Tyrian is an arcade-style vertical scrolling shooter for DOS, originally developed by Eclipse productions and published in 1995. The story is set in 20,031 where you play as Trent Hawkins, a skilled fighter-pilot employed to fight Microsol and save the galaxy.

    The iPhone version features:
    - Full Story & Arcade modes
    - 4 Episodes: "Escape", "Treachery", "Mission: Suicide" & "An End to Fate"
    - 50+ levels
    - 7 difficulty levels
    - Sofisticated weapon upgrade system with hundreds of weapon combinations to chose from
    - support for cheat codes, secret game modes, easter eggs, etc.
    - 30+ music soundtracks by Alexander Brandon with a Jukebox.

Grrr, again the same controls used by most other shmups on the iPhone.

Why not use the best controls ever made, rRootage on the iPhone? ie. Relative movement

I absolutely love this game on the pc, must have played it through more than half a dozen times. Levels, weapons and especially the music are great, even though i already know that i'll end up with the laser as front-gun for the last half of the game ;) (you can equip your ship with different front, rear and two side-guns, as well as a generator and shield, and of course you can change your ship too).
The best shoot-em-up game for the pc imho and an instant buy for me.

    Btw, does "destruct" work? ;)

thats what i'm wondering too....why do they deliberately mess up the controls like this??

i don't buy shooters anymore which force you to cover up half of the screen behind your ship with your fingers.

so, even if i love this game....i won't buy it for the iphone. it would piss me off too much and spoil the game for me anyway.

seriously, how hard is it to implement a control style which allows you to put your finger anywhere on the screen to steer without your ship immediately jumping to this location.

game is a pass for me.

Keyboard assignment in DESTRUCT needs to be fixed. We'll probably correct it in the next release.
Most of other secret modes work though... you can do X-mass theme too :)

Why would you ever want to steer with a finger in front of your ship in a top-down shooter? ;-)

I currently have spacex, skyforce reloaded, Siberian strike, and hotfield. This beats them all by far. fantastic music, action, and nostalgia =P

Mobila interactive did an amazing job on coding it (around 35 fps), I'm glad the dpad is gone from the menus =D

    I can't wait!

An instant buy falls in a certain price range for me other wise I look at reviews, videos, etc.

I'm looking forward to this game but not to sure how the landscape mode only will be for game play.

Any plans for a lite version?

    Thanks,

    Rad

It will depend on the initial reception and the interest to the game.
So far our bet is on the ~30 year-old gamers who remember playing the original DOS title and appreciate the old-skool shmups.

If needed, a crippled version can be done in a matter of hours ;-)

I wouldn't, but with relative movement i'll be able to put my finger anywhere and move the ship precisely how I want to.
