Ayjona, I did read this when you first posted it, and I appreciate it. You may, in fact, be right that the support is fairly straightforward to implement in a naive case. In our case, what makes it complicated is that when you start to play the game, we load your save game session -- the data about the current game and the current level. So when do we retrieve data from iCloud? If we do this when the game is running, it would be complicated to resolve conflicts -- we can't interrupt the game you're playing. If we do this as a user-driven function (more likely to happen) we have to add UI support so we can make sure the player actually wants to clobber their local saves with whatever is saved on iCloud and then make sure we block them until the savegame is retrieved and then load the game from the iCloud save. And because we have a lot of files (one per level visited in each session)... it's complicated. I love the tech and would ideally support it but if it happens, it's not going to happen in the very near future. Not totally ruling it out!
Game Impressions Incredible game and...WHAT AN INCREDIBLE ENDING SEQUENCE. Ended the game yesterday at about 8 hours and was absolutely amazed by the ending (I mean not only the last cutscenes, but the whole last 1 hour)....only just to discover it's just the first one....working my way for the second one (how many are there?). 3 hours AFTER the first ending...I discovered two new zones!!! Working my way with the incredible ecosystem TigerStyle created for the game...I bet a lot of background research went into this game because it transpires realism, elegance and awe from every spore One of the best experience I ever had with a videogame since Pong, on any platform. If possible, TigerStyle should port this game on every other platform...every gamer that loves scifi should play it imho. Spider was good with a peculiar storytelling but here TigerStyle has really outdone themselves. BTW: +1 to iCloud support if possibile....I want to secure my savegames because I sense I'll replay it several times in the course of the years (like I do with Another World and recently Sword&Sworcery). Even a manual upload/download would do. I felt like a complete idiot being dubious if to buy it or not from videos...whatever TigerStyle will do in the future will have my complete attention. Really, thanks. Little question about second ending: SPOILER: Spoiler How many power does the core have to have to trigger the second platform/ending? I'm at 42 now... END SPOILER Back to the Red Planet....
Thanks! Ouch...working my way towards it. I must say that trying to get the second ending seems like a game in the game. I achieved the first ending with 80 percent exploration and 20 percent doing...well you know...playing the alien exobiologist. The second part...in the beginning I thought it was a bit slow..I was trying to Spoiler gain biomass simply replicating those cool little aliens...I have so many in some stages the iPhone 4S seems to implode...but it was slow at 10 green seeds at the time...then I learnt how to 'exchange' plants for more valuable ones And it's like a big puzzle game inside the game...and pretty hard too I must confess. Soooooooooo good.
For some reason I was never able to get into Spider and lost interest long before it was over, so I'm worried the same will happen with this, but I do find the game intriguing, especially after the TA review. Still, I'm definitely having a hard time pulling the trigger. I wish there was Lite version to try.
almost perfect... except... My own review of this one, taken from iTunes. I don't often leave full on reviews, but felt this one was deserving. Gameplay: 5/5 Story/Concept: 5/5 Gameplay art: 5/5 Immersion: 5/5 Re-play value: 4/5 ... but then we get to: ... Cinematics/Cut Scenes: 0/5 Seriously. Someone really dropped the ball here. Not enough to make me rate it less than 4 stars. (It's that good a game.) But enough so that it's a disappointment. The lead astronaut is fine; I have no problem with him. And the AI robot is fine too, though a bit silly at times. But where we have a massive failure is in the Technician character. She's utterly ridiculous. Like something out of a bad Michael Bay movie combined with the corniest of the so-called "brainy, cute, prodigious nerd" cliche. The photos they use make her appear to be in a state of constant flirtation with the lead astronaut. And her dialogue is always expository, always clunky, always pandering, and never believable. To sum up... her scenes interrupt an otherwise elegant game, and chip away at any credibility earned from the rest of the storyline, moving us from Arthur C. Clarke to the very worst of hollywood and anime cliches. On another note... I have to mention the music. I feel another ball was dropped here. Not as severely, because I can just turn the music off (and it doesn't hurt the game)... but still something I should note, especially since this is the field I work in. I can't necessarily fault the composer; I don't know the situation... whether the devs asked for this, or simply licensed from a library, or what, but the electro dance/beats soundtracks is a disappointment. I feel that a game like this would benefit from the kind of grandeur and timelessness than an orchestral score can provide. Think Holst. Think Williams, Horner, Goldsmith. Imagine exploring Mars while hearing eerie strings, a lone oboe, the occasional brass grunt. So much more immersive and interesting. So much more dimension. Oh well. Almost a classic. Nearly reaching the heights of games like Flow, Zen Bound, Osmos, and World of Goo. But not quite.
another example... Incidentally, I had nearly the same exact problem with the Samurai games by Madfinger. Beautiful gameplay. Ridiculous cutscenes and dialogue. It's like two different teams worked on it.
Stuck! Howdy, everyone. I've already beaten the game, but decided I wanted to go back and earn the 2nd ending. However, I'm stuck at Spoiler the Broken Reservoir. I've already planted the Bizania cerebrane and managed to melt the ice leading to The Cascades directly beneath it. At this point, I'm directed to investigate The Cascades to find out how to restore the water. However, upon entering The Cascades, I'm then directed to restore the Broken Reservoir before I can do anything in the Cascades. How do I proceed?? Please feel free to leave a detailed answer, cause I am really itching to just get this sequence started. Thanks!
Great, just bought it and found a bug install game, open, begin game, pass first dialogue, go into the menus, click on "how to play" and BAM!, out goes the game into the desktop. Luckily for the devs, I found the reason: it has to do with the phone's language settings. I'm from Spain, so my phone is set to Spanish language. As soon as I turned the phone language to English, the bug disappeared and I saw the "how to play" screens. I hope the bug is easily fixed, because I prefer having my phone in Spanish language setting...
Whats the decision you make at the end, i finished the game and it was a bit confused about what happened. Toucharcade said you make a decision about the fate of mars
Yeah, we fixed this for the 1.1 update, which should go out the door sometime this week. Sorry about that!
Hey there Register! Sounds like Spoiler something might be a bit busted in Cascades with the mission objectives, but what you're supposed to do is follow the roots down to their source. In the level Lethe Gorge you should notice that these roots are in need of attention If you want further info, don't hesitate to ask!
Ended the game completely (I think) at 108 percent...saw all 3 endings. Amazing, really... BTW, just to be sure....are really the ending 3 (or 2.5)? I saw: Spoiler 1) Normal ending, where you grow plant lifeforms on Mars 2) Special ending where you activate the huge starship, and get out BEFORE it lift off, ending with Amani in the base. 3) Special ending where you remain in the huge starship and get in the cryostasis chamber Is there anything else? (not that I'm complaining, each ending was really rewarding and the game was the PERFECT lenght even if I want a sequel now ).
I'm a little late to the party here but add me to the list of believers. This game is ridiculously easy to lose yourself in and minutes can turn into hours before you know it. Yeah the game isn't perfect, some cut-scenes or something would have been nice, and yeah the portraits are terrible, but I find it easy to ignore them, overall this game is a masterpiece and anyone sitting on the fence, just go ahead and support this dev
