Hi, sorry but my first post is a noob question...

Is there an app that will allow output of games on TV without jailbreaking? Being new to the world of iPod/iPhone I'm a little wary of breaking my phone but I'd really love to play games on my telly.

I have an iPhone 3GS with OS 3.1.2 and an official component cable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance, P :)

Wouldn't the visual quality be unbearable?

Yeah and I think the framerate drops to an unbearable 3fps or so.
I don't know if the JB community has found a solution yet.

So, there is no official way at the moment to output to tv? Why does the frame-rate suffer so much when the JB method is used? Surely it's just a matter of taking the video signal and chucking it at the big screen?

I really think Apple's missed a trick here. The iPhone is never out of my hands unless I want to play something on a bigger screen. If the phone had this capability it would definitely become my number one platform for gaming.

As far as the resolution / output goes isn't it pretty similar to the Wii? I don't find the Wii's output unbearable in the slightest. :)

PS: Thanks for all the replies and not mocking my first post!

aye, i've been after this function for ages. it doesn't officially exist yet. saying that, i think there's an o.h.p. that's specifically optimised for iphone use.

Ughhhh! Imagining the pixelation. Why would you want to take something designed for a 3 inch screen and stretch it to what 40-50+ inches.

Isn't the wii designed to be used on larger formats?

Hehe, the first thing I hooked up to my brand new 38" Sony Wega (this was some time ago) was my Atari 2600, just to see the pixels.

Everything I've heard about the iPod/iPhone TV out cables has been negative, which is too bad. A nice setup would make downloading HD movies/TV shows worthwhile on iTunes. I'd probably use it mostly for music, I like to plug in to an amp (or mixer panel) and jam with friends, and it would be cool to show off visuals.)

I often use low res and standard def equipment on my tv. It's only a 26" screen as I don't feel I really need any more than that in my living room. I currently have a Commodore Vic 20 and C64 hooked up to it as well as my Wii on which I play loads of Virtual Console games so I don't reckon that the iPhone would look that bad to me. :)

I really, really hope that this functionality will be added to the next OS. I have spent £35 on official component cables and, so far, all I can do is watch videos that I can already view from my laptop which is also hooked up to the telly. For some reason I can't even view my photos!! Shame on you Apple...
