We just had the same request for a 6 month old Flick Fishing refund. It may be a new scam looking for naive devs, or just a very very cheeky user. PM'd eVp to compare notes to see if it's the same guy.

We got the same email today too!!!

So is it just someone who happened to have Wooden Labyrinth, Flick Fishing, and Harbor Master and honestly thinks they deserve a refund, or is it an attempt to scam us?

And if it's a scam, is it the most ridiculous scam ever?

I almost feel like I need to refund the guy at least double the value of Harbor Master, since we got at least $2 worth of entertainment out of his email :)

You should reply and ask him if he bought App Insurance to protect himself from these kinds of losses.

    Hi,

I just hope you respond to the person in a professional way.

Some of the comments in the thread have been humorous but you are running a business and have to conduct yourself accordingly.

I do feel a scam and I would hope you, and Apple would noy give this person a refund, after seven months.

I wrote to him that Apple handles all financial transactions with customers and he should contact Apple.

    Dear sir or madam,

God bless your heart you poor, poor thing. In addition to giving you a 200% refund for Wooden Labyrinth, I am also going to send you $300 for a brand new iPod touch. Just send me your name, age, address, Mother's maiden name, social security number, bank account and routing number and the funds will be transferred immediately.

As a moral obligation, I am going to hire a private investigator and a band of rebel bounty hunters to track down, torture and kill the person that stole your iPod. May they forever burn in hell.

    Love,

    eVp

    Legal reply is simple :

Developers are not responsible for hardware degradation.

I think you still need to keep professional in your reply, something like the following would be appropriate:

    Dear Sir,

Thank you for your email and request for a refund on 'Wooden Labyrinth." We handle all refund circumstances the same and will usually deduct game time as an interest rate from the refund amount, at -25% per/mon.

After referring you to our accountancy department, and as you have been playing the game for 7 months now, we have determined this as a deduction of 175% from the original price, calculating that you are in arrears to us to the sum of: $2.25 - which we will be billing you for shortly.

Thank you again for contacting us, we look forward to making more deals in the future.

    Regards

He can use the iTunes account to install the game on other devices, or even request a refund by Apple.
I wouldn't write a bad answer, a single customer complain can get your apps being removed by Apple.

yeah I can imagine the call:

"so I lost my iphone and it's the developer of X game's fault that I can't play it anymore, I demand that you remove his app from the store."

if the email is not a scam, then it would make sense that three devs got an email for refund isn't it?
i mean, the person wouldve had loads of apps wouldn't they?

I suppose this is the new Nigerian scam scheme towards developers? We got the same e-mail yesterday!

They sent it through our website contact form. This was it:

I didn't see this posting until today, so we thought it was legit. We did reply to it, cordially. We told them that their transaction was with Apple and we cannot refund them directly. If they want the refund they should tell Apple exactly what they told us, and maybe they would get their refund.

Just like nattlux said, we got high entertainment value from this one! We also got a chuckle imagining the reaction to anyone at Apple that got an e-mail with this request.

But given this really looks like a scam, I doubt they'll ever send it.

I suggest that all developers that have received this forward the e-mails to Apple so they can at least be aware of this. Or, we could all compare the source of the e-mails to see if it's the same person?

If it's not a scam, we would at least find out the "policy" Apple has towards refunds of this nature?
