I appreciate you beating the drum on this, Lickzy.

I love Rodeo Games. I really do. I loved Hunter 1 & 2. I still play Warhammer Quest. But I'm not a big fan of IAPs. Unfortunately, it's just one of those ways where the world has gone in a direction that it wouldn't have if I was in charge.

It's understandable, however, why IAPs have become such a big thing. They make money. There's a theory that people don't want to pay premium prices for mobile games, especially when you can't exactly take it to the local store for a trade in after you're done. Also, cracking is so ubiquitous, particularly on the Android platform, with Google encouraging a freemium model as their overall business strategy. Get the numbers and worry about the revenue later has been a dot.com philosophy for 20 years now. The IAP freemium business model is simply that moving into the mobile game world.

The difference between the Warhammer Quest implementation of IAP and this one, though, is singular, and important. Instead of paying for a specific character, item, or extra content, Rodeo Games has now implemented an RNG controlled card system. On the one hand, I have to say that there's something pretty fun about the whole experience. I love getting a new pack, and getting excited about what might be inside it. I love the animations, the way the Warhammer sigil begins to vibrate, then glows red, then explodes into the three different cards. It's like the old game show, "Let's Make a Deal!" What is going to be behind doors #1, #2, and #3.

I see various people commenting that of course Rodeo Games is going to eventually create some kind of card trading system, so people can complete their decks. Why should they? This is an economic decision. If they are consistently rewarded as an organization from people buying card packs, what's the incentive to create ways for people to complete their codex's or their preferred lineup, other than buying card packs?

In Rodeo Games' defense, it is relatively easy to get new card packs, and the prices aren't what I would consider excessive --- as long as it's a fair system. I know I played a FPS called Midnight Star when it came out. A fun game, that I enjoyed quite a bit. But the system for leveling up weapons was obscene. It was basically $50 to level up any piece of gear (that's off the top of my head) and that's with waiting a couple of days for each one of the later levels (it was more if you wanted it leveled up right away). The devs discussing the game in twitch or other social media were completely insensitive to this, swapping out whatever weapons and gear they wanted at a moment's notice.

I don't know what kind of success they're still enjoying, or if they've made the kind of revenue they hoped to. It was a pretty decent studio effort with some overhead costs associated with it, so there was some risk/reward type calculations involved.

I get the sense that Rodeo Games has a good handle on their overhead costs. Warhammer Deathwatch: Tyranid Invasion is an extremely slick project, but as amazed as I am by the graphics, and the attention to detail, it is a TBS top down game. I feel confident they're going to do well by this game, especially if they implement P2P right.

But they risk angering us as a customer base if that random loot system is ever perceived of as unfair. In the interest of maximizing their revenue stream --- for a game they charge $4.99 from the get go --- they chose a random card based system versus allowing people to buy the content outright. Again, there are plenty of aspects I find fun about it that I wouldn't if it was simply click on a card and purchase the content the way it is in Warhammer Quest, but if there are issues with the RNG, that needs to be addressed ASAP. I would hope at some point they'll have a different solution for how people can go about improving their squads, or at least make the various Tier IV marines mildly more plentiful in how often they spawn.

Having said all that, I do have a great deal of confidence in Rodeo Games. I feel like they'll do the right thing here. It's obvious Deathwatch is a labor of love. They're not even close to building out the content. I know I for one will leap at the chance of continuing this story. They can expand in so many different areas. The sky is really the limit, as long as they maintain an audience.

And that's the key. I hope they go after a large customer base willing to pay $4.99 for the content, and maybe a deck here or there, rather than going after the whales willing to spend hundreds of dollars the way Candy Crush and Clash of Clans do. Which is how the card shop seems to be set up in the first place --- as long as the card decks are fairly administered.

My issue is that I as well as others are those whales who have spent 100s of dollars on this game and right now, if I spent a hundred grand on buying packs, I wouldn't even fill out a single codex, let alone the whole thing.

In fact, I'm confident I wouldn't even unlock a single new item in my codex... That is fundamentally wrong and needs to be fixed. This RNG business is a total, looping joke!

This is sad. Imagine the things I could've done with a bunch of lone wolves. T2 BAs are totally not worth it.

Yes. The difference is that for you it's personal. For me it's systemic. For you, you'll give up on the game, which I would argue would be the right thing for you to do.

For me, the issue is that everyone will give up the game --- or they should! --- which would be a bad thing, because the game is awesome, and Rodeo Games has done so many things right.

