I'm hoping he's a jungler who uses Weapon damage for Abilities in some way. (An anti-Celeste in other words; a hero you'll always make Weapon builds for.)


I'm also hoping Celeste drops from 8000 to 6000 soon (but Ardan still hasn't). In the past that has been the pattern: Joule, Taka and Skaarf all debuted at 8000 and then dropped eventually, if I'm not mistaken. Not sure if any have dropped further--I haven't been playing long enough to see it, if so.

I love that idea on one level, but the reality would be awful. I can hardly bear to think of playing a MOBA with a mouse, much less a controller! I use two "mice" (fingers) constantly.


A controller could certainly handle all the buttons in the UI, but aiming needs precision and speed. You need to be able to target an exact spot far away instantly, and then another exact spot somewhere totally different the instant after that.


A MOBA would have to be designed very differently (dual-stick, say) to make sense with a controller.

 

1.4 comes out tomorrow at 10am PDT! It includes the new skins system, a ton of fixes and updates, and something other secret, supposedly. Oh, and you can play it on a 5 and 5C now!

They are going to do a Twitch stream while the servers are down announcing everything.

This game is amazing.

 

Cool! I stopped playing a few weeks ago—it just wasn't fun, the amount of bad skill-matches I was getting—but I always planned to return, and Tuesday may be the day!

Ringo is my most-played hero, but I never liked his plain look. There's a Skin For That!

Yeah i stopped playing a while back too. It's jsut been LOL for my MOBA itch which i still play daily, except for the 4 week LOL-hiatus in between march and april.

Curious to see what things are going to be added.

 

What tier are you? I'm in Hotness Silver and the matches have been great, in general, since the last few updates.

 

I'm sure matching gets better as you get to the very top of the skill ranks—but that's a small minority of players, I think. (Judging by the increasing time to find a match as you go up the ranks.)

My rank varies wildly, but seems to hover around Decent-Ish bronze, and my skills have leveled out during the last few weeks of play, I would say. After a few hundred matches of rapid initial improvement, I'm sure my skills will continue to rise, just more slowly. Not everyone can be in the the top few %, due to different natural skill levels, different amounts of out-of-game research, different amounts of available time, and different levels of MOBA experience going in (VG is my first MOBA). So I think I'm at the right level at Decent-Ish, and when matched against similar players I have a ton of fun.

I've played about 500 games, or 250 hours of playtime. Average 2 hours per day for four months, plus many hours of off-game research in forums and wikis and YouTube. I'd guess that puts me way above the average player, and that the vast majority of players are in the bottom tiers vs. the higher tiers.

So if I could match with equally-skilled players most of the time, it would be fun—not a landslide in either direction. But I SO often get matched with players who are not (or should not be) Decent-Ish. I get laners who will never venture into the lane for a moment, ping-spamming trolls, AFKs, last-hit jungle stealers, and people who fly into a rage when I simply ask the laner whether they want a mine now or want to wait. On the flip side, I go up against smurfs and teams who are obviously coordinating with each other, while I'm randomly-matched without that benefit. All of which is great—if like players were matched with like.

I don't think VG is doing anything wrong (quite the opposite!) I just think the playerbase is way too small. They HAVE to mismatch players or there would be no game.

Eventually the game started to feel like grinding—playing 4 miserable frustrating matches to get to the 1 awesome one, or playing week after week hoping for the magical tier where things get better. I do believe that tier exists! But only a small % of players will ever see it, and if I'm not in that %, the game stopped being as fun. I will always return every now and then, though! I want VG to succeed, and I want the player base to grow! It's an awesome game, and I remain a fan.

It's fun and I'm a fan but... the mismatches kill me! I'm the skill tier bronze after decent-ish.
I love the game, but not having the advantage of working with a team really annoys me when players on your team don't play their roles.
Simple warning pings and go here pings help tremendously!
You have no idea how many times I walked into a 3 on 1 manslaughter because my team mate didn't give me a heads up.
On the other hand... Players that use the pings for trolling and raging... I never know which Ping is anger or instruction... Usually leads to disfunct team play.

 

Now that my 5C is supported, I'm gonna see if I like it

I think you'll like it! Just dive in, take note of which characters say they are for Jungle or for Lane, and you'll learn fast. (But search the official VG forums for answers, and you'll learn important details that might take a while to figure out on your own.)

Odd... I didn't get a update button for this latest update. It only says get... I click it, and it downloads it again to my phone, instead of updating existing installed one

 

That's because the iPhone version is NOT being updated, if I understand correctly. It's probably gone from the App Store.


Instead, the old iPad version has been updated and become Universal—that's the app you see in the store now, with "Get." Download that, delete the old app, and sign in with your VG account.
