Really not. I'm L37 and, whilst I've spent c.£12 on two early game equipment IAPs, those really haven't had a long-lasting impact. I'm not using any of those pieces of equipment now, though they were enjoyably overpowered for a time. There are timers - one for "damage" repairs, and a second to recharge "patrol" missions (which are a small subset of available missions - storyline missions are always available). Tbf, I've never once used a timer reset, perhaps because I'm playing in occasional moments. Timers haven't been an issue at all - they recharge (imo) generously, take a good bit of play to degrade, and can be recharged (partly) by watching 30s videos. It just isn't pay to win in any sense. I'm L37 in a game with an L40 cap, don't think I've bought any IAPs since I was somewhere in the low 20s, and there's no sense in which I need any. There certainly isn't a difficulty ramp or endlessly scaling IAPs, as in something like Need for Speed. The game can be completed - and completed easily - for free. And IAPs are just, tbf, a small boost. If you want to play constantly for hours on end, as Mr Caps Lock suggests, the game's working model may be a frustration. If there are any other games you're playing and can switch to, or you're mostly looking to play in c.20-30 min bursts, there's literally no issue whatsoever.
Agree with Quoad. I put this game in a "pay as much as you want" category. I spent £10 (both £5 600gold purchases separated a week apart). About 100 of this went on repairs so I could play constantly (because the graphics and gameplay are so good and gave me a real rush). I spent the remainder on an extra forge slot, which I've barely used, a supply drop, which was useful at the time, and a few salvages. None of these were really necessary and were bought at the end of the week when I got a bit fed up grinding. I have completed this game and am happy with what I've spent. I can imagine Warhammer 40k fans being happy spending £20 up on it for different skins etc. I reached max level 40 ages ago. Was going to delete the game but dev says there may be more to come. Soon found myself coming back and am now playing patrol missions every day and also some loyalty quests. It's difficult going back to other games- even Infinity Blade III looks lame to me now. Luckily I've just got Metro 33wars which is panning out quite well gameplay-wise. You can earn plenty of Ore and gold with the various quests each day and the (short) ads. The only real limiter in this game is that the Quests become blocked when you get Forge Quests. This can cut off the best supplies of gold and Ore, and in my experience you cannot compete a quest by forging with Ore so you HAVE to lose some of your gold to unblock the quest. Whether this was intended I don't know but if it was- they've got to make SOME money. I might just add that I actually enjoy grinding games with good graphics which is an advantage.
Oh! Forgot about that. My first £5 iap (starter pack?) came with a skin that gave +3% bonus ore, iirc. Haven't seen another one that gives better at a remotely sensible price, so haven't bothered  Tbh, I had one of these that frustrated me for a week or so. "Forge 10 uncommon or better items." Knew what I had to do but couldn't bring myself to - grind an early level for cheap / low wg parts then forge with them. I found the 4th level of the 1st chapter (the greenskins are coming?) a cracker here - gave me 1-3 item chests every time, c.6-8 wg. Once I gave up procrastinating and got on with the grind (deterred by an earlier experience of trying to grind chests from L1-3 of ch1), managed to complete the quest in c.2 gameplay sessions. Most of the items were sufficiently abysmal for rushing them to be free; none would've taken more than c.5 minutes to wait out. Think I spent c.10 gold to get through the ones that weren't free, mostly because I'd had the quest lingering so long I wanted shot of it
I did wonder about doing that but never got around to it. Actually although I have completed the game, my Game Progress Quest is still stuck halfway through a Forge 10 items quest from about two weeks ago!!!!
The Green Tide, srsly. If my experience wasn't massively unrepresentative (and you have 5-10 spare gold), you'll blast through it in no time flat. Obvs each time you forge summat, you can then re-forge with your winnings. Tbh, I think that's where most of my gold rushing costs came from (sometimes, one of my items was as high as 16 or even 30wg!!!!!)
Repairs I'd also like to express my dislike for the current repair mechanics. Others are correct, in that if you don't mind irregular playtimes, the repair system isn't an issue. However, if you are trying to play continuously, it (in effect) turns into "pay by the half hour". And I'm counting the free repairs that are available here. In my opinion, if someone reaches the third level "loyalty" rank, they shouldn't have to deal with the repair timer at all. Give the second level "loyalty" ranks the current third tier bonus. Alternately, they could unlock a mode where repair costs are ore based instead of gold. I just think that a game that (in effect) encourages you to go play something else every half hour has failed in that particular aspect of the game.
Dammit. Ranked 129th in today's event. *Convinced* I can do better. But my last three (!) runs have been confounded by: a crash a text message from t'wife arriving DURING AN EXEXUTION BONUS ATTEMPT; and a low power warning... Arriving DURING AN EXECUTION BONUS ATTEMPT. Properly tempting to spunk 80g on another attempt. Just not sure I can convince myself tho Have yet to place in the top 100 :hmm:
Nicely done. I'm still working on getting past the top 10 percent line. (In general. Today's I'm in the 60 percent area)
i wish this game had stick targetting controls or something that wouldn't force you to see your finger all over the screen instead of all the awesome graphics and blowing up going on...
