Finally after a four day drought of no T4s. While it is not another lone wolf (have five of them so far) I already have one of these and still only have three different T4 marines. Has anyone had better luck with opening say 12-15 packs in a row instead of the buy one at a time and open system I have been using?
It makes ZERO DIFFERENCE how/when you open them. What you get is already determined before you even buy a pack. Let alone when and how you open it. If it helps, ive found there's about 7.5% chance of getting a t4 marine in a pack.
inuse78 is correct: The developers have said that the game could give you a list of the contents of every pack you'll ever get. It's good to see the developers are taking a bit of stick on this forum for the over-priced IAP. Hopefully they won't be so greedy when the next IAP are released (I wouldn't count on it though - I wonder if/when this game will go free).
I know you shouldn't compare one game mechanic / iap to another but i would much prefer the option to know what I'm paying money for and buy a marine outright. Rather than a non-disclosed chance of getting what I want.
I don't think things are going to change, given that many people have this gamble mindset/ buying a chance. Even if one can get ALL items from grinding, imagine how torturous it will be given the kind of rng. Such game with this IAP/ rng system I personally will avoid in future. I think this game is best play as it is, no grinding (I find grinding for xp really a waste of time, doing some particular mission over and over again..) complete whatever difficulty there is, and that's it. In this sense, given its current price point, it's a good value.
Definitely. The problem is that making everything random and hiding the odds disguises very well just how poor value the packs are. Example: In Warhammer Quest you could probably buy every extra campaign, character and weapon for £30. In this game you PROBABLY get two random tier 4 marines and a few random items. Imagine if they had an IAP for a Lone Wolves/any other factional team, and it cost £60: That would be a real bargain compared to the current packs, but few customers would pay that.
EXACTLY!! Well said. I gave an example of what £500 worth of cards looks like on here a few pages back. Not saying you need to pay £500 but probably gives you an idea of how much you'd likely need spend if you wanted something specific. Not trying to cause a uproar but this iap method feels borderline exploitative. Just by saying 'you don't need to buy packs to complete the games' doesn't dissolve you from the responsibility that what you're charing for is grossly unfair.
I'm confused as to the fixed nature of card purchases you're describing. I've opened hundreds since launch and am still getting t4 items I've never had including today. Is the point that eventually I'll start to see today's cards again in the future even though it might be months away? Also, anyone know what "Marine stays on Overwatch even if damaged" means? What is damage in this context and does it mean marines can be taken off Overwatch if they take damage?
I like the randomness and surprise of opening packs. Couldn't they make a higher price band for packs where there is a much higher certainty of getting heigher tier marines and equipment? And maybe have better chance of higher tier drops at veteran and heroic...Personally though I like everything about this game exactly as it is.
I agree that the packs are very poor value, I wouldn't buy them myself. But the main difference imho with this model is that you may unlock a lot of marines for free just via playing the campaigns (See Pitta's post about what you unlock for a complete play through) or grind. Whereas in WQ you had to buy each one of the heroes besides the first squad for 2.99 each. I have everything in WQ but I bought the last heroes on sale, I only bought the expansions full price and maybe 2 dudes (totally worth it of course, I loved WQ a lot ) So ok, the RNG road s.cks if you are a completist or want to play a very precise team, but for a lot of other people, myself included, it's actually cheaper. The main issue for a game like this, that would be 20$ on Steam without shocking anybody, is the ultra competitive market on iOS where the money is mainly on free to play. So if they want to make enough to pay for what must have been an expensive game, they have to adapt to the marketplace and not only on what a few players might want in an ideal world. In the real world, very few people would buy a Tier IV Long fang ancient at 2.99, but a lot of people will play the packs lottery (see the success of Heartstone). If you want better value in packs, maybe a better gear/ marines mix (at least a tier III, a tier II and one Tier I max), the ability to chose a chapter for marines, or a lower price. I'm also pretty sure the main game will be on sale in a few months, and maybe free if chosen by Apple for game of the week. With the packs model, they will have a better revenue stream during the life of the game, which means more expansions for us, so I'm happy as long as they find a way to get pis long enough to add more stuff to this magnificent game. Last point, it's also a Games Workshop licensed game, so don't forget that they may have their word on the pricing, and at least a nice part of the money going to them. PS : I would be very interested to know the repartition of the tevenue so far between the 4.99 app price, and the packs IAP. Not that Rodeo should give this info away of course . But I would bet on at least half IAP, half paid app already. TLDR : let's hope Rodeo find the best way for them to earn money for this great game, and ensure us a lot of content in the next months or years!
I agree with vicsark. I like this model much better than the Warhammer Quest model. In WQ, I felt like I was being "robbed" (only in IOS world would this be robbery) paying $3 per new character since I'm not a huge IAP guy (that said, I bought new quest content and two or three of the coolest characters). Here, I feel like I have received tremendous value at $5, can get access to the same content potentially (with the emphasis on potentially) as anyone buying IAP, while not being forced to buy IAP to progress through the game. The lack of pay-wall is awesome. I actually bought a two-pack just to show my appreciation to the company for producing this type of game. Just by playing through normal and veteran and grinding some veteran missions for XP, I have a nice assortment of T3 marines and equipment, a decent assortment of T4 equipment, and have the Lone Wolf, the Long Fang Ancient and the Sternguard. With that group of Marines, the game is challenging but eminently beatable. Would I love a T4 apothecary or sanguinary guard - sure who wouldn't - but I can still play the game's contents very well without them. Where I think they could make a killing is premium pricing T4 marines in addition to selling the random packs. Given the money folks are dropping on packs, no doubt, folks would pay $15 for an elusive marine to satisfy their completionist urgings.
Exactly what you have just said. If you have a marine without that ability on overwatch he will be taken off overwatch when damaged. This is significant because any tyranid in range will attack before movement happens. So if you have a guy set up to cover a specific area in overwatch for a turn and there is a ranged tyranid grunt in range of you, it will attack before it's mates move, meaning you've essentially wasted a round of overwatch!
The marine I most want out of all of them! Get yourself farming mission 8.3 on veteran (or heroic if you've got the team for it) until you get the Tier 4 Uultramarine only Plasma Cannon, Doom of the Behemoth(if you don't already have it). He will be an absolute monster for your kill team!
On a separate note, @RodeoMatthew - I've got a vague recollection of you saying you guys might already be looking into this, so apologies if you have already clarified...but inventory management. Specifically either a fix of the bug causing the game to freeze after 5-10 item sells OR (and certainly this would be much preferred) some sort of checkbox type system where I can select all of the items I want to delete and then just press the button once. At the moment it is, quite frankly, a colossal ball ache to delete items after opening even a couple of packs. Also, the Space Marine tab reverts back to the top of the list after you have clicked on a specific marine and either sold him or hit the back button. The inventory screen does not do this (and this is much better).
Speaking of overwatch, ive had a few instances where my marines have dropped out of OW as soon as the enemy turn starts. Nothing hit them. There aren't any hero bosses who have that ability around. The only reason I can think is that ive used that SW t4 thingie that gives you two extra APs and that's somehow causing it to drop out? Anyone else experienced that?
I'm still on basic >> Playing on the commute to work (thank you no online requirement!) means a slow but steady pace.
It depends, are you referring to marines that have gained additional AP via the ability that gives it to them for being near teammates? In my experience this does not carry over to the overwatch phase and marines will drop out of overwatch accordingly
Ah well, he's an investment for the future then. But still, get him in your squad asap, get his accuracy up and then get unlocking those abiities and wargear slots
