Devs, I watch enemy rockets/missiles land next to my tortoise or directly onto my biggin or regular mouse gunner squads yet they don't die. Why is that? Wouldn't it be more interesting to have them die and respawn? Billy
They do die... their max health goes up with each wave though so I suppose it could be possible they could survive a hit later in the game (though its unlikely). I dont think enemy weapons have splash damage either, so if its not a direct targeted hit, that could explain it as well.
Ahhh. There have been a few times I have heard a death type yell maybe I'm just missing it. Thank you. I'm just so happy to be able to finally be able to talk about the game. Billy
Don't let that stop you - I'm having an absolute ball with it on every single level. It's free - just dive in. Fantastic game and getting better each time I play.
I hope i'm doing this right... As soon as i'm able to go to the advance to the next generation, i do so. Is that a good thing?
@forsaken, I think I dug myself into a hole. I've been buying the start at stage "X" on next gen each time. So, each time I regen, I start at a higher stage with a bunch of money. Well it was working fine and dandy until I reached L81. Inevitably, somewhere in the 10 waves, there's an enemy that targets me and one hit kills me every time. There's nothing I can do about it since i have no idea which enemy is targeting me in the mass of troops. I've tried a couple things. 1) Spent all my money on allies in the hopes they would intercept - no luck despite having every troop unlocked with max squads (except for the final two turtles) 2) Spent all my money pumping up armor to 50, health to 60 - still a one hit kill. 3) Spent all my money on primary weapons to aim but dps can't keep up with my allies. 4) Every combo of the above. Is this a bug or did I screw something up. Does Next Gen-ing make the enemies stronger? It just feels weird because I'm 1-2 hitting almost everything on the screen except for this random enemy that targets me and one hits me. Since my armor/health so high, even on the off chance I take a stray bullet, it barely does a fraction except for this mysterious enemy. And since I haven't progressed more than one stage since next genning, the game won't let me next gen until I beat this stage. Thus I'm stuck waiting for those timers to run out. I've died 5 times now and the timer is too long Edit: Beat it on the sixth try. Not sure what I did differently... just managed to hit whatever was targeting me I guess. But either way, I can see the above being problematic.
This timer thing is kind of a deal breaker. I was thinking about purchasing the permanent IAPs but I'll refrain for now. Even if it's considered "harmless", it's kind of worrying. Why was this mechanic included in the game in the first place? Probably to create a bottleneck somewhere. Thanks for the warning though.
Only feature I can think of that would be a game-changer would be allowing the game to run while minimized. A lot of people use their ipads for almost all their computer needs, so just watching the war chug along on auto won't fly for everyone when they've got things to be getting on with, but you can't do anything else and progress at the same time as it is now. Being able to browse happy in the knowledge that bugs are being blown to smithereens in the app next door would be great. You guys seem to have thought through most of this already, though, so I'm sure you've got your reasons.
Naw, as they said earlier, it's to encourage you to hit the Next Generation (and get stronger). It also means the weapons are meted-out a bit better, stretching the game's lifespan. There's almost no limit to the amount of Next Generations you can get, I think. Maybe they could explain some of these things a bit more in the game. Although I personally dig games which refrain from bombarding you with a barrage of info early on, there do seem to be a few things that might benefit new players if they were elucidated. For example, the first time you buy a weapon upgrade, you could refresh people's memory on what you said earlier: that they majorly tweak that unit's weapons in different ways.
Yeah, I don't understand the purpose of the timers either. For a game that seems really fair for iap throughout, it seems out of place. That said, I wouldn't let my story stop you from buying the permanent iap - they're still a great value. I think the lesson I've learned though, is rather than buying the "Start on Stage X" over and over until it's the stage right before, i'm going to give it some lee-way and stay 2-3 levels behind, so that even on the off-chance that I die, I can still next-gen to save myself and not get stuck. In terms of feedback for the devs though - it would be nice to have some other way to pump up armor/health - or maybe I'm just missing whatever that method is, but damage seems to rise pretty significantly but health doesn't (My gun tower is doing 12,000,000 damage while I have ~6,000 hp). Maybe enemy damage doesn't increase?
These ads are just pop up pictures (not videos) that can be immediately dismissed and they only pop up when you open the app. The only thing I don't like about them is that they don't tell you what game they're for.
I really love this game. But where is the instant continue button or the instant nextgen continue button once you die too many times without hitting a better progress in battle? Then you are forced to wait for 15 mins or maybe longer? On my screen there is no other way to continue without buying tokens or whatever this currency is in this moment. Why is there nothing to remove this. Do i miss something? This destroys everything for me in such a great game.
