didn't have time yet to give the new heroes a try, can take a bit till I get around to it. Not to mention I still want to post my evaluation of the original batch of heroes... On the downside, they didn't fix any of the various balance issues that people (including us "rabid fanboys" ) reported, which should have been a priority in my book. E.g. the Knuckleduster is still as overpowered as ever. But then, we don't know what kind of obligations Perchang has with GW - e.g. I can very well imagine it's part of their contract to add more content X by date Y. However, it would be nice if Perchang could give some word if they plan on doing any balance changes; and if yes, which ones. Oh, and add the obvious things like showing on the worldmap what ameneties are in a town, like e.g. Cyllwynn pointed out again.
Glad I didnt jump on the new content right away. Will wait to hear what Perchang has to say in response to some of the latest comments in this thread. On the plus side, FF XV is amazing heh, so can focus on that while waiting for this update to shake out.
Great news they found the money to fund such a large enhancement! But I notice that selling heroes require unequipping and selling their items first as equipped items don't seem to count in. Anyone can recommend which of the new classes to buy???
Yes. They are very random. Ive gone 4 missions without one and 2 missions in a row had them. I also sat still and just ended the turn over and over for 20 turns with no effect. If youre going to waste your money, definitely get Brian Boitano the war dancer. He makes a funny little peer wet every 30 seconds that annoys the crap out of you.
Well, after ambushes were introduced I finally had some motivation to start the Skaven campaign. In act 5 I lost due to several rat assassin ambushes. I wish Perchang would finally let me allow to click on enemy equipment... I was a little bit disappointed that there was no message as I entered the room with the Grey Seer and he was missing during my second attempt altough I didnt manage to kill him on my first run. Finally I meet enemies which are halfway interesting and the game wont let me kill them. Its pretty annoying by the way that you cant sell party members which you used during your last quest. I got a better blood knight but couldnt sell my old one.
Bought all the DLC. I started a new save and havent been able to progress much in the new area as I my rear handed to me several times early on. Love the new dungeon designs Ive seen though, absolutely fantastic. The return of ambushes certainly adds a new element to the game as well. The new characters are great, especially the Ogre and the Wardancer. I like having some characters with mobility skills, they offer some room control options that didnt really exist previously. Overall I enjoyed this sequel when it first came out, but my enjoyment was soon hampered by the bugs. With the game seemingly working as intended again Im looking forward to diving back in. Personally I think the game is good as is, but like any game it wont be for everyone.
The new expansion is really great with awesome graphic, room layouts and enemies which I happen to love (Chaos Warriors are among my fav miniatures). But for me, the real game changer is the return of ambushes (which is active for everyone with the base game, so people who didn't like the game first may want to give the game another try). It was the only thing I really missed compared to the first game, because especially after level 4-5 the thrill of exploration was a bit lost. I would still prefer permadeath, but now danger is always there and the thrill of exploring in gloriously back (which, in my case, means extreme replayability). Even if they aren't a constant, just the fact you know they can happen changes everything for me, from the approach, the items you bring in, the formation. You can't really scatter besides doors anymore....because now if a couple of minotaurs drops between you and your healing aids, or you mages aren't properly protected...it's game over (or, after 1-2 unfortunate ambushes, you are at least in serious danger if you wasted healing potions). Add to this that new enemies hit a lot harder and require more strikes, and the thrill of dungeon exploring is multiplied. I wanted to restart the game from scratch, trying the new chars starting with the Warpriest, but couldn't resist so I ventured the new region with my old uber party. Before the update my Elven archer could kill everyone in one room in 1 turn or so. If something was still standing, chill wind would solve the problem. The two Empire guards were there just to block incoming arrows. Now despite using the same party (which I dropped because it was boring playing like that) I suffered serious injures 3 times already. Sure some dungeons are still a breeze, but you (me at least) play much more carefully, and this changes really a lot for me. I'm still convinced criticals shouldn't do more than 30% total HP of damage (no instakills), but the game seems a lot harder now (for the better). Cant wait to restart from scratch, pretty sure it won't be that easy this time to complete all campaigns. Can't imagine how my Elven Council party (all Elves, 1 archer, 1 dark mage, 2 lore masters) would do at level 1 in this new environment...but I can't wait to find out.
