I can certainly help clarify the confusion you're having with the numbers you're seeing - those are actually damage numbers rather than score! ;)

We are looking at ways to make the scoring mechanics more obvious in the game. In the meantime, I have a few tips that I'm sure most of you are already aware of, but in case you're not...:

    - Your multiplier in the top-left hand side of the screen builds up with each enemy slain or scenery object destroyed. This begins to decay if you don't blow something up within a few seconds. This freezes during periods of non-controllable interaction (such as charging in melee, cutscenes etc.)
    - Blow up scenery objects to keep your multiplier rolling. You should always be destroying or slaying something! Experiment shooting at scenery objects between waves to learn what you can blow up.
    - You'll want to kill enemies in quick succession to receive streak bonuses, with the top one being a 'Massacre' bonus.
    - You may want to experiment with the timing of letting certain APC units deploy troops vs instantly blowing them up as the troops they spawn can be helpful for linking together kill streak bonuses.
    - Killing a melee opponent with a critical strike awards an 'Execution' bonus which is pretty significant.
    - Try and finish missions with as much health as possible as quickly as possible, as this awards a time and health bonus.

Hope you don't mind, yoo - I've picked out the things you requested a response to here:

    1. A 'skip' button for quests is something that we've considered. It's relatively quick to adjust the quest balancing, so that's why we've done this for the time being.
    2. This sort of functionality would probably form part of a wider pass on the forging system; that isn't planned for 1.5 and would perhaps be more likely to appear alongside multiplayer. We need to be careful doing this that we don't intimidate new players with a system that's too complex! ;)
    3. Regarding responses to individual questions and bug reports, I just thought I'd let you know that we do read all of these posts and nothing is ignored and I wish I had time to feed back on everything on a point-by-point basis (hence the 'broad strokes' approach taken last time). This said, please do keep the ideas and bug reports coming through, this has been tremendously useful. Whilst I can't promise we'll act on every point, I'll at least try and feed back about these issues wherever possible.

Thanks Johnny, but your scoring explanation is just basic game mechanics. Damage vs score makes sense. So are yellow damage crits? You never tell us any of this stuff. The top left number I mentioned isn't the multiplier in the shield icon, it's the number immediately above that on the white background. You guys have never clearly explained most of what we see. Even Strength and Toughness has to be seen in an occasional pop up message. There's no master glossary/tutorial for what's going on.

I regularly drive all that score bonus stuff very high but never get close to the scores that the Event winners always have. This is the biggest beef most of us have. How are the event winners getting 3-6 times the scores of regular players? It's not possible to start out at 8x and keep it constant. So where are all their points coming from?

I'd like to echo his sentiments here. Not long ago I complained about apparent cheating/hacking and lack of policing. Most of us experienced players would have grinded through all those missions, patrols, forging and events. Most of us would have dropped quite a bit on IAP and are maxed out at level 50.
    .

I'm pretty sure most of us 50s would've experimented on the things you mentioned already on our patrol grinds. Such as waiting for APC and Dropships to unload troops, going into melee instead of a fast kill, hitting almost everything in sight, down to spacing the destruction by the second. Moreover, most of us 50s are already pretty much invulnerable as we grind the patrols and we finish with health intact. Yet out patrol grinds are hardly near the high scores of the events.

I've rarely hit over 200++ on events and am truly puzzled how the top can be 500++

How can we be assured that you are policing cheats and hacks?

I constantly make it into the top 10% on events but sometimes the top scores are still way beyond my imagination. However, I think the incredible scores are not the only reason that makes us feel being cheated. The current scoring mechanism is like a blackbox, and there's no videos out there explaining at least part of it. I think if there is a "replay" button to show the replay(video?) about how the top score is made everyday will help. And that will serve as a good explanation on the scoring mechanism as well as how to play with it.

Plus, may I ask when is the fix on forge quests coming? I've been hit by more than a dozen of forge quests (daily, weekly, loyalty) in less than 2 weeks, and that's really maddening me.

I'm not actually as upset about the difficulty of understanding event scoring, Johnny, although I think folks are right to point out how much your reply sounds like "get better at Freeblade lol." I've been doing these things in large part for a while, and the best I usually swing is Master; given that I never pay for extra event plays, that's about as well as I personally expect to perform.

What actually annoys me most about events these days, and makes the cheating discussion feel like a bit of a red herring, is how top-heavy the prize distributions have become...between the shrinkage of the Legend cutoff from the top 100 players to the top 50 in daily events and the top 5(!) in tiered events, it frankly feels like the cool kids who got in on the game early are pulling up the ladder behind them so nobody else can climb it.

