Game finally gets past game start story screen, but with a bug like the one mentioned above in it seems I'll wait to play even longer.

    Bummer.

Probably not stolen. Audio assets are often licensed out to many different movies and games for a fee. So it's quite common to hear the same audio file used in different mediums.

I think this is the way warriors are intended to be.

I mean that random warriors come with different potentials. Some are just stronger and better even at the same levels.

For example, the three Bloodknights I have attached here have different stats. The prototype that comes with the origin encounter quest has:

    HP of 35
    AP of 5
    Stats totaled 11

    The strong one has:

    1 extra AP
    5 points of extra Strength

Yes, he has a total strength of 8, which is insane. If you count

    1 AP/ 1 inventory slot/ 1 point of Stat/ 5 HP

as one level, then he has 3 levels for free! And the balanced BK has even more!

What is brilliant about the game is that the two better versions of BKs fit very different styles of playing. My personal favorite is to equip the strong one with the knuckleduster and the ring of strength. He then deals damage as high as 48HP per hit at a pretty frequent rate. The balanced one can use a nice shield, armor, and the ability Supernatural Horror to withstand tons of damage. And switch to a massive two-handed weapon on his turn.

That is just for the BKs. The High Elves also have three very different yet all powerful versions, named "the Swift", "the Valiant" and "the Flawless", respectively. It feels great to experiment with different presets of warriors.

[PLAY REPORT] Meister von Nichtmark's Travelling Diary - The Mages

    PLAY REPORT ALL MAGES GAME

So, inspired by a short discussion with Pitta, I took one of my existing games and made a group of 4 Highelf Mages and replayed the storyquests and sidequests.
One I already had, and I hired all I found. So I ended up with 5 of them, and let the level 4 warm the bench.
I got lucky and got two on level 2 with starting Speed 5 AND a Speed Ring each for another +3. I turned those two into my melee attackers (they conveniently came with Elven Swords). The other two (level 1 each) came with Staffs of Light and are my ranged department.
Talima and Thisanne are the rangeds, Malefic and Myriad melee.

Because I'm lazy I bought a Sunfire Gem (100g) and the Golden Crown of Athrazar (300g) in Altdorf. But I made them work for it, they needed to earn the money for these items first before they can use them.

Some other rules I made up:
When one of them gets to level 4, they can take the benchwarmer's equipment and swap her in if she turns out better (she didn't, still on the bench).
Once I got through more than half the storyline of Middenland, they were allowed to take skills and equipment from my existing party, if they have enough Gold to afford it.
For each story quest I complete, I can refresh one sidequest. Otherwise I take what is there.
For leveling up I don't optimise, I just take what I get.

I swapped the Elven Sword on one of the melee Mages for a Shortsword before diving in. Rest stayed as is.
Sidequests again are listed in the format "Difficulty, Monster, Reward", followed by how hard winning was, and extra rewards.

And here we go, Middenland first as usual:
Storyquest Bloody Water: medium win, Shortsword, Hammer, 50g. The bladepansies rock with 8 SPD total, lots of Deathblows.
The Shortsword goes to my 2nd blademage, I sold the Hammer and two Elfswords.

Storyquest Cryptic: easy win, Spear, 500g.
Deathknell: Bought 1x Shadowrobes 300g. I swapped the Robes and the Spear in to one of the melees.
Sidequest Hard Rats “Ring of Regeneration”: easy win, 150g.
Leveled up: Talima lvl2 +5HP, Thisanne lvl2 +1AP. The Regen Ring went to Myriad.

    Storyquest Puppetmaster: easy win, 190g
Hard Nurglings “Ring of Speed”: 550g, hard win. Minotaurs are a real threat, they can oneshot Mages. I needed several turns to kill one with focused fire from all 4 Mages.
Levelup: Malefic lvl 2->4 +5HP +1 Slot. Myriad to 3 +1 Slot. Malefic got a World Dragon Robe, Myriad a Leaping Gold Blade & a Torch.

