See: http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/04/verizon-breaks-first-day-sales-record-with-iphone-4-pre-orders/ Wow. That's sales only to existing customers, not new ones as this was an early pre-order for existing customers only. No actual word on the sales figures, just that it broke a one day record for Verizon, whatever the total was.
I would actually like to see the numbers. As of late the top 3 selling Verizon phones are: 1. Moto RAZR 2. Moto Droid 3. Moto Droid X The OG Droid set a record itself so it'd be interesting to see how much this topped it.
Some speculation (of course, there always must be speculation with Verizon vis-a-vis the iPhone) so nothing definitive. But based on what the projected sales would be; the amount Verizon ordered, etc, the number has been estimated to 400,000 - 500,000 in less than 2 hours in the wee hours of the morning. The thing is this was only for existing Verizon customers so who knows if that is correct or not. Who knows if this was today or not. Who knows if Verizon is creating a panic shortage to increase day of release sales. Just who knows.
