I split my team, i had three on the left and two on the right. My tactical marine on the right kept tagging him with bolter fire and when he turned to get them the three on the left tore him to shreds from behind. I did the same with the second one. The group on the left were clearing the smaller tyranids as fast as they could!

Ps how do you post images??

    Far far away
I really wish you could convert your cards into XP instead of those "coins". I got maxed out squad so if i get a better character it would take ages to lvl him up again.

For some reason I'm having difficulty remembering the specifics of this mission, but any time you've got Tyrant Guards with the 90% damage mitigation from the front, you need to be flanking them. Either use something with Hunker Down or Oath of Immortality to hold them in place while you move to the side (remembering that on the 2x2 enemy square the front 1x2 rectangle is classed as "the front" - regardless of the fact you're shooting them from the side).

You can also just draw them on using LoS. I've found that tyranids will usually follow a marine they can see, regardless of the fact you might have a marine closer just out of LoS. It's like the computer inputs all of its movement in one go, rather than inching forward and recalculating like most of us do!

And yes, in the later levels, save all buffs and wargear unless it's life or death! You might be fighting a Broodlord now, but there could (and probably will) be a Carnifex or a Hive Tyrant round the corner

Birth, I seem to remember somebody saying that you were one of the first people to finish Heroic mode? I'm curious as to where your Kill Team is up to in terms of makeup, gear, levels etc? (and if you remember what it was when you first finished it?)

    My fav tactic as well.
No matter how many times I see the retaliate animation with the power fist...I fell in love every time.

Any word on looping rewards from card packs? Tired of drawing the same low tier marines time and again and the apparent impossibility of getting a tier IV marine. I can hardly justify any time or money on this whilst this goes on and pretty frustrating to be behind the curve without any way to affect this before multiplayer goes live

What teams are people using starting heroic? I usually go with 2 tactical 2 assault and one devastator with a plasma cannon but am finding it hard to kill even the small tyranids in one turn. Time to ditch my T3 power sword and go with a power fist?

I use the same and completed Act 1.
But yeah now even the basic critters require multiple shots.
    And they are A TON.

Confused - one of the big differences in Heroic is that I no longer think about dominating and exploiting a map. I now think about survival.

I found I could do okay all the way up to Act III Map 3, because either I'm not facing anything but the first level enemies, or I could control the encounters with the larger enemies.

Throughout Act I, as much as I can, I manage the amount of tyranids I activate in any single turn. Kill them, then move on. Act I Map 4 is simply about surviving 10 turns, and you get a 2 turn head start where they don't spawn. I keep my group together in the middle of the map around the two spawning pools so they have LoS to every portal the enemies are coming through, then just keep mowing them down until the rescue ship arrives.

The Act II bridges, which I farmed for XP on Normal and Veteran, is now all about getting to the final objective, and not concerning myself with XP any more --- which is a regular refrain from then on regarding Heroic. Act II map 3 you control how many tyranids you activate, then map 4 is another race to the end point, again, not farming for experience. It was weird to me at first not trying to kill all the enemies on the map, but they're just too big of a bullet sponge, and more keep spawning.

Act III Map 1 and 2 are again about controlling how many tyranids you're activating, then map 3 and 4 are about running like hell to finish the objective. On Map 3 my best strategy has been to kill everything on the map, send one guy over to the upper right corner to kill anything that spawns, which they will every other turn. Use the other 4 to grab data collectors. Gather around the drop off point. Use the guy with the most action points to drop off his data canister then high tail it back to grab the last one. Drop off the other 3. Pull back the soldier from the upper right to the rest of the group. Then hang on as the tyranids come in from every direction while that last marine gets the final canister and brings it back. You only have to survive a few turns.

The one where the promethean gas is exploding I don't dally at all. I kick in afterburners going the southern route trying to reach the exit point as fast as I can. Oftentimes I'll have 8 to 10 tyranid warriors scattered around by the time I exist the scenario, and can't hit the broad side of a barn with all their -% to accuracy debuffs everywhere unless I have deadshot activated.

Anyway, it's been more of the same in Act IV and V. Just run screaming for the most part for the exit. I can kill the tyranids, but the big ones slow me down enough that I end up facing too many enemies all around, if it's a map where there is infinite spawn and they're coming from mulitiple directions. If it's not infinite spawn then I just carefully manage how many tyranids I'm facing at any one time. If nothing else you can always rest your guys to get the timers reset then start again.

I haven't finished Heroic, so I'm concerned about how I'll handle the last two maps of Act IX, but we'll figure it out when we get there. I still have some big upgrades I can do with my squad in terms of gear and personnel, so we'll see what happens.

I just ran through it again real quick.

To me one of the keys is that the tyranids are not infinite spawns. I didn't count exactly how many waves there were, but something like 4 maybe? And they don't spawn every turn at every portal. So the ones closest to your base are at worst spawning every other turn.

What I'm getting at is that I made sure everything else was clear before tackling the tyrant guards, so that I could be sure any maneuvering I did to get behind them wasn't going to be obstructed by the gene stealers and other lesser enemies.

At Veteran I can still regularly mow down the lesser enemies, so getting them out of the way wasn't as much of an issue as it is on Heroic.

I tried to use the grav gun I usually carry, and it was helpful on other enemies, but for whatever reason on an alleged 90% to hit, it was constantly missing on one of the tyrant guards. Couldn't say why that was happening.

I carry two devastators on my squad with Deadeye and plasman cannons. With different buffs and the plasma weapon on secondary fire, it wasn't too difficult for them to single shot the tyrant guards, once I could target the back two squares.

During the mission I started out in a pretty aggressive forward stance to get LoS to the front, left, and right, and then made an orderly retreat back to the mission origin the the middle path.

I made the Hive Guard enemies a priority target when they spawned, but left the Tyrant guards until they were the last enemies remaining.

I have a number of damage mitigation gear I use. I try to make sure I'm not activating more than one per turn if I possibly can. Whichever marine has the damage mitigation trait/wargear activated, I put him forward so the tyranids concentrate on him to whatever degree possible, then swap him out with another one as necessary.

I don't know if any of that helps. I'd be glad to go into more detail if you have any questions.

Eh...I know it's not that WH40K canon but as it's my fav movie and Deathwatch somewhat capture the essence of it during gameplay.
    I have a Parker too :)

    Hey Everyone,

If you have experienced opening packs and getting the exact same cards as a previous pack, please quote this message and respond. One of the devs has informed me I am the only one, but I'm confident this is not the case.

    Thanks

I haven't kept an exact count but I've noticed that the quality and frequency of T4 drops (especially marines) has decreased quite a bit. I've all but given up hope that I'll ever get a Master of Relics. At least I have a good Space Wolves team. Still love the game regardless, although I did like the IAP version in WHQ better, buy to get exactly what you want.

Heh, I have my Space Wolves team named after the Stark Direwolves from Game of Thrones. Ghost, Grey Wind, Nymeria, Summer and ShaggyDog ;)
