Discuss current television shows y'all (Posting lists is boring) So the lastest slew of new programming is panning out well. In particular, I'm loving "The Cape", a back to basics superhero action/drama in a similar vein to Batman. Sure there's things to nit-pick about it, but overall it's a great show, with some awesome B-List stars involved (Vinnie Jones as the villan Scales in particular). Such a shame that the first season has been cut down from 13 to 10 episodes by the network, due to low ratings. Fingers crossed it gets renewed for another season at least. "Mr. Sunshine", Matthew Perry's new show is surprisingly good too, although it's still too soon for me to tell if it'll have real staying power. Still, seems like a good laugh so far, and I'm up for anything with Jorge Garcia in it, no matter how infrequently he appears. Unfortunately, Friend's co-star Matt Le Blanc hasn't faired so well in his new show IMO. "Episodes" is a great premise, with a good cast, but just seems way too predictable and kind of unfunny. What are the rest of TA watching at the moment? Any good newcomers that I'm missing?
Maybe this thread should be mereged with this one: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=79427&highlight=show But anyways, I watch simpsons, wipeout, family guy, attack of the show, x play, ninja warrior
I was thinking about necroposting an old thread, but kind of just wanted to discuss shows that are on now, not pick thru lists of people's favourite shows of all time. Anyway, I watched the a couple of episodes from the last season of The Simpsons, seemed kind of hit and miss. Still kind of the same? Any really stand-out episodes air recently?
Dude you have some bad taste in TV. The Cape and Mr. Sunshine are both dreadful. Thank god they will be cancelled so we can get some (hopefully) good shows on TV. I'm all for opinions, but I just can't stand idly by while someone says that Mr. Sunshine was "surprisingly good" and compares the Cape to Batman, who is a great character as opposed to a guy with a magical circus cape. Personally I like Psych, White Collar, Dexter, Breaking Bad, Archer, Parks and Rec, and The Walking Dead.
Simpsons havent been good for about 8-10 years, and family guy is also terrible now. Such a shame for what used to be a good show. FG just became awful around season 4-5. The first three were great, and then when Fox brought it back it just resorted to Stewie being gay and Peter just acting generally retarded instead of funny things happening. I hate how Stewie went from an awesome homicidal genius to a gay baby. What the **** is up with that. I'm just overall disappointed with modern TV. Thank god for Netflix instant watch, I can catch up on some old but great shows.
I'm only comparing The Cape to Batman in terms of a) Neither hero actually has any superpowers, b) Both have a city that plays a major role in the plot. And come on, what's so terrible about The Cape? If you watch it for what it is, a run of the mill superhero show that doesn't try to do anything spectacular, it's pretty enjoyable. And Mr.Sunshine is still too young for me to defend. I think it's got potential, but I guess we'll see in a few weeks time. The pilot was a really good watch regardless of what becomes of it. Dexter, Archer, The Walking Dead, all awesome, which reminds me I need to catch up on Dexter. But Psych? Really? I digress, I've only ever caught a few episodes of it (and all from the first season I think), but with good reason, it's poor. So, so bad. Not watched the rest, not really my bag, except maybe Parks and Rec, not sure why I haven't heard of it sooner. Comparable to The Office at all?
Meh, from what I've seen, some of the latest Simpsons episodes aren't terrible, but there are definitely some seriously poor episodes being produced. I remember one about some new girl that Bart has a crush on that's just incredibly terrible. But then episodes like "The Debarted" (a couple of seasons back I think) really make up for stuff like that. Completely agree that Family Guy is garbage though. Stewie is gay now? Wait, back up, they have plots now?
I have yet to watch Mr Sunshine. Guess I shall start soon But I currently watch: Curb Your Enthusiasm It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia The Office How I Met Your Mother Chuck The Big Bang Theory 30 Rock Weeds Entourage
I watch Ghost Adventures lol. It's actually really interesting, especially if there's nothing else on. Definitey best/funniest ghost hunting show on TV.
I've seen a few episodes of The Cape and have been really underwhelmed. Thankfully I stopped thanks to the one-dimensional characters and world, along with the poor plot direction. Even the pilot doesn't attempt to build anything interesting, rushing past te first 20 minutes, which could have been a good two hours worth of story if the writing was better. I'll come back if they improve the production team, which I don't see happening, but hey, let me know if it gets better. I'll probably check out the season finale just to see if they can culminate into anything. A superhero show currently airing that is genuinely good is No Ordinary Family. The direction, quality of the world and plot progression really surprised me. The only way to get into this season would be to start from the beginning, though. Fringe was always good, but it feels like it has gotten significantly better and that there's more of a main plot. The shows I'm most excited about during the winter/spring are Californication, No Ordinary Family, Fringe, Shameless, The Big Bang Theory, The Office, and House. I watch more, but those stand out during these months. Showtime has a great Sunday night lineup from September until the end of March, I love coming home to my "SHO Sunday." Even their new comedy Episodes has mostly been funny, going along well with the superior Californication and Shameless.
I admit, some of the principal cast are really one-dimensional at the moment (Faraday and his family most notably), but there are some stand-out exceptions, such as Orwell and Peter Fleming. I think the pilot worked well, getting into the meat of the show quickly. Sure, they could have stretched it out, but that're not trying to create an amazingly deep and profound experience here, just a very standard simple superhero romp. The plot is progressing well anyway, with a couple more members of The Tarot turning up, some back story on The Cape being provided, and Felming's struggle with Chess in a kind of Norman Osbourne way. I'm not saying it's an amazing, must watch show, but taking it for what it is, it's enjoyable.
I started watching No ordinary family about two weeks ago and it has turned out surprisingly good. I was expecting an okish show but the stories have gotten quite good in it. Plus the Watcher is awesome. Also Im loving this season of HIMYM. The episodes have been very funny and it looks like the season end could be big. Plus zooey has the most awesome sad face.
Episodes has completely bombed in a massive exposion of irony. A sitcom parodying British sitcoms badly remade by Americans, which is in fact very badly written by Americans itself. It doesn't help that the entire cast other than Stephen Mangan is genuinely annoying, and not in a humourous way. Jeeeesus.
Hard to believe a big fan wouldn't know that Beck spells his first name with TWO 'n's. I suspect they're just trolling for a fight.
For me, nothing has beaten the old programmes I used to (and still) watch. Only fools and Horses, Friends, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. They never get old.
