    RNG is all preset

First of all, thanks to brother Pitta I was able to accomplish several things:

    1) corrupted my game data on both my iPad and my iPhone
    2) uncorrupted the data on my iPad
    3) transferee my game save from my iPad to my iPhone so I can play on both devices
    4) discovered that the RNG results for all card packs is predetermined before you even open them, thus making them "not so random"

After successfully transferring my game data to my iPhone I realized I had one unopened pack from heroic. I opened the pack on both devices and low and behold... The results were the same!

I then sold some cards on both devices to get enough RP for a new pack, opened them and SURPRISE... Exact same cards...

Okay, let's keep going. On one device I sold more cards and on the other I did some grinding so both had over 100 RP and bought a pack on both devices. The result... Same cards again....

    Not so random....

This leads me to believe that all packs you are going to open are already predetermined long before you open them and you can do nothing to change the results. That feels "not so random" to me when the outcome is already known to the game.

This makes me wonder about players who get nothing but amazing cards and others who get nothing but junk. Will the "lucky" ones continue to pull awesome cards while the "less fortunate" continue getting mounds of trash? Could this also explain why some players have a half dozen Sternguards and no other tier 4 cards while others have no Tier 4 marines at all?

The only thing random about the RNG is it randomly dictates every single pack you will open throughout the rest of the game, but if that's already determined is it really all that random?

    Wow, interesting find.

It is still random though; it is just randomly determined when you first begin your game instead of when you obtain each pack.

    bug with game

Howdy all. Went to redo an old mission (prior to doing veteran difficulty) - the spawning pool mission where you bomb the pools.

I moved my team in preparation of taking the second or third pool and the game crash's when the tyranids take there turn.. tried resetting the device and the game but nothing.. every time it crashs to desktop (running ipad mini running 8.1.1 IOS)

You are a genius! Just a few hours ago I opened up a pack and it gave me the T4 Powerfist Xenos Crusher and the T4 Pistol Murder. They were the exact same stuff I got from my very first pack! I knew it was NOT random! Thanks to you brother now we are sure of it.

Btw, is it possible that we might get different loots from reinstalling the game and transferring the save file between devices and ?

Interesting find indeed. This does seem the most likely that there is some roll when you start your game that will predetermine what and when you get items. It is definitely still random in the sense where we all are getting different pulls at different times.

While I've had great luck in the assortment of marines (6 unique of 7 pulls), I've had terrible "randomness" from acquiring t4 items from packs. Not counting the t4 items from completing missions of course, I've only gotten 5 different items out of 9 t4 pulls. I've received 3 Murders and 3 Angelis Choirs out of those 9. Probably 2 of the worse T4 weapons to get lol.

    re Bug

Well.. I found a work around.. it shows the enemies loading msg for about 3 seconds before crashing, thankfully it gives me enough time to select pause then abort mission.. I die.. (losing between 1.5 - 17k xp) but its better than having to uninstall and losing everything *doh*..

Is it determined when you GET the pack? I think he said he was grinding on ONE account than transferring data aka he bought a pack than transferred save data.

or... Did you grind on both accounts / grind on one account and transfer data BEFORE buying the pack. I think the rng is chosen as soon as you get the pack, all three cards are determined.

If not that's really odd. Why would they make it so when your account is created all packs have been number generated so all packs that are opened follow an account order.

its determined BEFORE you get the pack. As I mentioned, i tried alternate methods on different devices to get RP. On one device i did grinding, on the other I simply sold cards until I had 100 RP on both. I bought card packs on both. Both gave me the same cards.

I doubt it... as I mentioned, I corrupted my game and my backup of it so I had to re-install the game, back it up again and then move over some files. So I essentially did just what you described, reinstalled and transferred and had the results I just spoke to

My bad. I missed the details when I first read your post. So it's in the save file then. I guess there's no way to work around this? Maybe stock up some RP in hope that a future update would randomize it?

    I have no idea...

I was told not to open packs because of the issue with people getting all Tier I cards and no Tier II or better. Assuming they fix that in the update, that would have to "re-randomize" what we can get from packs as CURRENTLY, the game has already decided we are going to get packs with all Tier I cards.

I hope they do something, I am sick of getting the same cards and I hope there isn't a "loop point" where you just continue to get all the cards you've already gotten over and over again.

I'm going to continue playing around with this ; )

500+ base damage and accuracy with over 200% chance to crit... Not a bad bug to have.

I'm fine with all draws being randomized when you first start the game.

If it was determined right at the draw you could save up some packs, backup your your device, open the packs and just load the backup if you didn't get the cards you wanted. :)

I found the same thing: your packs are determined before you even buy them.

I'm also thinking that when you start the game, you're put on a specific roter of which cards you can receive. I.e. Not everyone can find everything.

It's making me pretty angry to think that it's possible, no matter how much you spend or how many packs you open, that there's some items or marines you won't be able to find.

    Hmmmmm.
First I would like to say that I took the time to investigate how to transfer the saves to....well....actually transferring the game.
As the game has no iCloud and I happen to travel for work, I wanted to continue playing on my iPhone when away from my iPad.
It works for me, if anyone has problems just let me know where he is stuck, maybe I can help.

That said, the fact that the stream of cards you draw is randomly predetermined before you actually draw them, looks still totally random to me....and a brilliant idea by Rodeo preventing people from tampering with save.

I still wish for more higher tier anything and more Space Wolves tough :p

Also, it makes no difference which pack you open. What you'll get next is what you'll get next. So even if you scroll through your cards and open up the last pack you got, it doesn't matter. What you drawer next is already determined.

Sorry you're getting ignored, Deadhiel, but I'm glad you found a solution. It sucks to lose the experience, but better than having a dead game, and you can always grind to get the xp back. I had that happen in Act II Map 1 on two separate occasions. There's a different solution posted about 15 pages back, but I haven't tried it, yet.

There's a patch coming any idea now where Rodeo Games tries to address the issue you're running into.

Typically a RNG works by having one parameter stored, the state. When you first start the game it is randomly initialised (using e.g. system time). When a card has to be drawn, the RNG uses the state to get a random number and set the state to a new value. An algorithm transforms this number into a card, while doing things like making sure you have at least 1 non t1 item. This is obviously buggy.
Upshot: once you have a state, you will get the exact same sequence every time. Apparently the game keeps a separate RNG for card draws and for the rest like hit chances, maybe for testing purposes.
But if the game is patched, they just change the algorithm, my guess is there is no pre generated list of cards. Maybe there are also other bugs that account for the anomalies but keep in mind people have a tendency to detect all kinds of patterns in random sequences and as there are so few t4 cards per player typically, we are bound to find all sorts of coincidences.

I have only two t4 things right now, an ultramarine devastator and the matching t4 plasma gun which is great, my guess is I was just lucky...

    Wow, clever guy. Good explanation

Sorry to sound alarmist but my theory is that because of this way rng works, it's possible to keep missing certain card variations.

    Imagine this but more complex.
    -there's 20 possible card draws.

-person 1 has a random number sequence that gives moves him through the possible 20 draws with an even number. So he gets packs 4,8,12,16,20,4,8,12,16,20,4,8...hang on, ive seen these cards before.

-person 2 moves through with an uneven number. So she gets packs 2,5,8,11,14,17,20,3,6,9,12,15,18,1,4,7,10,13,16,19,2,5,11,14....ok repeats but person 2 has actually seen all possibilities.

I admit this relies on various assumptions and is way overly simplified but you see what I mean.
