Also, now that I just noticed this let me say that the gore in that game is really really fake looking. Not to say that kids really shouldn't be playing it. Idk how they could handle it, I probably would have freaked a few years ago. Now I love it. At least there's an option to turn it off, which many probably use.

you are always going to get nut jobs.
if there werent video games.. itd be.. my toaster told me to kill them or something else.

I headbutted my step mum when i was drunk once.. not too hard .. and shes never let me forget it. she blamed games.. rather than the booze... which i believe is far more likely.

still.. the end of level boss was defeated.. and i moved onto the next level.

Excessive violence, gore, horror, blood splattering, mass murder, gun upgrading, and demons of hell.... perfect! I am a gamer girl who loves horror games. Definitely makes great practice if I ever find myself alone in a dark alley Freddy Krueger style!

I can't believe I missed this thread.. I haven't read the whole thing but I will after I post.

I think it is perfectly acceptable. I think the people that cry out against violent games are ridiculous. I have posted consistent thoughts on both the Aves thread and the MW:2 thread- we are talking about video games here; digital entertainment. People need to understand the difference between games and reality. I especially get irritated when people are selective about what qualifies as violence. Millions of people (literally) have no problem terrorizing 'innocent' 'people' in GTA. Yet they are appalled by the realism of Aves and MW2. Yeah I get they're realistic... Let's dumb down games so hippies and members of PETA don't get in a fit.

BR: excellent analogy in the Aves thread. There is no difference between Duck Hunt and Aves except for technology, realism, and 25 years/

Violence in video games is just a scapegoat for some people to use to try and find some single, defining, answer as to why some people do bad things.

I always find it funny when I see some interview on TV with Jack Thompson or some other person so completely out of touch with young people, that claims that violence in video games leads to violence in real life. They quote statistics from some fake, half-ass done research where they magically link violent people with video games, ignoring the fact that it's more likely that these people already have violent tendencies, and are therefore attracted to violent video games. Not the other way around, where a violent video game corrupts some poor innocent 15 year old whose parents miraculously kept him sheltered from his peers and reality.

Now what do I personally think about violence in video games? It's like violence in movies, sometimes, given the subject matter, they go hand in hand. It's hard to have a tough gritty shooter without a ton of blood and gore.

However, also like movies, some games are guilty of using too much violence as a means to try and bring in "hardcore" or older gamers, thinking that violence and gore is the primary selling point to those people. Although honestly, it's not as bad as when a movie throws in some random violence.

I used to play Clowns on my dad's VIC-20 when I was a kid, now I'm afraid of falling from heights and dying. Thanks, video games.

Honestly though, violence is fine in games. It's fine in movies, music, television, books, whichever form of media you can name. Some kid could just as easily go nuts and do something terrible after playing a video game as they could after reading a book.

If I play it for more than an hour, I get a massive headache and get like dazed. Like I feel like Im still in the game, its pretty annoying. It takes me 5+ hours of halo for that, and no ammount of COD4 does that to me. That game is INTENSE. After playing that then going to halo, you cant justify JUST killing an enemy. You have to shoot their dead body to make sure there is a lot of blood, you know to quench your thirst (no chainsaws in halo :()

or maybe me playing GOW is a public safety hazard?

Thank you sir. This is what I've thought for years after watching those stupid reports where the idiot criminal psychologist blames his violence on playing games with violence in it. If you're that unstable that you're being messed up by those games, don't play them! Who remembers the days when Mortal Kombat was being attacked left and right for having violence, which by today's standards looks somewhat mild?

My biggest thing though is why they don't attack movies or other forms of entertainment. I honestly have never played a game that had more violence and gore than an average horror movie. Why aren't they being attacked for having the violence? Also, books can get quite violent, even though there's no image. The words have a strong enough description to give you a good image, and it can be quite violent. Out of all the forms of entertainment, I'd think of gaming as being relatively mild.

It's almost ironic that the very existence of people like Jack Thompson edges many of us that little bit closer to murder.