Hmmm, that sounds weird. My guess is its a Rat Sniper or something... I think with level 60 health at level 80, you might be just on the edge of having too few HP... The timer is to push you to go Next Generation after you die a few times... there is never a time where you can't keep playing the game by simply going Next Generation. There had to be a penalty for dying as the bonuses for reaching your 'New Best' exponentially grow larger... and we didn't want to do something like a finite "3 lives." This way you can play how you want. You can wait if you're a "pick up and play short sessions" type of player, or you can immediately go Next Generation if you want to keep playing. There are health perks... also, the general rule of thumb is that you should upgrade health once per level. I'll have to check the numbers for higher level play though. But yes, damage increases for enemies MUCH slower than their health increase... so likewise your damage will be much higher than your health as well. You just go Next Generation and keep playing... you never have to wait to keep playing the game.
As an IT Specialist and avid gamer, people who complain about a simple ad pop-up that takes literally a tap to get rid of on a free game remind me a WHOLE LOT like my customers who complain about Adobe Reader pop ups needing updates, or Windows 10 update box. Just f*cking close it. You already tap 100 times during the game, is one more that dispicable? Pretend it's a super easy enemy and smash it. Problem solved. Please don't get rid of video ads. They give me extra money and a 15 second piss break.
@Forsaken, I think I can recreate what we're talking about that prevents you from playing. Example. I'm on Generation 212, Level 111. In the store, I start on Level 111 after every next generation. So, if I Next Gen, I'd be Generation 213, but start on Level 111. The pre-requisite to Next Gen to 214 is to complete Level 111 first - until then, i cannot next-gen past 213 (I can post ss if you'd like). So then - if I happen to die during one of the ten waves of Level 111, I get a death timer with an option to pay 1 token to re-attempt the wave, or to wait the timer out to re-attempt the level from scratch. Since I haven't met the pre-req to next-gen (beating level 111), I cannot next-gen and the option isn't even there. So... I'm effectively stuck until I can beat the level. Let's say the level is just too hard... in that case, I just die over and over on Wave 1 of Level 111, with ever increasing timers and no way out. That's what I was trying to describe earlier and it looks like a few others are having that issue. PS - on the higher levels, there's just no way to maintain one health level per level. Past 60 or so, the cost is so prohibitive that until I manage to grab a whole bunch of health perks, I can't get more. I just attempted to reach L110 Health on my next gen... costed $4m... leaving me $1.5m for upgrades... which isn't going to be enough. AKA... the issue I described earlier just happened, leaving me stuck... except this time around, I spent so much on health, I have no way to recoup the losses to upgrade everything else. The first enemy of the first wave has killed me thrice now with me stuck on the timer.
I've already shown my support to the devs by purchasing $10 worth of the IAP, and yes, very valuable. The one criticism I have of the game is the lengthy timers when I die. I generally just close the game and do something else when it happens. So I have some suggestions: 1. Mineral collection squad that goes around the field and collects minerals. You can upgrade armor and health and even squad number (in case they die). They need to be separate from the mineral tower or else they become necessary in mineral tower upgrades. 2. Increased damage when manually aiming (by 50%), as well as the ability to manually fire supplemental weapons (special buttons to the left and right of the tortoise) so as to aim and time deadly mortar attacks. Auto aim is awesome (I use it all the time) but it would be great to feel if I was aiming it was making a huge difference. 3. Remove the death timers if you make a purchase, or use ads to skip the timers. Or put a $4.99 IAP to remove all ads (as well as the death timer). 4. Add a way to find tokens (used to buy perks) in the game, such as a creature that doesn't attack but wanders into the battlefield or flies through it, and the only way to kill it is to manually aim. Or perhaps it only offers parts of a token and if you collect 3 or 4 you can put them together to construct a whole piece.
Gotcha, thanks. Looks like we didn't anticipate such a rapid fire Next Generation play style (which is perfectly valid!), so we'll have to look at that in order to ensure that you can't get in that situation. In all of our tests and most of our beta testers it ends up being almost completely opposite level to generation ratio (ie, usually players are a much higher level than they are generation). That in combination with focusing on head starts created a perfect storm, worst case scenario >_< Currently the increasing requirement for Next Generation is there just to prevent an exploit of instantly next genning after getting your head start to 5 (bc then you could just start the game and instantly next gen over and over again forever)... we'll have to look into some ways to fix these... I think I have a few ideas. And by upgrade health once every Level, keep in mind there are 10 waves per level, so you basically just have to invest one wave in order to upgrade health per 10 waves.
How do you earn tokens? I've been playing for a couple of hours and I've earned two! Well four if you count the tutorial. I just received a free perk and two of my three options were for things I haven't even unlocked yet. Seems kind of pointless to offer a bonus to something you can't get.
