    This game is beyond brilliant!!

Is there a way to save to another save slot (aside from starting a new game)?

And I too would appreciate any help on the 2nd fossil

My core is 42, which I thought was high but now know is not!!
Thanks for that one, macneice4! ;)

    Stuck on The Cascades

I'm stuck on the cascades. Early on (before I knew what I was doing), I planted a bunch of cephads. The acid drips converted them to acid zephads, and then they acidified all the terrain at the top of the level, killing the Ledon Zoa that had floated up there.

I've re-alkalinized those terrain now, but:
    1) two of them contain cephads now that I can't get rid of, because I can't aim Feran seeds up the chutes. And cephads don't have enough biomass.

    2) The Ledon at the bottom of the room aren't producing any more seeds, ever. I've already enriched their soil. So I can't repopulate the top terrain with Ledon.

    3) I can't aim Halid Zoa seeds up the chutes to populate them with halids, either.

There are a few phyta at the bottom of the level. I suppose I could haul halid seeds in ten at a time and multiply them until i hit Biomass 5, but that's going to be a lot of trips. Are there any other options? Any way to get the Ledon producing seeds again?

It's in the same zone where you found the 1st fossil.

    I found a solution.
I killed the Ledon Zoa and planted Halids, and they fed a huge crop of Phyta.

Seriously. Attached is a crop from a screenshot, otherwise unmodified. iPad3 Retina never looked so blocky :) It doesn't matter, it's a super fun game and I'm loving it, but something seems wrong here...

looks like i killed the last blue cephad seed. so is there no way to transform a yellow seed/plant into a blue?
i have 3 in "the cascades" but they're on the upper wall, and every time a plant spits one out they burst on the rock.

You can turn a yellow to blue with a blue seed, if that's what you're asking. I'm not sure what you mean about not being able to get seeds from the blues that are there though. I don't know a single place in the game where you can't just stay in front of a plant and get a seed from it.

Hi. New to the forums and need some help.
I have been to the power station and feed to seeds to double the power. My power is now and 72 and I am getting a prompt to go back to the power station but I have no idea what I am supposed to do
    Fantastic game by the way.

    Hey dclose,

Yeah.... Base Camp is SORT OF ridiculous. We kind of turned it into a joke
(the music, the folding chair, the basketball hoop, etc).

The player character source art is only so many pixels high. When we zoom the camera in that closely -- which only really happens in Base Camp -- the character appears super blocky. It should look perfectly acceptable in pretty much all other game scenarios. Sorry if that's distracting to you! You shouldn't be spending toooo much time in Base Camp anyway :)

If you're at 72, you're done with the power station and you should have a mission objective telling you to return to the helm.

Yeah, I was hoping there would be an achievement for getting a basket. :)

Thanks for the explanation. I was wondering what happened with that graphic, and I'm glad to hear it's an art issue (that you can't do anything about) rather than a bug.

Maybe as an add-on you could expand the base camp and make a Tomb Raider style obstacle course with secret areas to discover? :)

    Dear David / Tiger Style,

When I got the new iPad, this game was already on my wishlist when I had the iPad 2.
Then I saw it got updated with Retina graphics plus a price drop and just had to grab a copy.

What I experienced then has only been accomplished by Sword & Sorcery and Incoboto thusfar. Both Incoboto and now Waking Mars have proved me wrong that I would never experience this kind of quality and uniqueness ever again.
This is my first Tiger Style experience and hereby you guys have a huge new fan from The Netherlands!

I take art as it is and as the developer intended it to be, so I "sunk" into the experience without judging the design choices.
Really glad that -after reading the entire thread- you guys never decided to change the art direction regarding the portraits in the game.
Also: the music is absolutely fantastic. Fits the visuals perfectly for me and love the diversity.

Haven't finished Waking Mars yet (by far), but I'll follow your future projects with great anticipation. ;)

Here on my notes on the game. It's one of my favorite games ever. It's not a complete walkthrough, but maybe someone will find it useful.

