Very pleasant art style, fast reaction mechanics and such an encouraging instructor (I'm their favorite student)! (⌐■‿■) This needs ads (and ad removal IAP, of course)! Edit: For a few minutes in which I was completely offline (I'm always on mobile data), I went back to play it and now, even though championships appear unlocked, my first place and times in the "Chill" category/AI speed are gone. I set the difficulty/AI level to Legendary and then to Normal, just to check how difficult the game becomes and... wow, it's pretty hard; maybe because I'm only at level 6? Nonetheless, the game is fun and modifiers make it more challenging and interesting. Update history says more stuff is in the works, so I'm really looking forward to what the dev adds. This being my first published game, I'm thrilled that it has found an audience (over 12k installs within the first month, well beyond anything I'd hoped for)! Yeah you are! Yup, no monetization! I might consider creating an IAP to unlock the more ambitious bits of my roadmap once they're done, but my intention is to keep the base game completely free and without ads. Oh no! That should definitely not happen, all of your results are stored locally on your device. If you don't have a data connection, it should queue those results to be uploaded the next time you open the game (unfortunately you have to fully close/reopen to trigger this, one of my todo items is to improve this syncing function). I'll take a look and tighten up any issues that could lead to results disappearing. As far as future updates, my immediate roadmap consists of Vroomie Editor (coming in the next update). Your customized Vroomie will also appear next to your results on the leaderboard. Leaderboard entries will also have more details, like what level the player was when they recorded their time. Adding more championships! Instead there being one rookie/pro/all star/expert championship, each tier will have multiple championships. Beating any one of them unlocks the next tier. Alex Taber Member Mar 11, 2024 7 5 3 Male #15 Alex Taber, Mar 19, 2024 Update 1.1.0 just launched! Features You can now Vroom in style with the Vroomie Editor! There is more i'd like to here, such as adding more patterns and unlockable animations for celebrating/spinning. But I felt it was important to go ahead and get this initial version out there. Changes Update Leaderboard UI to include players' customized Vroomies next to their leaderboard entries Rename AI Speed -> Difficulty Rename difficulties to Chill/Normal/Challenge/Champion/Legendary Remove Push Mode upgrade, now replaced by the Vroom Mode skill Add Vroom Mode skill. This works the same as Push Mode, but is now unlocked after beating any Championship on Champion difficulty, after which it is always available. Legendary difficulty is also now unlocked after beating any Championship on Champion difficulty Add Vroom Mode tutorial Compress music for smaller bundle size Race Start timing is no longer variable. This is because the best players were grinding to get impossibly good launches by restarting the Championship over and over. While it may be much easier now to anticipate the lights going out and getting a perfect launch, it's now more of a skill than a luck element. Accordingly, AI race start reaction time has been adjusted. At higher difficulties, the AI will react faster. Equip "Slow Down Time" upgrade by default for new players. Hopefully this smooths the learning curve at the start of the game a bit more. Fixes Fix issue where Landing Nodes would trigger hit sound after the race is over Next on the roadmap is adding content - more Tracks, Championships and Upgrades. I've been wrestling with this, I could see a few options for monetization (that don't involve ads, which I'd like to avoid): go full Dwarf Fortress and just keep pushing endless updates to my free game cut off this version of vroomies as the free base game, and move future development behind an IAP don't release any major new features, save it all for a potential Vroomies 2 and look for a publisher Of those options, honestly the 1st sounds like the most fun for me. It feels good to provide something that people are enjoying that is as accessible as possible! I may change my mind someday - I've been playing around with keyboard/controller control schemes that work surprisingly well, so perhaps a paid Steam release in the future. Yeaaaah, that's my bad I think Vroomies does a decent job of incorporating some elements of real racing that are interesting, but it should have been more obvious to me that variable race start timing was a source of confusion rather than fun. Thanks so much, I hope you like it! andreadeda Well-Known Member Mar 6, 2013 174 43 28 #19 andreadeda, Mar 19, 2024 I appreciate your view. Maybe, as a suggestion in order to keep the random start, you could make red lights act as a cue, which is what I actually thought was the point for getting it right: I was counting to 4 using the red lights' "beat" as a guide before start; it only worked once, though. So, have the red lights countdown act as some sort of metronome and make the tempo the random element. And for people who like it simple, let them keep a regular countdown. This could be treated as a modifier! As for monetizing, andreadeda's suggestion is excellent. That way you won't be forcing people to pay for benefits such as ad removal and at the same time you'll get gratitude, beyond praise, in the form of financial support, even if it's not your main goal right now. Also, you get to keep your dwarf fortress, with a few "cracks" big enough to let some coins pass through. You can put that money in a piggy bank with the title Vroomie2 on it, "Next year's grApple developer license", or whatever project you may have. Keep in mind you created something of high quality, FOR FREE, that's a lot better than average "free" games on the AppStore. You're quite a humble person in my opinion, which is great and I can comprehend how you feel... but, apparently, we don't seem to fully understand (or care?) about how you feel towards monetizing and some of us want to give you a buck or two, or maybe more (big whales lurk in the shadows), for what you've created.