I agree. I also think you propose a great alternative as well as incentive by suggesting loyalty III's should not have to wait for repairs (maybe they can add higher loyalty to reach to achieve this). This still keeps the mechanic in the game but it can be omitted by Loaylty which in a sense is an acheivement reward. At the very least, give us an option to pay a flat fee to not have to repair, as some games offer that to allow players that would like endless play. Or subscription, although I would personally not pay for subscription, it does offer an alternative for endless play while keeping the mechanic in the game for the players the are ok with shorter gaming sessions. I do well with managing my time, play, and repairs. The game seems to offer fair gold rewards but in the end, you would have to use gold to play as much as you wanted and if you did not have gold you would have to buy it or wait (i.e. Do something else or play something else).
It's mostly, imo, about identifying best use of your given weapons and sustaining multipliers (destructibles). Imo, today's centres largely on heavy weapon for rhinos, stubber for (nearly all) infantry / bikes, and parsimonious use of your carapace weapon. And (today) defending pretty much every blue shield that comes up And grenades It is a chaotic one. Reckon that ^^^ should be enough for top 10% today. Particularly if you know what's coming. And additionally - for top 100 - nailing both execution bonuses with a *8 multiplier would (I reckon!) do it. Weaken with heavy weapons, one-strike execution for ideal time bonus. I reckon everyone in the top 200 must've done pretty much they. The cutoff point is who gets what wrong, and who can afford (or is willing to risk) One More Try... I've given up at top 1%, cos I just can't guarantee the rewards of top 100, and the risk (80 gold) is now too big.
Loyalty III is basically £50, right? For a game that several of us have (basically) completed in 2-3 weeks? That is one helluva price to be willing to pay!
Is the $6.99 newbie offer for 3-piece legendary equipment necessary, and/or worth it? The offer ends in 5 hrs, will it pop up in the future, and/or will better offers eventually pop up?
Assuming there wasn't this greyed out button that says "multiplayer" and "coming soon", I would agree. I guess really the operative word is "willing" and or if you Completed the Game at level 40 for example. The point is that clearly more development and gameplay options will be added, and if the Repair mechanics carry over into those new elements, I'd like an option to not have it. So no, I personally do not feel $50 is "one helluva price" for a good game with future development that I can play as much as or whenever I want (without timers)
Other offers pop up as you level. While the pop up gear can help you level up a little quicker, it is not required. In most cases if you wait it out, you will find better gear in drops or in quest completions. If I could go back I would have held off on the pop ups because I found better gear before I could even max the stats on pop up gear and no longer use it. The higher tier pop ups are more substantial in terms of longevity. Here is a page that has my findings on it (without stats) so you can get an idea if you would like, to see http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=277203
I paid for it, and enjoyed it. It'll give you an early game boost. The wargear you get will be pointless in a few days' time, but will provide you with raw materials to forge epic (purple) parts going forward. Worth bearing in mind that you'll also be offered another "value pack" of exactly the same price after, erm... After you complete one of the early chapters. I can't remember what it contains - 3 pieces of epic kit, and 600 gold, I think? The two "value packs" after that are entirely duff, imo. Abysmal value compared to what you could buy as separate IAPs. (There are 4 in total, I think. Which unlock after completing various chapters). I don't regret buying either of the two early game ones, though. And I'm still using the livery I got from one of them (perhaps the starter pack?! It is a top notch livery - hard to get a better one, assuming you're not looking to arbitrarily spunk gold) Edit: also worth highlighting something a fair few of us didn't notice until someone pointed it out a coupla pages back: blue items tend to be more powerful than purple. For whatever reason. Tbh, sometimes they can match epic n all. Wg rating and colour certainly isn't a clear guide to which items are "best"! (Still don't regret buying the IAPs ) Properly not sure how much of a tactical purchase they were, tho
I'm not completely convinced you can finish this game without buying anything. At least you'll need to do bloody lot of grinding. I haven't bought anything and also have avoided ads most of the time and to open the last chapter would require me to get 39 more patrol medals and I can't survive any one of the three patrol missions available at the moment (there's only three because as I haven't bought anything I don't have any loyalty). I'm on level 29 with wargear level around 1600 and can't even forge much better gear than I have at the moment. Maybe if I grinded more levels I'd get enough HPs to survive all the bombs that get thrown at me in the current patrol missions, but I don't think it's worth the effort. Most missions in latest chapters have already been quite short and boring but still required you to constantly update your gear to even get to play them.
So you just want to play through the whole game and not pay anything? How do you expect them to make more games or eat for that matter? Wow.
