I found a minor bug that might want to be addressed. After I pop the board to Ollie, if the nose of the board gets close to vertical, it counts it as a pop-shuvit. Awesome game though, regardless of the bug.
What a great game. Have been playing this for many hours. But does anyone know how to perform manuals?
Will it go for 1/2 price soon? No prob with the 1.99, but I hate it when the price drops after purchase.
I'm curious to know what sort of content you think is lacking? Missions/objectives or something else?
Another minor complaint - if during tricks I drag my finger onto one of the buttons at the top of the screen, they should not activate. They should activate only when directly tapped.
More locations, objectives, a selection of boards et cetera. Something along the lines of Tony Hawk Pro Skater? I know it's only $1.99 but I don't mind paying extra for a wholesome experience.
Now that i've played this game a lot, this is definitely an easy nomination for my GotW. So far, this and Zombies are my two top games for GotW, but True Skate is a bit on top. This game has great physics, and once you've learned the controls, they come a bit natural to some extent... I mean in real skateboarding, there isnt "natural controls" over it as you are still bound to make a few miscalculations or mistakes. So yeah... I love this game.
That is just the rewind button because it works differently then the others, but you are right, that has started to annoy me too even though I never noticed it before. Well, we took over a year or something to a sale with JCS. I'm sure there will be a sale earlier for True Skate, but not for a significant while for the exact reason that I don't want to annoy all the early adopters who are so important to the games success. You have to drag down on the back of the board just the right amount, however, to be honest, the manual physics could do with some improvements, and you don't get score from them. Good find. I am starting to notice a few problems with trick detection when the board flips through vertical. It makes sense to me that it is a problem. I guess that should be a priority fix for the next update.
Love this game. I skated for like the better part of 10 yrs. this is probably the best skateboarding game on the App Store. WAY better than Touchgrind. Like TA's review said, I'd like to see some different parks and board customization. Something that you can strive for. Like somehow earning XP to be able to pull off better tricks or buy better boards/trucks/wheels/ect.
Oh, man... I was waiting for this one for so long. Very, very worth the wait! : ) Another gem from True Axis. I do have some suggestions, however: First of all, I think as far as updates go you should treat this more as a realistic skating sim and less as a game. Meaning, instead of adding a bunch of missions and goals you guys should focus more on things that have to do with real skating: a replay editor for skate videos, new decks, etc. The fact is, it's just plain fun skating around doing tricks aimlessly. You should capitalize on that! I thought for sure that my number one wish in True Skate would be a park editor, but I was very wrong (though that would still be amazing). Instead, I think the replay editor should be priority #1! As for people asking for some kind of practice mode where you can see arrows or video of how to swipe to do tricks, I 100% agree! Also, I've had some problems with trick detection as well. Sometimes when I do a trick into a grind it will register the first trick but not the grind. And the 2nd to last mission where it asks to do a heel flip over corner, I've done it probably 20 times matching everything perfectly and it keeps failing for some reason. It even says "Following 100%" at the end and registers a heel flip at the right time over the right thing, but still says "Bad Luck!" : ( Overall, though, this is probably the most fun I've had in iOS since, well, Jet Car Stunts. : ) Seriously great job Luke and everyone else! Oh, and those of you wanting a flat open area for practicing, try the pool!
Actually, this is the main reason to add more missions, to teach the different tricks. I actually feel the missions are a bit like real skating. It is similar to when you see somebody doing something, and you try to copy it, or you have a challenge with your friend to do a particular trick, or take a particular line. And later we can put some high score uploading on some of the score missions to make it like a comp. Yeah, we need to refine the mission system before doing more missions. The problem actually is that you have to land in the same spot. If you over jump it, the trick will fail, even if you do the same trick. It is obviously completely un-intuitiveness and unfair and needs to be fixed.
Just want to chime in and say that this game is truly fantastic and a real testament to what a touch control game should be like. I grew up as a skater and naturally played the Tony Hawk, Skate games, but those were more about how many buttons or combo's you could do with the press of the button. EA's skate took it one step further by introducing analogue controls for tricks. Illusion Labs released Touch Grind which was great conceptually and offered more of a true skateboard control feel to it. While the concept was great, for me, the execution failed because you couldn't see what was around you unless you were close to it. Timing and precision are hallmarks of skilled skaters and I just wished there was a different view so I could actually see and what I wanted to see. With True Skate, I think you've nailed it. I can see where I'm going as well as perform a number of tricks/combo's where it's based on more finger skills instead of button presses. Just like real skating, practice here makes for better tricks and runs and it's fun to be able to pull off a move after much failure. I hope in the future there will be more parks and additional boards it's really great and I almost find it zen like to just ride around and skate just like in the old days when I could skate and not risk breaking my hip or something. Great job! TLR - Awesome game, love it!
Really nice game, lots of quality here but thats what we've come to expect of TrueAxis I think. Im not even a fan of skating but im enjoying this very much, im finding it somewhat relaxing. Top iOS devs here for sure, kudos for a superbly executed effort. Wouldnt mind another skate park to roll through, if its as good as the one we have now it could even be an iap as im sure a lot of us would buy it.
Wow, thanks for all the positive feedback. Hopefully enough people buy it so that we can afford to do some big updates. Doing the updates for this game will be so much fun. Somebody pointed out True Skate is doing well in Sweden where it is the #3 App, and the #2 game. That's pretty amazing considering I can't see where there might have been a feature yet. If you are talking about the stairs I think you are talking about, then no, there is an invisible wall.
Yep, there is a good chance that if we can do any extra levels, they may well end up as an in app purchase, or some virtual currency thing.
Aargh! You should make it a visible wall so that people don't spend ages trying to get up there. Like I did.