Storyquest Monsterhunt: medium win, 275g, Greatsword (sold)
Medium Gor (+Minotaurs, surprise) Greatsword Fullplate: hard win, 500g, Sunfire Gem. Sold the Fullplate.
    Levelup: Talima to 3 +5HP, Myriad to 4 +5HP, Thisanne to 3 +1AP for a total of 7.
I gave the Rangeds 1x Chargeshot (Thisanne) and 1x Weaponmaster (Talima), and another Torch for my melee gals.

Storyquest “The Castle Gardens”: easy win, 150g, Stave
Middenstag Keep: bought Fiery Convocation 100g -> went to Talima after the levelup below.
Medium Cave Spider Torch: easy win, 425g
Levelup: Talima to 4 +1Slot. Thisanne to 4 +1Slot, gave her Monsterhunter to better deal with Minotaurs.

Storyquest “Reflections of Nurgle”: easy win, 100g, Stave
Storyquest “Amber Hammer” (NOTE: bring ranged defense): medium win, 225g, Dagger (sold)

By now the Torches didn't cut it anymore, so I swapped them for Staves. Should have done that way earlier, even at 4AP/attack the Staves are far superior. Malefic swapped her Shortsword for a Stiletto, Myriad her Regen Ring for a Healing Potion.
Levelup Thisanne +1 Slot - gave her the Regen Ring.

Medium Gor “Armor of Meteoric Iron”: hard win, forgot to note the rest.
Malefic got a -1 DEX injury from a random encounter with a Priest (I chose “stay put”).
Altdorf: Bought Averlorn Staff (900g) for Thisanne - I like it so far: limited use due to 5AP cost; but when I need it and it hits, it does good damage.
Hard Minotaur “Amulet of Morr”: easy win, Staves are really good vs Minotaurs. 50g, Weaponmaster.

Here I took a look at the sidequests in Reikland, and saw a lot of interesting stuff for the gals. So I moved to Reikland to farm sidequests:
Hard Giant Spider “Phoenix Blade”: easy win, 500g, Stubborn.
Levelup Malefic to 5 (to heal the injury) +1 Slot. Gave her Focus.

Medium Clanrats Merwyrm Robes: Easy win, 150g.
Dunkelberg: By now I needed more ranged attack power, so I bought the Sunfire Staff for 300g; it went to Malefic replacing her Sword. Talima swapped Fiery Convocation for a Speed Ring. Myriad swapped her Stiletto for a Spear - good choice so far.

Medium Giant Rat “Staff of Light”: easy win, 175g, Curing Potion.
Morlenfurt: Bought Apotheosis for 100g, went to Talima.
Medium Giant Rats Healing Potion: easy win, 550g
Ambush Pox Zombies: easy win, World Dragon Robes

NOTE: Here’s where the bug with the non-refreshing sidequests kicked in, so I am stopping for now. Will resume when that’s fixed.

    My current Mages:
Talima: Level 4, Slots 5, AP 5, HP 22, Str 1, Dex 3, Speed 3 (+3 from Speed Ring), Int 4. Staff of Light, Speed Ring, Weaponmaster, Apotheosis, Healing Potion.
Thisanne: Level 5, Slots 6, AP 7, HP 12, Str 1, Dex 3, Speed 3, Int 4. Staff of Light, Staff of Avelorn, Weaponmaster, Charged Shot, Healing Potion, Bandage.
Malefic: Level 5, 6 Slots, AP 5, HP 17, Str 1, Dex 3, Speed 5 (+3 from Speed Ring), Int 4. Stave, Staff of Sunfire, Robes of the World Dragon, Speed Ring, Focus, Healing Potion.
Myriad: Level 4, 5 Slots, AP 5, HP 17, Str 1, Dex 3, Speed 5 (+3 from Speed Ring), Int 4. Stave, Spear, Shadow Robes, Golden Crown of Atrazar, Speed Ring.