    1. Outpost
    2. First Encounter
    3. Melted Well
    4. New Life: 1st time to get Hydron seed
    5. Newton's Corner: gain Biomass detector
    6. Aggressive Erosion
    7. Chamber of Columns: find 0CT0's camera module #1, after returning to the Outpost the ground will collapse and you can never go to the early levels anymore
    8. Recovery: you start without any of the seeds you had before, Phyta become active at Biomass 2
    9. Hourglass: feed Phyta a Halid Zoa to reach Biomass 3
    10. This Bites: 1st time to find Prax seeds (cannot produce yet)
    11. Prax Lair: get to the exit safely; no need to plant seeds unless you want to plant Halid seeds to heal
    12. Lost Mars: 1st time can produce Prax seeds (Prax feeds on Phyta & Cycot to produce Prax seed), try to collect 5 Prax seeds here - they are hard to find; find 0CT0's camera module #2; find MegaZoa #1: Periscope
    13. Noctis Labyrinthus: Bizania cerebrane to outside, exit the cave and enter the cave opening below
    14. Harvester: 1st time to see Enriched soil (cannot produce Enriched soil yet though); 1st time see Biomass 4 Cerebrane; need Biomass 5 to activate Harvester
    15. The Crossing: 1st time to see Larian (need Biomass 2 before they are active) (there are no Phyta on this level to feed the Larian); give Larian a Halid Zoa to move the tentacle up
    16. Vertical Shaft: optional quest: stand on top of quartz peak to speak with Amani
    17. The Reservoir: water Ledon to produce Ledon seeds (you cannot carry Ledon seeds to other areas)
    18. Written in Stone: 1st place to make compost (Larian eat Phyta & Cycot and produce red compost which you can make soil enriched); find 0CT0's camera module #3 (lower left Cerebrane requires Biomass 5) [camera has picture of fossil]; find another fossil in the upper right part of screen
    19. Canyon Vista: Bizania cerebrane to outside, exit the cave and enter the cave opening below
    20. The Hallows: give Cycot a Halid Zoa - it will bring it back to the hive; when the hive gets 4 Halid Zoa, it will produce 1 more Cycot; don't enter Cycot hive or the Cycots will attack you

    Section Descriptions - Part 2

    21. Broken Reservoir: 1st go to Canyon Vista to bizania cerebrane to fix bizania cerebrane in Broken Reservoir, then go to Lethe Gorge (exit to Cascades from inside the garden or you will go to Feranmaxes screen) to fix the roots, then plant Ledon Zoa in all spots (only Ledon Zoa can reach Biomass 5 here)
    22. The Cascades: plant Ledon Zoa at bottom after fixing Broken Reservoir, the seeds will float up and plant in the upper sections
    23. Lethe Gorge: need to block spores from touching roots to let roots touch floor, later plant red Feran seed to open cerebrane to "At the Gates" screen
    24. Hopes and Fears: leads to Base Camp, use 4 Feran Zoa to open wall (wait a bit and get some Feran Zoa in "Magma Chamber" screen)
    25. Base Camp: receive jetpack upgrade #1: improved speed; the game makes it seems like you shouldn't return to Base Camp, but there is no downside to going
    26. Feranmaxes: find 0CT0's camera module #4 (lower Cerebrane requires Biomass 4); find Feran seeds on ledges near magma; increase biomass from Cycots
    27. Devil Islands: build Cycot until Biomass 4, then hurry to cerebrane opening at right to get Phyta seeds, then plant Prax and feed Phyta to Prax to get Biomass 5
    28. The Power Station: gain Core meter (Harvester contributes 1 unit of core power at Biomass 4 and 2 units at Biomass 5); can talk with Amani at top of Core peak; there is 1 Feran Zoa to the left of the Core
    29. The Meadow: huge chamber to raise plants, do not plant red Feran seeds or will dominate
    30. Magma Chamber: best spot to get red Feran seeds
    31. What Will Rise: plant as many Ledon Zoa as possible - the seeds will float up and plant in the upper section; this is good place to use red compost to add 15 Biomass to Ledon Zoa; throw Halid Zoa seeds in the bottom to plant
    32. The Signal Chamber: approach the object in the middle, then approach all the rock formations above
    33. Larian Gauntlet: get to the exit safely; great place to get compost - just be sure not to kill off all Phyta
    34. Chamber of Echoes: enter the inside of the plant at the entrance on the right side of screen
    35. Missing Pieces: there are several sections to this screen and several Cerebrane that require different levels of Biomass to open; optional quest: water the pod then open it with a Feran seed (it doesn't do anything - it's just a hint to later)
    36. Enrichment: go to Lethe Gorge and bring Acidic Cephad spore and change whole level to Feran; at the bottom left: collect all alkaline spores and throw in magma, then convert to Feran Zoa before converting section to the left to Feran Zoa; convert rightmost magma section to alkaline then plant Ledon Zoa; when finished: you can use compost on the rest of the Ledon Zoa (get compost from "Larian Gauntlet") then convert the left Feran Zoa rooms back to acidic Cephad and alkaline Cephad as a backup for Lethe Gorge
    37. Last Rites: use red Feran seed to blast through rock to upper left cave; use Cephad spore to convert soils to alkaline then plant Halid Zoa; Find 0CT0's body, receive jetpack upgrade #2: hover ability
    38. At the Gates: convert Lethe Gorge to Feran Zoa to open Cerebrane to enter "At the Gates" (can convert back to Cephad Zoa after opening Cerebrane at Biomass 3); can use red Feran seed to blast wall at top right
    39. Inside the Core: enter the crack in the Core to "the Helm"
    40. The Helm: throw a Hydron seed at a pod then throw a Feran seed to open the pod; stand on the platform to the lower right of the pods; you will be transported the "The Meadow"; exit the screen and you will see the 1st ending; re-load your game and you'll start at "The Helm"; speak with the Sentients again; go to the platform to the lower left of the pods; go to Power Station and stand on the Core under the Sentient; give the Sentient the seeds it wants (Hydron, Prax, Alkaline Cephad, Feran, Acidic Cephad) and the Power Station will be restored (Biomass 4 give 2 Core, Biomass 5 give 4 Core); return to "The Helm"; when you reach Core 50, you will see "A Light Into Space"; when you reach Core 60, go to the platform to the lower left of the pods; if you exit the Helm quickly, you will see Ending 2, if you stay in the Helm you will see Ending 3

