True Skate is Awesome. Feedback/Suggestions. I absolutely love True Skate, thanks for making such an awesome game True Axis! I have been skating for 25 years, and I really appreciate the authentic physics and feeling of the game. I really enjoy the challenge and reward from finally pulling off a trick I have imagined – I could go on and on, but this game is the best. I have purchased everything in the store to support True Axis putting more into the game, and I eagerly await new parks and features. I have read this whole thread, and it is really cool to see how Luke is so responsive and open about the game and the development process I love the Schoolyard park, even though it is very different. I can understand why some people are critical, but I think it offers a lot of creative lines and feels like very gritty/realistic street skating. I am very much looking forward to the new parks, and I encourage your approach of diversity in terrain. Now for my suggestions/feedback: 1. I much prefer the game with realistic-height flatground ollies. I think it is great to boost off ramps/banks, but there should be a consistent upper-limit to flatground ollies, it should feel like you have to ollie just right to clear a picnic table or grind the high rails. Being able to go full speed and then suddenly ollie up the large steps of stairs (in the first park), makes the game feel fake or cartoonish, which is exactly the opposite of what I love about the game. 2. I almost prefer the new transition camera view, but it affects gameplay in a negative way – it is much more difficult to keep and gain speed from pumping, and it seems glitchy when ollieing/turning/attempting lip tricks at high speed. I think the old views could use some improvement, but I think the new update is way too much, and it also makes me feel motion-sick as other posters have commented. 3. The new revert issue is a bummer when trying to carve the bowls/pools to gain speed, that was one of my favorite things to do in the game prior to the update. I think I would just remove reverts, they aren’t a very exciting maneuver to begin with. 4. I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE a button at the top that allowed you to record/replay a small clip (maybe 5-10 seconds?) and store them in a limited library. I hear the new replay function is great, but I am not interested in connecting to Facebook, so do not benefit from it. 5. It would be cool if you could tap the items on the gap list and see a brief video of the gap being performed (like the mission instruction view). This could work with the trick list too – obviously a minor point, but I think it would be fun. 6. I really appreciate the ability to change camera views, I find the different views create a very different experience, and certain tricks seem easier in different views. 7. I think you should tone down the dismount flips off rails too – I read where you are concerned this would upset people, but I would encourage you to try and make the best, most-realistic game possible, this will attract and keep the largest number of true fans/gamers in the long run. 8. Minor point - It seems like the new update has a lower top-speed, which again feels fake and limiting, I would enjoy the game more with just a fraction more potential for top-speed. I wish this game would blow up and you would have the funds to create more parks, potentially large city-scapes with the feeling of free-roaming, endless lines. I think it would be super awesome to have the possibility of user-created levels, that could possibly be shared, so we could make up impossible/ridiculous terrain to destroy as well. Keep up the great work, thanks for the awesome gaming experience! Skate and destroy!
I agree with some if this, Lower Ollie's would be nice, The revert is annoying and happens all the time when I'm trying to just turn, so either an option to turn it off or lower it's sensitivity. On the up side though,me more I've played the new school level the more I'm liking it, now I can see it's more real as you can just pick you spot and try to nail a trick not skate around like your in a skate park.
This seems to be fixed in the development build, and the latest android version, however, I don't remember ever fixing it, so I am scared it is still there hiding, but rarer now. Maybe we broke game center. Can't say I am in the greatest hurry to look into that though, we have a bunch of other more urgent things that need doing. I've mentioned a few times that we never intended this, and I am not sure how it happened. Maybe we just never properly tried swiping with full intensity at initial release or made some accidental change at the last Minuit. Anyway, we can't change it now with out getting a lot of complaints. We even tried changing the swipe sensitivity on android so that it was still possible to do the big ollies, just that you needed a faster swipe, but we got billions of complaints and added the sensitivity slider instead. We may add a realistic mode at some point instead. We've already made some changes to this as well as adding an option in the menu to change the camera tilt action. We have kept some necessary changes to stop the deck going through the ground. We've also impoved the way early ollies work on vert giving a lot of new ways to initial grinds or even just jump up to the top. (These changes are already on android where we can update quickly and get feedback) Also, there is a bug in pumping where if you grab the board in the air pumps don't work. You have to grab it when it is on the ground. Again, it will be fixed in the next update. Honestly, we where quite suprised to hear that a lot of people like to get speed up on the bowls because we had very little positive feedback about that, and mostly a lot of complaints that the bowls are useless. We will add some real replay features at some point. We have all the code in place needed to make that work now. We have a few potential plans of what to do with that gap list, that we will do when the time is right. It is something I keep thinking about. Possibly changing that wouldn't cause too many complaints. I think part of the problem was that we once added a boost to give you more height when dismounting to allow more rail to rail jumps but we didn't notice the side affect of allowing ridiculous flip tricks. It might be something better left for a realism mode again, but I am already considering reducing that a little. In theory, it should not have changed. I think the top speed is already a bit on the high side if anything, at least from pushing with your feet. I've always wanted to make sure that if you really want to do a really big gap, you should have to work out how to get up the speed for it, by finding a slope to go down or what ever. We already plan to keep updating for a long time. We haven't done a lot while we finished Jet Car Stunts 2, but, we have a lot of plans for this year, and maybe some surprises, but you will have to wait and see. Even I am not sure what is going to happen yet.
