Thought I'd start a thread for this as poor WIFI connection is the only thing I'm having problems with on the Vita. It appears I'm not alone either, but for some people WIFI is absolutely fine.

    The issue
My Vita struggles to get more than 1 bar of WIFI unless I'm 10 feet from the router. At home I'm using Sky broadband (UK). My iPad 2, Laptop (4 yr old Dell), iPhone and everything else people have bought into my flat over the last 4 years always get great wireless reception, rarely dropping a bar (it's a small 1 floor flat).
What's odd is that my Vita always picks up another Sky WIFI connection somewhere in my block of flats - showing 2 bars of reception regardless of where I'm in my flat.

    At work
Ok, so I shouldn't really even be using my Vita at work :D... nonetheless, WIFI issues are worse here. I have an Apple Airport Extreme hub in my office.. iPad etc all work with full reception as I'm rarely more than 5 feet from the router. When I power the Vita out of standby, I'm connected to my work network but with just the dot of reception, right next to the router. If I then disconnect from works WIFI and then connect again I get full reception...?!? That is until I put it into standby where it'll revert to just having a dots worth of reception (psn etc wont work with this).

I've tried messing around with router settings, changing channels etc, but this hasn't helped at all.

What are your experiences with WIFI on the Vita? Do you think this is software or hardware related?

Note: My Vita is the WIFI only model.

I'm not really having any issues, I'm about 5 - 10 meters about our router with 2 walls between me and it, but I still get a signal strength of about 40% (wich is a bar and that dot).

As long as everything works (wich it does) I don't really care about what it shows there.

I'm also using the Wifi model too btw.

No issues for me either maybe it's the make or configuration of your router, I'm using a quite old Linksys WRT54G and getting full bars. Ironicly my iPod does have issues with my router occasionally, I had to turn off wifi syncing because it kept crashing it.

edit : also using the wifi only model if it's of interest.

I haven't really experienced any problems with wifi signal strength- but I have noticed that the position it is in/how you are holding it affects it a bit. If you set the Vita down on a cushy surface touchpad down, the wifi does have a weaker signal. Covering the back seems to affect it slightly- but that's just what I've noticed. I do know that sometimes the wifi will turn off to save power when playing some games (which is kind of annoying) and I used to think something was wrong until I read about it being a power saving feature.

Would you not say that's weak though? With 5-10 meters my ipad will always get at least 2 bars. I don't believe the dot counts as 1 bar... as i've not been able to browse or connect to psn with just the dot.

It could be an issue with my router, although it acts oddly with the Airpot Extreme at work too.... I've not used a device in the last 5 years that was fussy with wifi router settings etc, perhps I've just been lucky.

Does standy mode kill wifi connection & psn by default?

Yep, but I think if you're downloading something it will stay connected. There isn't any way to turn the feature off though. Some games kill the wifi too- Uncharted: Golden Abyss is a great example of that. It's supposed to be a power saving feature, but it can kind of get annoying, especially because it's not a setting.

Downloading paused for me when I put it in standby mode. Isn't it bizarre that games would kill wifi... in this era of 'always on' it just feels like such a step back. Why not just leave the decision with the user??!

Based on the poll - I'm starting to wonder if I've got a faulty unit :/

Downloading will stop if you put it in standby mode yourself(press the power button once), but if you let the system go to sleep by itself, the download should continue.

I haven't had any problems with the Wifi myself.