    Plants & Seeds

Plant Name | Soil | Regular Biomass | Enriched Biomass | Seed | Notes
    1. Halid Zoa | Alkaline | 15 | 40 | green | watering the soil will give 20 Biomass; collecting a seed while injured will heal you
    2. Hydron Zoa | Alkaline | 10 | 15 | blue
    3. Prax Zoa | Acidic | 40 | N/A | yellow | if it eats a Phyta or Cycot, it'll give a Prax seed
    4. Ledon Zoa | Alkaline | 35 | 50 | floating seeds | cannot take Ledon seeds to other areas, water Ledon Zoa to produce seeds; enriched soil will make larger seeds which are easier to move around
    5. Feran Zoa | Acidic | 30 | N/A | red | explosive seeds can kill other plants, seeds can break through walls
    6. Cephad Zoa: Acidic | Acidic | 5 | N/A | orange | kills Alkaline Cephad Zoa, Halid Zoa, Hydron Zoa, and Ledon Zoa
    7. Cephad Zoa: Alkaline | Alkaline | 5 | N/A | purple | kills Acidic Cephad Zoa, Prax Zoa, and Feran Zoa
    8. Larian | N/A | 30 | N/A | immobile: hang from ceiling with tentacle | if it eats a Phyta or Cycot, it'll drop a red compost which will make a soil patch enriched; cannot reproduce; can kill with a red Feran seed, but Larian have 30 Biomass so try not to kill
    9. Phyta | N/A | 5 | N/A | mobile: bug | eats a Halid Zoa then sheds skin to make 1 new Phyta
    10. Cycots | N/A | 30 | N/A | mobile: floating, from hive | brings Halid Zoa to hive, 4 Halid Zoa will make 1 new Phyta
    11. MegaZoa | N/A | N/A | N/A | large Zoa, 5 types | Periscope (Lost Mars), Harvester (Harvester), Hydronmaxis (Reservoir), Feranmaxis (Feranmaxes), Levitroph (What Will Rise)

How does this game run on the iPad 2? I remember reading somewhere that this game suffered from occasional frame rate issues.

Hey David - not sure if you're still on this thread, but just in case you are: Waking Mars has pretty much restored my faith in the possibility of an intelligent, absorbing game that doesn't require mindless shooting. Beautiful art and really brilliant music as well. It's one of my favourite games ever. Keep up the great work and I really look forward to whatever Tiger style do next!

The iPad 2 is our best performing iOS device (except maybe the 4s). Waking Mars is pretty much a solid 60fps throughout on the iPad 2.