Thanks for the updates luke! You guys rock, can't wait to see what's coming next. One thing you've added that I didn't think I would like is leaderboards. I really like how best trick works, because it seems like one long solid slide is the best way to rack up points. Not some ridiculous combination of things
Actually we are thinking of making long grinds count less for lines, and making a variety of tricks count more. It is slightly boring when everybody has to do a long nose blunt down the same ledge in a level, then do a bunch of random little tricks after to build the multiplier. We might change it so that it you get a big score for locking onto a nose blunt, but if you do a really long grind, it wont matter so as much much what the grind is. Anyway, we might leave things as they are for a while to see how well people figure out the system. We do need to make a new set of leaderboards though, because a heap of offline scores from old versions have made there way onto the current set of leaderboards.
Well for the time being I like the challenge of doing perfect versions of difficult tricks and not just spamming flip in flip out grind to grind combos that would be very unrealistic. That's for best trick at least I think you're totally right about lines. Scores shouldn't have to be front loaded like that. I think your tricks shouldn't lose point values as your line continues unless it's the same trick multiple times. It would be better too, if you had to score a certain amount of points to increase your multiplier, like 2,000 or 3,000. It would encourage more difficult tricks throughout the run. Also, is there a way to get my ipad and iPhone on the same leaderboard account? They have the same username, but I have two top 10 scores for best trick on Schoolyard :/
Game Center connection is broken indeed. Welcome border does not show up when i launched the game. I can not connect to the leaderboards, I even tried to choose playing from inside the game center and yet it does not recognize true skate as just played.
New Update Stoked on the new update, the controls and transition skating/view are much improved. Keep up the great work Luke and the True Axis Team!
Transition skating just got a whole lot better. I've seen some improvement with ledges, still almost impossible to do a decent 5-0 or nose grind without it popping out though. The ledge bug that speeds up your board still seems to persist although not as badly or as often now
The Warehouse is now live in True Skate 1.2.4. It should be appearing on local app stores any time now! That bug is a mystery, I wish I had tried to fix it when it was still happening quite easily.
Hey guys I'm new here so I'm not sure if people usually post videos here but I just wanted to share my True Skate video I just uploaded. It's kind of crappy in quality but I feel It has one or two nice clips in there. Let me know if posting videos is not allowed here or something. Anyway here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBoDAc6IPqI
The new warehouse level is now my favourite map, exactly the kind of thing I like, nice ramps and rails to set up grinds and things on, The only thing I'd like if possible is an option to turn off the revert style move that came in a update or two ago, because since that came in I'm finding it really difficult to skate around, when I swipe my finger to steer the board ends up just spining around on the ground, It was a lot more fun before this was introduced. Other than that like I said I'm loving the new level,
Skate Warehouse Loving the new skate warehouse level, great work True Axis! I am very much looking forward to a 'realism' mode, where the highest ollies possible are similar to the highest possible ollies in real life. It bums me out that I can just ollie over the spine ramps if I want, and I have gotten used to starting my ollies much sooner than would be realistic in real life. I understand some people like it the way it is, and I know some lines are only possible with super ollies, but I believe I would enjoy the game a lot more if it felt more real, or TRUE to the way skating feels This game is awesome, looking forward to the other new levels, thanks for all the great work.
Also can't wait for a realism mode, it's a bit crazy the height you can Ollie right now, you can clean jump over boxes that look 6-8 foot high?? I actually forgot there are missions in this game? I spend so much time just skating around doing random stuff, think I'll check out some of the new warehouse missions.