Couple that with the fact that the vast majority of people playing a daily event are only going to see a handful of ore or a few coins of gold plus some blessings, and events quite literally start to seem like a system of, by and for the 1 percent. I think they'd feel a bit more useful if the prize pools were shifted a bit...I've never understood, for instance, why the top daily finishers also need to get 80 gold when they're getting A UNIQUE HIGH-QUALITY LEGENDARY WEAPON. Give 'em an emblem/livery or a crate of revives instead, and shift the gold awards one slot down apiece: Hero gets 80, Master 50, Exemplar 10 and Competent 5, with a patrol quantity of ore (30,000 or so) for Novice. That's just an initial suggestion, since I still think placing in Legend should immediately award the day's legendary weapon, but it'd at least help if four full tiers of daily event rewards didn't feel like calculated insults compared to the top finishers.

I really haven't seen much change to forge quests just yet...they still pop up far too often, require far too much time to fulfill, and offer far too little by way of reward. If you'd like to get new players forging stuff, that's fine, but perhaps we can get these things level-gated so we stop seeing them after level 10 or so? Just because the tutorial mission is useful to new players doesn't mean top-level players should be subjected to it on a regular basis, after all...

Fair enough -- if I hear you right, this means we can't expect forge bonuses for at least a month and a half (with versions dropping monthly, and 1.4 not yet out to be followed by 1.5). Assuming there are level-cap increases associated with both of those, by the time I can buy specific forge characteristics the wargear I've been holding with which to do so will be obsolete. Short version: I should just forge with this stuff and pray for the best, because the opportunity cost of waiting that long is even worse than the opportunity cost of being stuck with bad items.

On that note, a free-legendary tip from my own Forge experiments: Nekkruncha No More's campaign mode readily coughed up three level-280 orange gauntlets during my replays to three-star it. Put those into the Forge with three purples, two level 270s and a level 300, and you've got a level-350 orange wargear recipe with no major items lost...regrettably, the mission still displays gauntlets as a "low chance" award, but it feels like it's down to pitiful odds because I haven't gotten another one in a dozen attempts yet.

I'll be sure to do that, for my part. Perhaps I sound overly cynical here, because the patrol loot nerf has been focusing my attention on events, but if we can get some supply of Forgeable items again it'll be good to experiment with what the thing now seems capable of making.

For the moment, it feels like people could seriously use those blessings fixes, namely storage for the various ribbon types and a lockout on receiving Boost XPs at max level. Oh, the things I could get done if I could use Boost Knight Powers when I wanted to rather than when the game did...

    Unbalanced gameplay

I just wanted to comment on the unbalanced nature of the game.

I'm a 38 year old occasional gamer that's been playing this game on and off for the past couple of months. I'm now at level 50 and I'm finding the game quite boring and likely won't continue playing unless things are fixed in the next version. Certain parts are too easy and others are ridiculously hard. I can regularly get Legend on patrols with 100% health and kills while playing with my left hand (I'm right handed) while I scratch my wife's head with my right hand, yet I only occasionally do better than Competent on the events (best I've done is Exemplar). As a result, the patrols are boring because they're so easy (and quiet repetitive, since the levels don't seem to change much) and events are boring because there's no point no matter how hard I try since they're so hard. Something is seriously wrong with the way you've programmed this. Please fix it.

I also can't get my Feeeblade game to connect to the server and my phone is not JB. However I noticed that at the time my game stopped connecting to the server Game Center also quit giving me its "Welcome Back" message when I opened the game. I went to my Game Center app and when I clicked on Friends, Games, etc it gave me an "Unable to download date due to connectivity issues". Won't load data for any of my Game Center games or welcome me back when I open them. Houston, I think we found the problem, just don't know how to fix that one.

This game needs work on so many levels

I was excited about it so thought features would come but we don't even get fixes

I would rather be able to play my saved game on both devices but instead we got Apple Pencil features

    Still no multiplayer

My "Gauntlet" is a POS level 80 weapon (PM'ed devs with device ID-no fix)

The game still has Energy System for Repairs LMAO-there is certainly NO incentive to purchase a thing in this game

I will still casually play as the game is really just a grind on my current legend equipment. I was excited about this game but not so much any more.

Add controller support, touch input is too much effort to put into the game at this point for me (iPad pro, stand, controller)

Is anybody seeing this? This website has gone to crap. Pagination is no longer working on IE in Win7 and I'm writing this with Safari on my Mac. There's been no posts in days and the page count is still 69?!?

    Freeblade doldrums

I'm still here, at any rate -- I just haven't had much to say, because Johnny's been quiet and we've got no ETA on 1.4 with its new means of acquiring wargear. Basically I'm at 40 million ore and counting, grinding patrols to reinforce the stockpile, with very little else to show for it save some random purple items in the 230s with pathetic 3-percent crate-finding bonuses...they don't hold a candle to my real hardware, but I run with 'em in the absence of anything better.

Honestly, I can't understand why scaling patrol loot back up to what it was at level 45 can't be done as a simple hotfix...it'd at least give us something to do besides grinding patrols and the occasional series of Green Tide runs to defeat forge quests. (By the by, when I said all forge quests should be five items or less? Make that three items.)