    Stuff on my to-buy list:
    Middenland:
    Altdorf: Book of Hoeth 1k
Bahrenfahre: Ring of Intellect, Khaine’s Ring of Fury
Middenstag Keep: Staff of Avelorn 900g, Robes of the Merwyrm 100g

    Reikland:
Auerswald: Cloak of Lileath 100g, Book of Hoeth 900g
Dunkelberg: Fiery Convocation, Stave, Khaine’s Ring of Fury

    Notes:
Fiery Convocation has too short range, didn't get much use out of it and swapped it out again after a few dungeons where it was basically dead weight.
Staves are the superior choice over Torches, especially when you fight melees stationary (as in "don't move much to get in range, let them come to you").
As you need quite a few slots for necessities (see below), it's much harder to get different damage types in sufficient numbers. Also, especially early on you are very much limited to Piercing for ranged and Slashing for melee. And ranged Crushing is *really* hard to find for Mages.

To really make the Mages work at higher levels (mid/late game), you need a lot of equipment slots to make up for their shortcomings: Several Potions and Bandages/Apotheosis are a must, as they are really squishy and at least one tends to drop down per harder dungeon. Weaponmaster to lower attack costs, Charged Shot for more damage, Armour to reduce squishiness; you get the idea.
They’re not like e.g. the Bloodknight who works perfectly fine with 4 Slots only (e.g. Helsturm Mace, Weaponmaster, armour, shield).

I have a questions about perk monster hunter(MH):
    - should it does double damage against putrid blight king (EC doesn't deal x2 with warhammer,EG with twilight bow deal 56/74 with 2 shots so seems it work)?
    - should MH stacking with ability of twilight bow (without MH twilight bow does 14/32 dmg against minotaur, with MH both shots are 22 (dex/speed/strenght are 5))?
    Anothers questions:
    - Vampiric Bite seems like bugged because i tried many times to use but don't get 5HP while atacking
    - Soul Stalker seems like bugged because i don't see dmg more then 5 against various enemys(INT= 7-9)
    - Power of Darkness doesn't deal crushing dmg
    - Sacrifical blade if missed anyway gives AP to friendly warrior

I'd just like to hear that this side quest generation bug is dealt with because I don't want to play and miss anything.

I'm pretty annoyed at this point; having let these folks hold my money for roughly two weeks now while I tide myself over with other developers' games in the meantime...

Has anyone else noticed that fire isn’t going away anymore? The effect disappears, meaning you can walk over burning spots without catching fire, but the animation is remaining for the duration of the dungeon.

What am I missing? This is a pretty boring game. Production values are excellent, but the gameplay is monotonous. The different warriors have only slight differences between them, some are more ranged and some are more melee, but that’s about it. No environmental elements, no concepts like cover or flanking, no powers, really.

Compare this to a game like Dungeons of Chaos which has the worst production values, admittedly or something truly outstanding like Heroes of Steel. Those are tactical RPGs. This is like checkers or something.

After playing a bit of WHQ1 and a lot of WH40K Deathwatch, I think WHQ games are very satisfying digital boardgame-like dungeon crawlers, and mostly just that. The combat is quite simple, and mostly depends on dice roll. There's no real tactics other than blocking, positioning, AP management, targeting priority and loads of RNG. WH40K Deathwatch have more interesting characters through normal play (and not through IAP), different loadouts, abilities, using the environment (line of sight to block vision/attach), etc. However, even Deathwatch is a bit bland on the RPG leveling/ customisation side of things. These games definitely canters towards a group (myself included), but if you are looking for deeper RPG or Turn Based Tactics experience, these games will not do much for you.

Sounds like the game simply isn’t for you. Personally I don’t find the game either boring or monotonous. The differences between warriors comes from their unique skill and gear load outs, which admittedly do not offer a huge variety immediately, but do become far more varied as you progress and collect more loot. Heck, once you really get to play with loadouts two of the same character can be extremely different.

I haven’t played the games you listed, but I’ve played lots of tactical RPGs, and the original WQ1 was one of my favourites, with WQ2 being an enjoyable experience so far despite some issues needing to be ironed out. To each their own though. I’m a fan of both the Warhammer lore and board game-style play, and thus would take this game over a lot of others easily.

I’m doing an experiment right now that white quests don’t work (yes it’s annoying).
So I’m playing my Elven Council save JUST playing the main quests without levelling up or buying anything, using just what I found.
It was all relatively easy till last quest, where I’ve been totally destroyed 2 Times and I’m really sweating to get past Minotaurs.
    Can’t wait to try Skavens.

