I found Littany of Hate extremely useful, in general in allows you to make huge damage in one turn (and it is only T2 item).
Someone who's had the chance to play the PC version needs to post some screenshots from the codex for us to analyze! I'm guessing some a new tab on the spreadsheet might be required!
There is a new Enhanced Edition Section in the codex that contains 5 Dark Angels, 5 Black Templars and 5 Imperial Fists. One of each unit type (Assault, Tactical, etc) and a weapon. For Templars it is a unique power swards, for Dark Angels its a Plasma Weapon and Imperial Fists have a heavy bolter. That appears to be the only change. Also, the highest level item is a Tier 2. There is one Tier 2 unit per faction and the weapon is Tier 2. A little underwhelming...as if they rushed it out the door. Personally, I would have preferred to wait and get one new faction at a time. But have it fully filled out with units and items up to Tier 4. I really don't get the business logic that had them go the way they did.
Wait I was about to get the PC version but your saying the new factions aren't finished? Tier 2 units and weps max. What happened to tier 3&4?
PC version has access to everything without having to gamble. Earning tier 1,2,3,4 with ease. As you can see people on these forums spent hundreds (4-600$) trying to get all of the content. (Items and units) The PC version won't have any content locked under iaps thankfully
I saw that there was still RP and a card draw system, so what do you mean by earning tier 1-4 with ease? Do you spend your RP differently in the PC version?
While it is true that nothing is locked under iaps (which you could argue it isn't either on ios), everything is still up to RNG. True, you make 20 RP for normal missions instead of 4, so you earn up RP faster than before. But you still have to buy packs to get new gear and thus rely 100% on RNG. And with the so-called 'Enhanced Content' there as now more 'bad' items/marines to get, since all the new stuff is, as mentioned, only T1 and 2 - meaning it will never see any use outside of achievement runs (new for Steam). I haven't completed the campaign on normal yet, so I can't say if it changes after that, but so far I feel I got a lot more for my money buying the ios version and 10 card packs than I did paying an equal amount for the Steam version. Also, they've changed the overwatch system, so you can now only fire at 1 newly spawned alien. All other alien spawns in your overwatch area will be ignored, so farming xp has become quite a bit more tedious. The only thing I really enjoy more on the PC is the sound. There still is no way to adjust any of it, but the sound of bolter fire on a set of good speakers is satisfying to a almost perverse degree. TL;DR if you have a iPad buy the ios version.
I have to say I'm really falling for this game. My first play through ended as a miserable failure. But with lessons learned this second play through is going much better. Unfortunately I'm having a hard time going to sleep at night since I think about strategies for my next missions. One question. Is level 4 the highest level characters you'll get?
There are 12 new marines, 9 tier 1's, 3 tier 2's, and their unique chapter weapons. Originally there was only going to be 3 Tier 2's as a 'pre order bonus' but I pushed for more and we got more and everyone gets access to the content. As for that eurogamer atricle, I haven't read it so I can't comment. My initial thoughts are, its pretty click bait title. The RP and card draw system are still in the PC version, they are more generous, we toyed with the idea of ripping it out and changing it but there was not enough time so it wasn't a feasible option. Tier 4 is the highest, yes. I'm glad your enjoying it.
Hi Matthew, I love the game, best game I've ever played on my iPad. I've got to cut back on playing or I am going to have to check myself in to Appaholics Anonymous. It's just THAT good. But I have to ask, what was Rodeo thinking with the PC release? You have to be prepared for a endless comments and reviews labelling it a "poor PC port" given the way you've done it. You've got a warped version of no-cost IAP, which still involves a ton of grinding unless you've tweaked the RNG for dropped unit and items. You've got three new 'partial' chapters that are only usable on Normal and the early part of Veteran levels. And there is still no multi-player. The whole thing just feels so rushed. And the crazy thing is that what makes the iOS version stand out from other apps (particularly other Games Workshop apps) is its incredible attention to detail. The sounds, the animations, the subtle distinguishing details of each unit, it's all amazing. Perfect. Why did you feel you need to rush to get the PC version out? If you had done it right, it would have been another huge win for you. Release the base game with one new chapter fully filled out and let people know that others are coming through reasonably priced DLCs. And to release without multi-player? Crazy, that one change alone would have made it worth getting the PC version while we wait for Apple to fix their Gamecenter issues. Please take this in the tone it's meant. Loving criticism from a huge fan.