I don't think Freeblade is ruined or anything, since the core game mechanics remain sound, but the fact remains that there's not much reason to play the game right now. Nothing save buying out salvage runs yields competent loot for an average player, events seem to revel in displaying weaponry we'll never win because the Legend tiers have been so drastically slashed and there's no clear description of the scoring mechanism, and none of the things we've heard developers say they like from our suggestions have yet materialized. Hell, I'd buy a crate-finding livery if one worth a damn were on sale, but none of the really good ones can be bought.

    Inspirational Presence Help?!

I've played these levels many, many times now. I can't do better than 78 out of 89 killed. I've done everything I can think of to find those last 11 bad guys. I've shot my heavy weapon and missile launcher at just about every part of that level, I've waited until all APCs have emptied out, I've blasted into and on top of each of the bunkers after everyone appeared dead. Still can't find those last 11 guys.

Would someone please tell me how to find them before I lose it?

    TIA.

In short, don't sweat it -- there are tons and tons of missions which have enemies in the count that you can't kill. I've shot everything in Green Tide and I'm still short kills, unless the game's counting random scenery as enemies...I've seen that in patrols, when a rocket-launcher salvo sometimes auto-targets a tank trap with nothing behind it.

There's also an abundance of targets in the Special Overkill Mission, which I routinely revisit to hit infantry-kill or Massacre targets for quests; the best I've managed is about 150 kills of 300 total enemies, with the rest presumably displayed in the initial cutscene then forgotten. Pretty much everyone I see in that run dies, honestly...

    Abysmal support

I've registered here just so I could convey my unhappiness through another medium, and maybe get Pixel Toys to pay some attention to their paying clients (pun intended).

Ever since 1.3.1, which was supposed to resolve issues for some users, the game has become unplayable for me - it simply crashes at the opening screen. No amount of reboots, closures, reinstalls and etc solves anything, but the main insult added to injury is the way Pixel Toys handle support requests.

They only reply when they release a new version, saying well try the new version. Calling them out on Twitter is useless too - they again reply only when a new version is out.

Well, guess what - the new version didn't help either (which i've mentioned both in the support ticket and on Twitter).

Now, if I didn't spend any money on IAP, then tough luck - its a free game. As I did, and I did quite a bit, I believe it is simply an unfair business practice to ignore client requests and not provide any support - I haven't been able to use the game for nearly a month.

I'll be posting back with some updates and news as soon as I can but first things first, to respond to any support queries....:

Hi Chęrish - unfortunately I've not received a PM from you as of yet. Please PM me your Player ID and I'll get this looked into ASAP.

Hi drsavant, sorry to hear that the new version has been giving you some grief. In the short term, you might be able to play the game if you temporarily sign out of Game Center - give this a try! Failing this, could you please PM me what version of the game you're on, what version of iOS you're on, what iOS device you're using and as much information as possible about the crash; we can then see if we can recreate the problem you're having.

I've tried the Game Centre trick early on, when 1.3.1 caused the issue - no dice.

    Check pm for the details.

Both yourself and Cherish should have replies.

I can also now share with you news about the next few updates to the game - this should be good news for most of you!

First off, 1.4 will be out tomorrow. Highlights include:
    - Rebalanced quests! With the new update you should see reduced numbers of forge quests, and fewer items required to complete them.
    - A new daily reward system to help you acquire more level-appropriate wargear.
    - All new lightning cannon weapon!
    - More end-game objectives in Chapters 9 and 10.

I can reveal some of the highlights of 1.5 - no release date as of yet; once I know this with certainty, I'll let you know!

    - The story will continue in 1.5 with Chapter 11.
    - New enemy type that's closely related to the story of Chapter 11...!
    - We'll be looking into your concerns regarding the patrol system - particularly with respect to difficulty and rewards.
    - We're hoping to better explain the scoring system to players.

I still have been unable to get the game to sync across devices

is there any way to force a sync?

i submitted a support ticket a month ago

    ------
The iPad has the latest save but the phone never picks it up
I uninstalled and re downloaded on the phone
But am stuck at level 1 there

Every time I start the iPad it recognizes the phone save but the phone isn't picking that one up

Either the iPad isn't writing the save to the cloud or the phone isn't reading it

    ----
as a test i logged on the my ipad this morning
    started freeblade
it came up with level 1 in the cloud, lvl 20 on device

chose lvl 20 , played for a bit, quit and restarted,
it didnt come up with any conflicts, so what was in the cloud matched the device

removed and reinstalled the game on my phone
same gamecenter icloud ID and facebook

had to replay the into again
    logged in to FB
guit, restarted and it takes me back to the the level 1 game without saying there is a version in the cloud

then logged in to the ipad again, and once again there is a lvl 1 game in the cloud

seem like the iphone is writing to the cloud, but not reading newer saves

i looked and both devices are set with automatic time settings

not resolved as of 1.4 with the same behavior

    thanks

    Downloaded 1.4.

I don't see any new objectives for Chapters 9 and 10. I can't forge the new weapon either - there is no such option.
