I own Alpha, Ardan, Catherine, Celeste, Fortress, Kestrel, Koshka, Skye and Vox. I usually end up playing roam (Cath or Fort) because I refuse to instalock. Do you enjoy playing Fortress? If so, out of my list, who would you like me to learn? I'm usually decent at stutter stepping, but I have limited time in lane. I've enjoyed Vox, Kestrel and Skye when I've gotten a chance to play them, though I was pretty mediocre because getting to play them is rare and I have no practice.
Just play whoever you'd like. I have most of the characters and don't mind playing jungle or lane. I just usually pick roam because most people lock jungle and lane so I just go right to Fortress roam.
By the way, a tip to play with guildmates more often: don't launch straight into the queue: launch Vainglory and keep an eye on the player list for 5 minuteseven 2 minutesand your odds of finding a team (or at least 2v3) go way up. I know I often see guild people playing when I go on, and it says "1 minute"... just missed me! I also go on and see nobody, but within a couple minutes someone comes on.
Heads up! 1.17 patch releases some time very soon, and will be active for 28 days before 1.18. You must win a game EVERY day to earn a free limited-time Rona skin without spending any Glory or ICE. (If you miss a day, you must spend ICE to make up for it.) I never played Rona. But free is free... And Battle Royale is going public!
You don't have to play every day. You need 20 legendaries and you have 28 days so you have an 8 day leeway. And the update is TOMORROW!
Cool—I could swear people in the SEMC forums were saying 28 legendaries were needed, but maybe that was a misunderstanding. 8 days leeway would indeed be generous, compared to how impossible Taka was! The Rona special cards can't be melted down (or at least not for full legendary value?) but that makes sense: earning a full legendary's worth of essence every day for a month would be kind of extreme!
Congrats! And no, not a chance, never will I have around 750 wins, so around 1600 hours of play, I'd guess, and my skill tier has settled in at low 5. So, that's my natural skill level, and I'll always keep improving but only slowly. I'll continue to best enjoy playing with people around my level, and hope to find enough of them
Wow, congrats on VG! I'm still working my way there. I just got POA silver yesterday so I'm pretty close!
Update is out, for me at least (East Coast US). Maintenance is probably going to take a while though.
Great! I like this game a lot, but I need the Battle Royale mode to get me to play some more. With nearly every casual match being pointless because of deserters and ranked play being too stressful/serious for me, having a fun mode that's less of an investment is exciting.
Anyone use Phinn very often? Thinking about getting him while he's on sale. Just tried him in casual as he's free to play this week. Seems pretty good but would take some getting used to for sure.
I've been playing phinn quite a bit. He's fun but tricky. A) he's dog slow and B) he can be squishier than you might think. I've played against phinns who were nearly unkillable, but I've also been killed rapidly while playing as phinn, despite a heavy green build. Try him in Practice. He's now my second support after my main, Ardan. But I don't know if I'd spend ICE--Glory is free! I'm saving my ICE for limited skins. And Phinn is murder in solo Q. You know how solo queuers hate support? Won't wait .25 seconds to let them use Ironguard, even though they'll then go wait 5 seconds standing next to an upcoming monster spawn... They'll gladly waste both gold and XP, then rage ping you for not being equipped to save them later. Well... Solo queuers hate Phinn most of all. They won't let you support. Krul is the worst. Forget playing phinn with a krul teammate. Also, nobody understands that phinn has a health shield to give his teammates--just like Ardan (minus the speed boost) only he can give it to the entire nearby team at once, including himself. They just think he's stomping to steal farm or for no reason, and rage ping you for saving their lives. If you avoid solo, then yes, I recommend phinn! Upgrade your boots sooner than normal, and manage your farm cycle extra carefully. You can farm just about as fast as any other support, if you're strategic. The stomp has a long range to attract beast aggro, and I also like to start my cycle at the middle health beast to begin farming ASAP. The hook is pretty fun if you can land it right. I get a Clockwork late in order to use it more. It can even pull heroes through a wall. Plus, phinn can guard turrets really well.
Phinn is my main support so yes I use him often. As Adam said I don't reccomend him for solo q, only for a coordinated team as sometimes pulling the enemies back just makes things worse. He's fantastic in competitive play as well. I've used him a couple times during that.
Any word on the next heroes? Thought I read or heard that they had 2 more in the works and they were both roam/tank heroes.
I don't expect them until after Rona Month, but yes, the 1.16 patch notes included a bit of info about them, and they are 2 roamers. Both can be used as support or not, depending how you build. "Hey, this is Ciderhelm, and I’d like offer a glimpse of our two upcoming roam heroes, Lance and Lyra. Lance is a heavily armored defender with a unique sword-and-board fighting style. Lyra, on the other hand, brings powerful magic to support her allies from a distance. In addition to their primary roam roles, Lance will offer a separate warrior path while Lyra will offer a separate mage path." (From http://www.vainglorygame.com/news/spring-update-1-16-notes-halcyon-days/) Someone posted a pic, not sure where from. Lyra delivering buffs sounds good to me: Ardan-style support. Of course, the problem with Support isn't just a lack of hero choice and people not wanting to play as Support... it's also that solo queuers hate people who DO choose to support More choice is nice, but if my teammates won't let me support them, it's not much consolation. And it results in the instalock problem: the only way to play anything but support is to lock first, which I won't do. So... I have to play support most of the time while my other skills get rusty. Then my Elo rises (I do pretty well as Support) and when I do play my rusty jungle/lane, I'm nowhere near as good as my Elo. Hilarity ensues. I'm trying to play Support in ranked and non-Support (at least more often) in casual, to keep separate Elos. But if everyone instalocks, it doesn't work out.