It may be a bit extreme and maybe not for everyone, but as always with similar games in the past (WHQ and DW were the same), imho these games are at their best in these circumstances.

I’m absolutely loving that I must ponder every step, count every ‘square’ of distance, be absolutely sure I have bandages ready...every narrow point is a nightmare. Every chasm crossing is a bloodbath. Every pillar or barrel is a safe place I must defend at all cost.

As it happened for WHQ1 in hardcore and DW at the higher difficulty setting, you really appreciate every single skill/upgrade/decisions...even the ones that seemed a bit dull at the beginning.

Of course having completed the game twice already, I’m gaming the game to impose myself limitarions.....I would really love a hardcore mode where all this would be the standard.
For reference I found my game of the forever (original WHQ) pretty dull and boring at normal difficulty (while I simply LOVE hardcore one).

I also find this game totally underwhelming. I loved WHQ 1, but this game just doesn't have what made the original great. It's simply forgettable. The enemies are uninteresting: beastmen, spiders, rats and bats so far, with a few zombies and nurglings thrown in. Where are the warriors of chaos? Orcs? Daemons?

The heroes are uninteresting. There's no real difference between the two versions of each melee archetype, just different skins. One is a vampire, one is an empire soldier. One is a dwarf, the other is another flavor of empire soldier. When my characters level up they get a single point increase in one stat, and passive (or active for that matter) abilities must be farmed, which I wouldn't have a problem with, except most of them don't seem to work, and they aren't different enough to add any sort of flavor to either version of the characters.

Status effects: even if you block or evade a fire or disease attack, you still get the DoT? How is this even a thing?

I couldn't put the original down. I'm struggling to find motivation to keep playing the sequel.

I agree with what @Heavnsix said about the status effects, why would you get the DoT if u evade, block or the enemy misses. I think that is just bad design and even tho i managed to learn how to navigate thru the dmg and all its really annoying having to use potions to heal my heroes because they got into a fight with a diseased zombie that couldnt even hit them. They have a great game at core here but i think it still has some bits that need to be polished and ironed out to be truly outstanding.

To developers: What would make the game much harder is a simple move to make AI smarter: all enemy units should approach the group of adventurers together, to the maximum possible extent (to the degree they do not stack on burning tiles). Right now they get closer two by two (or so, depending on corridor width) and are taken out before giving a hit. The same is especially true with enemies whose weapons take many APs, like plaguebearers and perigords. Just step back and shoot at them again, repeat.

To all: A tip: I always place my ranged units in front of the door before entering a new room while keeping melee units aside. This lets them maximize the choice of ranged attack targets before melee heroes get in the way. I also enter each room with my High Elf Mage who casts a Fiery Convocation spell in front so that every creature that will be coming in for the adventurers gets burning.

A simple but a great little tip. Thanks #
It has made me rethink my standard, tanks to the front, range to the back, style of entering a room.

    10,000 gold missing

I purchased the 10,000 gold package for 4.99 but it never materialized. I click on restore purchases and it doesn’t show. In the game it never showed up. What happened to it? Thanks.

Do you have the most up-to-date version of the game?

There was a bug but it was apparently fixed in the last update.

WQ1 also had two expansions following release to add more enemies. Initially there were critters, goblins, orcs, and skaven. As for warriors of chaos and daemons, there are some of each in the later stages. Certainly would love to see more in the future though.

Not sure how you think the Empire Captain and the Vampire are all that similar. I suppose you could make them similar if you simply go with a base shield and sword combination, but the EC has access to a variety of firearms and area of effect attacks, special skills, as well as heavy-but-restricting armour, while the Vampire has the option to forgo melee altogether or mix it with magic and vampiric attack abilities, as well as has access to magic weapons that provide both range and statis effects. I don’t disagree that there are abilities and weapons that need to be fixed, but I don’t see how they can be dismissed as not adding a completely different role to a character.

I loved WQ1 as well, but characters and gameplay were far more linear than in WQ2.
