At least it's still payable. I remember about ROGUE SKY from Chillingo that has $.99 Special Launch Price and then it went FREE. What was the supposed price for that one? Nobody knows!!
Eh.... guys... it's just a dollar.... I can understand if it's like 4.99 to .99 dollars (yes, I'm looking at you Scribblenauts), but honestly? let's simmer down. k? k. anyways, I grabbed it on account of it being different from other word games :3 hopefully will have fun.
Just curious, but is this really that good? Just by looking at it, it doesn't look to fun (based on my guess of what to do). And generally I'm a fan of word games (to an extent, more non-iOS though). Not about their ethics in price-drops, but....is it good?
Again, it's not a matter of price, it's a matter of ethics. The earliest and most loyal supporters having to pay more than the fly-by-night impulse buyer who pays less for the same game a week later (like myself) is a load of crap. Get it? Yes, I bought it, and enjoy the hell out of the game. I agree it's worth the asking price many times over, but if there were some extra 0's attached to the prices (you paying $200 and me paying $100 a week later) would you sing a different tune?
Just wondering, but do you basically switch around letters to form words on the map? If so, I might think about passing just because that style doesn't sound too fun to me...
You just contradicted yourself. You explicitly said it wasn't about the price. No shit it would make a difference if you added 0's. He said it'd be different if they were just $60 games. Work out your argument better next time.
This isn't an ethical issue. You can't seriously believe that they did something morally wrong by dropping the price of their product. The price of just about everything goes down with time.
@Quazonk: I know how you feel. Don't bother arguing. I know it seems like if you just point one more thing out the penny will drop and they'll get it. They won't. Let it go.
Yeah, basically it's bejeweled with words but you have to make 4-letter words or more and you can swap all way (horizontal, vertical, diagonal). But there are some interesting swap way like with "reverse" you can form "KRAB" into "BARK" and with "group" you can form "IDSLAN" into "ISLAND". Since it's like bejeweled, sometimes certain swaps make random words. The good things about it is that I can tap for its definition (I've just learned the word NIPA from this game which means a palm tree). And it has no time limit, just pure high score zen word game.
Seriously, wtf is all this crap. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me?" If it's happened before on the AppStore, which it does WEEKLY, it 's going to happen again. Get used to it. Developers set too high of an expectation for a game in terms of price points. There's nothing they can do about that. They can either raise the price as said and completely stop selling at all, or they can lower their price further or keep it at the same price in order to stay visible on the AppStore. Visibility is all that matters on the AppStore. Quality means nearly nothing unlike console games. It's not like the developers are conning you into buying their game at a higher price. Their expectation was that they'd be able to raise the price after a time period because they thought sales would have been higher. They did the only thing they can to continue their revenue stream. These people are workers too. This is their salary. It's not a matter of ethics. Especially for those of you who have been on TA for a good amount of time, you should know how elastic the market is. Seriously, calm down. Yes, it is just a dollar, no more, no less. Be more careful when buying "launch specials" if you really care. There's nothing else you can do about it. I'm no game developer, but I can easily see that the AppStore is probably one of the hardest places to sell a game for indie devs. They adapt to the rapidly changing market. There's nothing else they can do. You're not buying $60 games that drop to $30 a week later. Please stop making it seem like the price isn't what's important. Your opportunity cost for being able to own the game two weeks before everyone else was $0.99. That's all there is to it. Like I said, if it really matters to you, watch out for these "launch specials" in the future.
People are too quick to forget they got the game right away because it was exciting, because there was a community of common souls who wanted the game At That Time. So what if it costs a buck or two extra to join that community. It's worth it. So stop complaining as though you got nothing out of it.
wtf Lmao, these people are trying to earn money. I'm pretty sure they feel bad if you tell them how disgusted you feel being "pillaged and raped" from your dollar but don't be selfish like that. ***Sarcasm on*** Or maybe you are absolutely right to complain and they should put the price up as intended, even if they stop selling at all and can't even break even. Who cares about them as long as you feel comfortable about your "1 dollar ethics". ***Sarcasm off*** Have a great day
In regard of this price drop problem, I think the decision from W.E.L.D.E.R. to drop the price after stating 50% launch sale IS NOT WISE but is not wrong. In my opinion, anybody who launches the game at SALE PRICE should raise their game's price to the original BEFORE dropping the price lower. At least for a day because then it doesn't feel that the launch sale is a lie. The good things are that early adopters think they get a deal (50% sale) and new adopters will think is an awesome deal (75%drop). Everybody's happy!
No, I didn't contradict myself, I explicitly said it wasn't about price, and stuck to this. The "adding 0's" point was in response to someone who said it didn't matter since we're only talking about a few bucks. I was asking if it would become a matter of ethics to him if we were talking about more money. I personally DON'T think it would make a difference if you added the 0's. See? Work out your response to my argument better next time.
Do you want me to break down your sentence for you? You asked him if he'd be singing a different tune if the price was dramatically higher. The answer is yes. He already answered that in his previous post. Please stop trying to protect the "common man" in any case. You don't even feel like you've been wronged, so please stop speaking out for other people. Money will always be what drives the industry.
I should point out I emailed the dev about a bug I found and also mentioned the firestorm in here. He clearly stated the decision to lower the game further was made by the publisher and not himself.
I think I'd like you to break down my sentences for you, not me. Might have saved you from making a few silly replies. And I am speaking for myself, not in this particular case since I was on the benefitting end of the price drop this time, but I have been the one to pay $5 for an app upon release, only to see it drop to $.99 a week later, and it pisses me off. lol @ "stop speaking out for other people" as you speak out for someone else in this very post.
Nice edit. I'll pass on responding to your latest post though. What I really wanted to say here was my post at the top of the page. Don't want to waste any more of either of our time arguing.
Wow. Ok, well, I'm sure you get it... but so do I. Ethics Schmetics, people feel cheated because the devs didn't stick to their guns about pricing? As pointed out by several, if they're going to sell on the app store, they have to REACT to sales pattern. I'm sure they mapped out a pricing strategy but to survive in any market you have to react to whatever happens around you and that means plans change on the fly. Put it another way, if this is an ethics issue, then this is pretty much saying the devs are trying to screw people over by maliciously changing the price of the app to server their purpose and screw others. Ok, I'll buy that, except I'll change the word "malicious" and replace it with it with "using their survival instincts". I'm not crapping on you, I can appreciate the frustration, but it just seems to be a straw hat argument and IMHO it seems to denigrate devs who are just trying to survive. I suspect this will be one of those agree to disagree. I'll just end my take with the following and you can certainly have the last word if you wish, but I find it incredible that the question of ethics pops up on a price drop. Not an app full of iAP where they'll make a mint more, not an artificial price increase for a HD product that didn't cost more to make, but a freaking price drop that lets good people play the game at dirt cheap prices. Well, may every dev on earth get this ethics affliction... please... and I will continue to pay a premium of $1 happily in support for all devs if I feel their game is worth the $2. If it can mean my fellow man who wants to save a buck can indeed do so, I'm happy... just as long as the game does not suck I'mmmm outtaaaa hheeeerrreeee!!! Loaf