This is not merely a money waste, but support of one of a few remaining AAA non-F2P game makers. Thank you guys # Meanwhile, the first level of the new act is terrific. I really enjoy it. The war dancer offers new experience (I wonder why they say about the range of 3 in their Leap description which gives an 8-hex jump)
New quests encounters are truly great. Loved the 3 brothers. EDIT: Lord of Khorne is, hands down, the best WHQ1/2 campaign yet, hands down. My uber party just got MASSACRATED on quest 5 or 6, after a series of truly epic fights. Then the SPOILER guy came in and it was game over.... The new enemies, both generic ones and the special ones, are great.
Regarding the quests: I still remember some WHQ1 quests but all the WHQ2 quests felt the same... If you say its the BEST campaign so far... Well here you will find an old post from me: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showpost.php?p=4074651&postcount=661 Did they finally implemented interactive elements which WHQ1 offered? Regarding the enemies: Are there any spellcasters, do they use new tactics or effects beside disease/fire? What do you mean?
No. Only binary choices I rember so far are in the travel ambushes. So far I remember only one spellcaster (from the second campaign). I particularly liked ‘special’ unique enemies, like the 3 brothers. (Enemies with special weapons and resistances). I saw enemies with frost and regen too. I particularly like this campaign because of the mix of enemies, with high resistances so you can’t kill everyone from afar (at least with the weapons I use, i stay away from overpowered weapons or don’t like them) and that added with ambushes makes your characters clash in close combat way more often than before (and that’s what I like the most in these games). YMMV. Can’t wait to restart a new playthrough, I bet it won’t be as easy and I really can’t wait to try the new campaign with a level 4 party...will be a bloodbath. Some pics I took in last quest...started fine with tight formation then it went downhill with enemies that weakened my party. Then SPOILER came in and it was game over. Loved every second of it.
Had an Ambush travel event today that only allowed 1 character. Took the Ogre, and during the course of the event had 2-3 sepeate in dungeon ambushes! Had to line the mobs up and charge through them, but barely made it out. I love having ambushes back, they are adding a lot of unpredictability to the dungeon crawl experience. I was initially a bit disappointed on WQ2s release, mainly due to bugs and didnt play much past the first campaign. However, with all the foxes, changes, and added content Im having a blast and I think Im actually starting to enjoy it more than the first one! I love the character system and it really benefits from additional items/skills/etc as you can truely individualize heroes, even those of the same type to be quite specialized. The dungeon tile design is fantastic, as are the monster models. I really appreciate being able to see all the side quests on a map region rather than having to move around like in the first game. I think the main reason Im starting the prefer 2 over 1 is the combat though. Its great having unit placement and equipment types matter. Moving and attacking feels more organic. I loved WQ1, but it was really linear, and after getting used to the best ways to level and best gear to get, not much of a challenge. In WQ2 I still find myself getting beat down or barely clearing a dungeon. Great game, hope to see even more content!
Just got massacrated in what I think its the final quest. Didnt even see the final room, it was a bloodbath since I hit the first room, I really need to re assign all slots and have more healings and protections, at the expense of firepower. Those 20K gold I had sitting there from ages (stopped to level up at 11 because it was too easy before 2.0 update) were put to good use. I didnt even complete the campaign and I already cant wait to start from scratch. I wish you would unlock chaos champion as a playable character completing the campaign because they are TOO COOL. I know Im repeating myself, but ambushes do a world of difference.
2 questions please 1) is the giant “YOUR TURN” screen finally gone? 2) this guy with the plume hat in the screenshots, is he one of the four base characters? what is his role and what would you suggest as his replacement? (purely personal, but wearing plumes to a dark and bloody dungeon is to me like going poetry reading in full plate armor so i hate it) might finally pick it up depending on the answers
Did I miss the sale? Not showing price dropped on Australian store. Finally coming around to playing this.
