I got for free but because I was at apple store cuz ipod not working n when he fixed it it automatically updated it for free. Woohoo!
I have not yet upgraded. Though there are some app updates I have not yet been able to download. I have been waiting awhile so most of my apps will be known to be 3.0 compatible. It's probably about time I upgraded.
3.0 is very much worth it. 2.2.1 let's u have 9 pages but 3.0 let's u have 11 plus with the search feature you can have more. It just won't show up on the pages though. Also it has shake to shuffle for music is kinda cool. I think it was worth ne 10 dollars cuz I have like 160 apps.
Even for the ipod touch, the $10 for 3.0 is important. The newer games are all going to be 3.0 compatible. Even though some of them try to revert back to 2.2+ for the people who won't update, pretty soon, most, if not all the games will be 3.0 So upgrade now while you can enjoy it longer!
Did I just get 3.0 for free? Does Apple have separate, like... sections for paying for updates and paying for stuff in the iTunes store? Because a few hours ago I was forced to restore my iPod and it said it would update the latest firmware and went to a pop up window thing that described all the features in 3.0 but said nothing about paying for it. So I pressed next, agreed to the conditions, and now my ipod is running 3.0. And right now I'm using a gift card in itunes and doing this hasn't taken any money out of that. So did I get it for free or is it going to show up as a separate charge when I get my bill? Sorry if this is a stupid question and the answer is obvious, but right now I'm confused. Happy, but confused
I updated and wish I wouldn't have, that $10 bought me absolutely nothing but the ability to update Defender Chronicles. No new features of any importance and that's $20 now I've spent on OS updates for a 1st gen touch. Then again I'm planning on buying the new version of the touch when it comes out this fall (though I may see what other alternatives there are, I'm growing increasingly disenchanted with Apple.) If you're sticking with what you have for a long time to come and plan to keep buying new games you may as well update.
uh just google if you haven't found it already. Seriously if your looking for anything, google got your back o0"
I caved in and shelled out the 10 bucks for the update in order to improve the performance of games with multi-touch control schemes. Occurro is one example of a game that benefited immediately from the update. The bombs didn't work under 2.2.1 but work nearly perfectly under 3.0. I'm also playing some Tap Tap songs and noticing fewer dropped taps when tapping next to the tap-and-holds. The one major problem with OS 3.0 is that it uses up more memory and also manages it poorly. I run an app that frees up memory right before playing any memory intensive game. Without that utility or something similar, games would be chugging.
I have not upgrade to 3.0 because I am a developer and I need to test my game on 2.2.1 device. We have another iPhone running 3.0(not 3GS) and it eats memory! I think developer need to test on as many devices as possible and I heard that after you have upgrade to 3.0, there is no way going back.
That's why I'm not paying for the update. Sure it's only $10, but that's still a waste of money when the iTouch 3 will be out soon. And while there are a few developers who decided to force OS3 in their updates (e.g Defender Chronicles or CS.One), I'm hardly short of other games to play while I'm waiting. If Apple screw up the specs of the new Touch or tripple the price with no good reason, then I'll probably go back and get the upgrade instead but I'm not doing both.
i know the forum is anti-piracy so i will say nothing of where os 3.0 is available for free. however, bear in mind that many users feel like we're getting rooked with each major update, $10 is not cheap. not to mention our brothers w/iphones get it for free.
Well, your "brothers" with iPhones also pay $80/month for cellphone service. How is it that you feel you are getting "rooked?" When you buy a computer, it comes with a certain configuration. If you want to upgrade it, you don't expect Apple or Microsoft to upgrade it for free, do you? If you don't want to pay $10, you don't have to. You can continue using the device you originally bought; you just can't use new features that require the update. And $10 is a very small amount of money. Anyone who says it's not is being just plain silly!
Yeah, if you restore, you may get it for free, even without a gift card. I think I got it for free when I did.
your paying $80 a month for cell phone service has nothing to do with it. any unlocked iphone also gets this update for free. you pay for cell service, nothing more. yet the owners of ipods who shelled out hundreds to apple get a big "f*ck you pay up" in return.
