This has nothing to do with wanting everything easy are being an inexperienced player. Im no WHQ guru but my first play through has 72 hours and without spending a dime on gold I have 171K and recently maxed my last class with all the best gear. Ive sold all useless gear, not bought heroes or shop items in anticipation of finding loot, and Im constantly too broke to level up my characters, despite grinding. That being said, if you can beat the game on level 1, then they definitely need to rejig the xp system so youre not of the impression to be leveling. Heck, do away with leveling altogether then if its not required and remove the IAP gold.
One thing that could help out those find the gold grind too much, bring back rescue missions. In WQ1, missions in which you needed to rescue royalty generally rewarded a decent chunk of gold rather than items. Could be a good option to have when deciding what to do on the world map.
Start with Middenheim, if only because it gives you some extra equipment and a Bloodknight. Id at least proceed till you get the Helsturm Mace. However, you can win at least the first Reikland quests pretty much right from the start.
I dont know. I remember the very same complaint about the first WHQ, just because there was iap gold there too (totally unnecessary there too). Same with Hunters. I understand the 72 hours playthrough, you meant the first WHQ. Im not certain because I didnt put that many hours in a single playthrough, but I guess that after 72 in WHQ2 you will be sitting on a pile of gold too. Anyway, in my experience you get 200-400 gold per dungeon here, which imho is fine. Let you level up 2-3 level 1 chars, or 2 level 2 chars. 3-4 dungeons to level up a single level 10 char (which is WAY OP anyway). 2-3 dungeons to get a top tier item. Personally I think its perfectly fine, being broke after levelling up is right imho. Game is out not even since a week and many people are already level 10, which is way beyond game difficulty. To get there with the first game, you need at least 20-30 hours (level 8, cap). How many gold per dungeon would you prefer? What do you think would be fair to be able to afford after a sigle dungeon?
The Mad Mages Just a quick line that I started with a 4 Mage game from an existing save, replaying missions with them: Going good so far, 2 of them came with Speed Rings, making them quite deadly in melee. In other news, I can now confirm that the Helsturm Mace is unique; I didnt get a second one after replaying that story dungeon.
re Gold: In my experience, the problem isn’t that you don’t get enough gold in general, but that it’s too random. I walked out the second story dungeon with anything from 50 to 500 gold, for example. And other dungeons aren’t much different. Even getting a good hero early on can make a huge difference, but again is totally random. @Perchang: I’d cut down on the randomness a bit, and make the rewards progress a bit more “natural”. If the first few dungeons only gave 50-100g each would be ok. But after, say, the Helsturm storyquest, things should gradually increase. I think 1000g is a good number for the final storydungeon of a region. And the sidequests should be adjusted accordingly too, maybe something like (highest level of a hero) x (random 50-100) gold. However, as Pitta mentioned, level 10 is definitively overkill already, and you can go higher than that without too much grind.
Meanwhile last night I found a sword that gives you a bonus against demons. Demons? Hmmmmmmmm...... Also found a sorceress sword with freeze, which is super cool (and not OP like chill wind).
I saw that demon sword too, pretty sure thats a bonus against Nurglings and other Plague demons. And the Sorc Freezesword is quite overpowered, too I already suggested somewhere upthread that it should be toned down a bit.
The best thing is when I use it that I forgot and I always, ALWAYS, step on the on the frozen tile and freeze someone. Actually....freeze spell/weapon would be fairer if frozen tiles would be random on the board with high chance to freeeze one of your chars as a malus to use it.
Im loving this game, right now im rolling with an Empire Captain, Greatsword, Dark elf sorceress and wood glave guard. So far so good and been crushing the middenheim campaign. One question tho, i still dont get how disease works exactly. Before entering the crypts full of zombies, i dropped 300g on an imperial plate for my captain which also gave 40% resist on disease. But when im going thru the dungeon and the zombies attacked him, no matter what the tile would be diseased and the captain would be diseased as well. Even when he deflects or zombie just misses, i think he got diseased every time, and the tile he was on as well. Is this a bug maybe? Or am i just not seeing something? Apart from that im having so much fun.
@shadowhawx: I didnt try the Empire Plate yet, so I dont know. What I can say is: if Disease is a problem, you have a problem ... or like a very challenging game I never pay much attention if my folks got diseased or not, as it made almost no difference for their damage output. Once I left a Captain or Bloodknight (cant remember which one) on a diseased tile and he was still murdering Plague Demons left and right.
Got my all Elf team together. Level 2 GG bought for 1700 gold with Asrai Longbow-3 volleys of arrows into 3x3 area Level 1 GG Level 1 DE Level 1 HE While doing White Quests to raise cash I acquired Weapon Master, Apotheosis and Fiery Convocation-fire to a 3x3 area. So now off to campaign in Middenland.
Just learned that I can equip a new weapon over a current weapon and keep the new weapon in the same slot as the original. Found that out by changing out a Long Bow for a Bow of Loren.
I'm looking to pick up either this or WHQ1 this week and I play on iPhone 6S with IOS10. Based on the current version of WHQ2, which game would people recommend? I only got time to play 1 on a casual basis, so I'm not looking to get both games atm. I've been following loosely on the release week for WHQ2 and got some mixed messages.
Might want to try WHQ1 as it runs fine, has a journal that explains things and easier inventory management other than having to turn your device. WHQ2 has some bugs causing some people to have crashes. No journal feature and a bit more button pushing for inventory. That said I really like this new one but I have been running without crashes so far.
Thanks for the feedback. In terms of the gameplay, are there big improvements (better combat system, enemy variety, more skills, etc) in this one, or mostly similar?
