You've already used the example for me! Elder Signs, a game of which I own both physically and in app form! The app version of the game has just recently become a full game with the release of the last campaign of the core game, all of campaigns which are included as part of the core boxed game experience when you buy it. When the app released it only (IIRC) had three of the core games campaigns available. Was it playable? Yes, very, but it did not have all the content that came with the core game experience upon release which consists of 8 campaigns in the box. Likewise, another boardgame Small World does not contain the core game experience, lacking certain races from the core game even with add-ons. Conversely, Playdeks boardgame and card game releases have released the full core game experience in their translations, offering the expansions just as they are, expansions. Another game would be Zenforms, a game I have sitting on my iPad unplaced as it has no ending as of yet because the developer is still working toward making the game what he had envisioned it. I can think of many more but I'll stop here because I don't want to beat a dead horse... Or an undeadcow (I love his user name!). I think it is you that would be best served by listening to Inigo (Mandy Patinkin, what a great actor! loved in on Dead Like Me). This new perception of complete that the general gamer assumes of games has only come around in the past maybe 10 years. Not to sound like an old man sitting on the porch yelling at the kids to stay off his lawn, but your idea of complete and mine are very different and perhaps generational. Despite being very used to it and adjusting to it as the new norm, I didn't grow up in an era where my games had features or content with a "coming soon" label slapped over it, nor waiting for updates to to include content intermittently to make it the complete package I have bought elsewhere. Perhaps we just agree to disagree in our philosophy of how we view games and the environment of game development... And there is nothing wrong with that...
I wonder if this game would have been better served by removing the tactical team aspect and instead focusing on the overall strategy aspect a la plague inc but with all the bells and whistles includes in the game. Obviously to have both full functional would be like ultimate but I can't wait to see if the developer can make this game what I think it could be!
Erm, no. The physical version of Elder Sign doesn't have "campaigns" at all, let alone the same ones from Omens. It has a number of Ancient Ones, but no campaigns, which are exclusive to the app; to be clear, we're talking about the multi-stage Cthulhu, Ithaqua and Dark Pharaoh adventures here, which have no parallels in the physical board game. Omens was also not "beta" software, and its original limitations and trimmed features were intentional as part of the transition to the digital format; it was never intended to be a 1:1 port of the physical game, and was released as a fully functional, complete game in itself. FFG's CEO isn't a fan of digital boardgames – and still isn't convinced by them – and ES:O wasn't even going to be expanded at all until it proved to be such an unexpectedly major hit. The original Omens only included Azathoth as the single available opponent, because that Ancient One is the only one that wins the game automatically and can't be fought by the investigators in a final battle, which was necessary as that feature was not to be included in the digital version ("boss battles" later returned in another form in the expansion campaigns). The other non-campaign AOs that have been added since are largely only different cosmetically, because the game still ends automatically if the doom track fills completely, and still doesn't include their battles or play effects from the physical game. Small World on iOS most certainly does have every single one of the core races included in the base game, and each of the expansions has every race and power from their physical counterparts. Where on Earth are you getting this misinformation from? It's very difficult to take you seriously when you're apparently just guessing. So at this point the most you can come up with is a Pokemon clone, albeit one that definitely is a work in progress by the developer's own admission. That is hardly "most games in the App Store", however. Games have had expansions, addons, patches and updates for decades; these are not in any way new concepts, nor does the existence of such mean that the fully functional software they add on to are unfinished "beta" products. The term "beta" in the software field means something very specific, and you're trying to apply it to situations where it simply doesn't fit. Some of the titles you've pointed to were considered complete when they were released, yet because they've been added to since, you've decided that they can be retroactively classed as incomplete "beta" software. That simply doesn't work.
Star Command was a scam. This game is just too ambitious for its own good. They admit they're a small team. I'd rather have had them limit the scope, but making sure what they had was solid and add from there. This game seems like the "Minecraft" model of buying into a beta. Which only works if people actually buy it to fund further development, and at only $3 I'm skeptical they will make enough... Which is too bad because I like the idea and the basis of what is here. We'll see I guess. I agree with the 148Apps review. I don't dislike the game but... Yeah, just but
We have just submitted the bug fix update version 1.0.1 to Apple. In this update we have addressed 99% of issues brought up by players as well as modified a few things based on feedback. Note, this is just the bug fix update (aside from one new additional map and terrain type), the content update which will be version 1.1.0 will contain additional content (maps, missions) as well as other special features. We hope to bring that to you before the end of June. We'd like to thank you for your continued support as we still have so many more things we will be adding into the game. True, War of the Zombie is a hugely ambitious project for us but it's also our passion (who doesn't love zombies?), so whether we end up having only fifty or amassing fifty thousand fans who love playing the game, we will continue adding and expanding War of the Zombie not only with the things we want but also what the fans want.
This game is a bug ridden nightmare with no (Facebook? Please.) support. I've tried Interview Mission for 3 times, each time game locks itself up.
All depends on Apple, its been submitted, just have to be patient. Devs cant do anything else right now
I am having the opposite experience on an iPad 3. Once I drop my team into a war zone I cannot select the entire team, I can control only one team member, and the rest stand around and shoot their guns randomly at nothing. For me, the game is completely unplayable after the update. Will try to uninstall/reinstall. Already tried rebooting iPad, clearing cache and all that good stuff.
Uninstall and reinstall made game playable again. After update pathfinding a tad better but still problematic. Civilians seeking rescue still get hung up on scenery, but not as bad as pre-update. Things are definitely a little improved. Civilians follow better. Some glitchiness and slowdown. Marines sometimes don't follow commands. Have to regroup them frequently to get them where you want them. This game would benefit from "stay" and "follow" commands for civilians. Pathfinding still needs a lot of work. I like the game a lot but it needs work.
Also, I really wish you could send one or two team members out as scouts without civilians following the one or two guys who leave. It doesn't make any sense. Why would unarmed civilians follow one marine outside when they could stay in a building protected by two or three other marines?
Good Point (even though the VIPs are obnoxious rich folk, relatives of government officials, or high ranking dignitaries, I guess we shouldn't let them wander off out of safety since you can collect a decent reward for rescuing each of them) We are experimenting with a Rally Point feature that will allow players to have VIPs 'rally' at a designated 'point'. This Rally Point can be moveable (relocated by tapping elsewhere) or turned on/off. We believe this would work better then adding more buttons somewhere for each marine to enable/disable VIP follow movement. As to the v1.0.1 update, due to it addressing several key issues from v1.0.0 it is recommended to do a fresh install with v1.0.1 as the v1.0.0 save data can clash with v1.0.1 save data file. So in other words don't continue your previous v1.0.0 save game after updating with v1.0.1, please uninstall the game and then reinstall v1.0.1 (sorry for the inconvenience).
Wow this game is fantastic! If I can pull myself away from the game long enough, I'll leave my imp later. I stayed up way too late playing it last night. Much better after the update indeed. FYI- I needed to start a new game after updating because my old game was unplayable like previously stated above. I didn't need to reinstall, I just started a new game.
I am curious as to what others think of the game now that an update has been issued. I am interested in this title but am holding off on it until it is a little more playable.