I don't think a mobile based game that encourages people to spend 100s of dollars is an ethical business decision, personally.

But if we bypass my subjective morality, I would argue all of us should be confident as a consumer that we're getting what we perceive to be paying for, which you rightfully, IMO, are questioning at this point.

It is both personal AND systemic. I agree with absolutely every point you've made and I agree with your "subjective morality".

The game is a ton of fun and I do love Rodeo Studio (WHQ was the reason I bought my first iPad ) but what's happening here is wrong....

Yes I am ticked but more so... I just want it fixed for myself and everyone.

    Let's switch it up....

If you had to run a party of only one type of marine, what would it be and what would your gear choice be?

In currently considering levelling up 5 Honorguard Ultramarines, each wth the following:
    Medusa Plasma Pistol
    Xenos Crusher
    Iron Halo
    Right of Ultramar

    Thought or suggestions?

Hi guys. A few people have messaged me to ask about my method for grinding XP so I thought I would share it. Stop reading if you don't like spoilers, because this changes the way you play the game. I have a squad of level 55 tier 2-3 guys, I don't care about EXP and can quit a mission if I'm bored without fear of the cruel XP penalty.

NOTE: This trick works in version 1.0. I haven't tried it in 1.1 and so have no idea whether it will work. I expect that it will not.

METHOD: The trick is to complete a mission as normal, there are 3 screens you get:
    1) The "VICTORY" screen which fades after a few seconds to;
    2) The EXP screen, which shows your squad and how much XP they earned each
    3) The Loot screen, which shows the grey card which you must click to turn over and get loot

On screen 1 and 2, you do nothing out of the ordinary. Proceed through as normal.

As soon as I press "Continue" on screen 2, I start moving as quickly as possible. Be ready to double press the home screen. When screen 3 loads, press to turn over the pack as soon as you can. As soon as you see the loot that you have received, double tap the home screen then swipe up to close the app.

    At this stage it hasn't saved, and you can re-open the app. You will note that it loads at the "VICTORY" screen again. There are two consequences of this;
First - you get a second shot at loot. This is inconsistent and doesn't seem to work past the second time.
Second (and WAY more significant) - you double dip on EXP. You keep the XP you got from before you hard closed the game, and get the same again when you reload.

No double loot but here's my team with 1,000,000 exp each from farming up 20k EXP on 2.1 and then closing and re-opening for an hour:

    Resume not working

Just wondering if something happens for everyone here. when i exit the game with home button, or lock my phone and then unlock it i always have to wait for the app to re-load when i return to it. Very occasionally it will resume immediately without going through loading screens, so I'm thinking its a minor bug.

    Im using an iPhone 6, iOS 8.4, DW:TI 1.1

background is I picked this up Day 1 and I have read every page of this thread, and am at Vet 1.3, loving the game, no IAP yet,
    Squad is:
    Tier 4 Sanguary,
    T3 BA Dev,
    T3 UM Tactical,
    T3 SW Assault,
    T2 UM Tactical

    only the 1 T4 marine and 3 T3's collected so far, and not a single T4 weapon :( only a T4 Stimpack.

The Frostskull's Strength and the Saga of the Ironwolf. You could almost complete any mission in one turn.:D

I suppose you could use some +15% melee sigils? But how about three Saga of Ironwolf each? That would be crazy in multiplayer. Imagine the horror of your opponent.

I think the weakness of the ultramarines is no trait/ability crits. I'd go with 5 Lone Wolfs. 40% to crit on every move. 20% to crit chance AND damage on activation of one of their traits. Plus the Frostskull's Strength has an insane accuracy at 65%.

Still, the self heal ability if facing enemies that aren't striking your soldiers down in one turn is nice. Which is what the Iron Halo is intended to discourage.

For the Honor Guard, I'd consider the best Refractor field possible to add up to 30% dodge to the 15% dodge.

You can also use ifun-box, it's a freebie I have used for several years. You can also access save files on apps that dont have file sharing, and works on NON jailbroken iPad. I have an Air2 and have had no problems, even install apparently as well. Just ignore the screen than opens with apps that need updating cos it onky connects to the American store iirc. Just chose classic mode when you run the program. I'm not certain, but I think it's a standalone program, runs from any folder.

@rodeo - Was turning off unit damage numbers intentional? It's very disappointing to not see how much damage you do.
