      How is 12 megapixels possible when the camera is only capable of 5?

      There's something fishy here. The night shot of the building with before and after? The "before" is faked by reducing brightness, the 16x zoom before/after is meaningless at a low resoluition (digital zoom always looks like blurry crap no matter what you do), and I don't know what's going on with the girl in the headdress image, but it looks like a semi-transparent dark overlay was placed over the "before" image.