I agree with that ... did you make a spreadsheet, too, listing marines, desired kill teams, and showing expected damage for weapons based on marine accuracy and crit? It's the first iPad game that, playing, I forgot it was "merely" an iPad game. It's largely spoiled me for other iPad games. I was excited about the PC version ... But, ATM, I think I'd be continually reminded it is "merely" an iPad port. The graphics look great, but they - and the additional marines/wargear - aren't enough to make it a "buy" for me. They don't outweigh the convenience of playing on an iPad. A couple of features that, regardless of anything else, would have me buying immediately: 1) A way to select chosen wargear or marines with RP. 2) The game turns out to be moddable - not dev supported necessarily, with a suite of free tools or something - just files easier to access than with a hex editor. I'd love to be able to fiddle with marine traits, and re-jigger some weapon stats. Oh, and the tyranids ...! Those are characteristics I'd expect in a PC game, btw. (Plus a volume control. ) The completely random acquisition of in-game "stuff" and no-modding are characteristics I associate with lesser, mobile, games.
I'm always wiling to chat Yeah, I was prepared for the comments people are making, it's not a huge surprise to me. The hostility towards 'mobile ports' will always remain, the stigma that nothing on mobile can be good is something we tried to disprove with Deathwatch. The PC version was done in the time we had but we'd always been working on it because game development is done on a PC. We like the the loot system, because everyone experiences something different, But to answer your statement, for PC we upped all the RP generation and made it more generous. The partial chapters annoys me a bit, when someone says something like "Just bang out 12 new marines", its not that simple. Each marine needs to be perfect, a complete replica of his table top model (Or he gets rejected) and then he needs new animations and abilities. It takes over a month to create a new marine from scratch and get him approved, we only have 1 character artist and we pretty much ran him into the dust with Deathwatch. We originally only had 3 new marines for the PC version, but we were able to create some tier 1's because they're less detailed and ornate than tiers 2/3/4. Multiplayer is different because its all handled by GameCenter on iOS (nothing we can do about that), if we wanted multiplayer on the PC version, that was another 6 months alone switching over to steam. It would need a full redesign, user hosted lobbies etc. It's never as simple as it seems. I don't think GW will allow modding, they are very protective of their IP's which is why the process of approvals takes so long (at least for us). I'm not sure if any other titles have it? It was something that was discussed in the office as a post launch feature though but we never took it further. We're a team of 6 people and time is always against us, if we haven't got a game out we're dead in the water. I hope this makes sense, it's quite late and I'm tired. I don't mean to sound 'stand off ish' or aggressive, and if anything comes across that way, I'm sorry
Both "Dawn of War" games had large modding communities - still active to some extent - and kick-started with developer-released tools. The most recent 40K game I've any familiarity with (other than this one) is "Space Marine," which has mods. So GW has allowed it in the past. But they certainly are very protective, and I've no idea how they feel this week. If they haven't asked you to take active measures against modding, they're being less restrictive than I'd feared.
I kept clear of this one until last night. Purchased it because I was really eager to play any turn-based game. Then remembering Hunters, I decided to give this one a go and boy is it phenomenal. Im only on Act 1 but how many more are there? What is the absolute maximum amount of men you can deploy in a mission?
Hey man just wanted to say thank you for your effort. You created a truly great game with a very small team, and then you publish it, and then all the hate comes in - and you have to suck it all up because apparently that is what a dev has to do otherwise it gets even worse.... Thanks for being here regularly, for being honest with us and I do hope you get enough enjoyment and money out of this to keep making great games!
Dear RodeoMatthew! I am vary glad that Rodeo does not forget about the IOS users and i am still waiting for the new content. I wonder if there is a possibility to launch an addon with a new story of the Deathwatch. For example we pay another full game price and get new 9 acts.
I wasn't too sure on the whole thing, that's not really something I have a great deal of input with. I am big supporter of Mods and even when the whole paid mods thing came about, I supported it. It's great to let people be creative and get paid for their time. But thats a different conversation all together! We've got an announcement this week about what's coming up next for us
You can't drop bombs like this then go away!!!! HYPE!!!!! BTW....I just got a iPhone 6S and DeathWatch FLIES on it. I wonder if some of the enhancements (mostly the real time shadows, they are SO COOL) could make it on iOS too sometimes.... On a side note...iOS9 completely wrecked Game Center on iPhone for me (while it's still fine on iPad Air after a restore). I know iOS 9.1 (currently in beta 5) solves all GC problems....really looking forward to it (and then Deathwatch mp hopefully)...I really wished Apple would publish it faster (I think it's scheduled for November ).
Pretty smooth on the 6S, oh yes. But yeah the game freezes for a moment and then the gamecenter's "welcome back" sign comes up and im like -_-
Eh...that's what it does on my iPad...but despite 2 restores no go on iPhone 6S. Apparently, judging but the whooping over 20 pages on Apple forums....it's totally random. Besides the total lack of GC achievements, the same bug prevents loading many GC games and even more annoying deleting games. (system freezes). Several people told me iOs 9.1 since beta 3 solves the problem (and GC is fast as before, not super slow like when it works now). I just read new Apple TV is out next week...so MAYBE Apple will publish this damn update this week.
