Thanks! Hopefully they will join the forum soon to build a bigger community and of course tell a friend about my apps
Downloaded the app last night and was very eager to play - but was really disappointed! The good: -Really like the soundtrack, a very island-like feel. -Graphics are cool, bright and crisp -Like the idea of the game (but not executed very well) The bad: -Beyond telling the user to get the pineapple to the ground safely, there are no other rules or instructions! I knew from watching your video that when you touch objects they disappear but if someone hasn't seen this they won't know what to do at first. -Even after you figure out how to remove objects, how do you know how to get the pineapple down safely? I managed to beat the first two levels but I have no idea how. On the 3rd level I kept trying and I guess I kept failing because it told me I failed - I don't know why though, I got the pineapple to the ground. Are you supposed to do it so that the pineapple doesn't crash on the ground but rather lands softly? Is it supposed to slide down a 'stick'? Maybe it should crack/burst if it lands too hard. My wife and I played for a few minutes and somehow got passed level 3, but again no idea how. Definitely in need of some tutorial, instructions or something... -When we went back to the levels, its not really clear that the pineapples indicate what levels you had passed already. The incomplete ones don't look "grayed out" or distinctly different than the completed ones. And nothing indicates that this screen chooses which level you're on - at least add some text saying "level select" or something. I want to give you a good review in iTunes so I will wait until some of these issues are addressed because if I review it now, it won't be very positive. Maybe I am pickier than some others but I am trying to represent customers that might not be iPad-game-junkies and won't instinctively know what to do (I myself am new to iPad/iPhone gaming so these games are new to me. Some are very intuitive, some aren't). Hope this feedback helps and can't wait to see whats next in store...
thanks for the input. The goal is to avoid the cracks as you get the pineapple to the ground regardless of force. I will and more instructions. I had so many people tell me they ignore the instructions and just play that I guess I left out too much. The pineapple levels are wood until they are passed then they go full color with green leaves. I will again leave more instruction on that as well. Thanks again. Update coming soon!
I think I agree with dementid apps, most of the people i know just play and figure it out as we go. But for the others maybe elaborate a little more. Perhaps on the pineapple levels put next to each row level 1-8 and 9-16 otherwise all apps are pretty self explanitory like the iPods and so on. I mean apple doesn't give you any directions on how to use their devices unless you specifically go to their site and watch video tutorials. They expect people just to pick it up and figure it out on their own.
Well i had no problems with how to play, figured it out by looking at the screen for the first time, but I can see how others might not know what to do. I just wish the pineapple fell through the cracks to add some kind of dimension to the ground. It's a fairly decent physics game and the weather thing is definitely a nice gameplay feature. There's some kind of bug on the last level where sometimes the menu button pops up when you're still playing. Also it was a bit easy...I'm not that good at physics games, but I beat the entire game in about 8-10 minutes. Idk, it's kinda hard to give a good rating with a game so short and easy.
Thanks for the input everybody. I'll work on the pineapple falling through as well while I'm adding levels for the update. Also noted the menu on 16. Would you say the rate at which the difficulty increased was good or with more levels should it get stretched gradually. I guess I'm aiming for a game that is not just a hundred levels but smaller and more difficult so it doesn't get to be boring.
I think it's good for the difficulty to increase gradually. And I do agree with not having an insane amount of levels...I would rather have a good handful of well thought out levels that are fun to go back to rather than having a bunch of quickly done 100+ levels I'm just trying to rush through and not really enjoying each one. I think your app is a good start, but for me personally, I don't think there's too much challenge in it at the moment...I got the idea of the physics in the first couple of levels and how everything will fall and work to my advantage and I was easily able to get the pineapple to fall in a good spot level after level witout retrying it or without very many retries...except the last level. I can't help but feel it's kind of a "too basic" physics game that's missing a lot of things to make it worthwhile and challenging. Maybe you can add un-movable walls, or have one of the pieces bounce the pineapple if it hits it, or...I even had this crazy idea yesterday with rain effects. The audio is nice and the graphics are clean. I am looking forward to seeing how you expand the game with future levels, but ATM it was a bit on the easy and quick side...isn't it? Just curious what you think. I know it was a free gift, so thank you very much for the promo, but I just can't do what a lot of people do with promos and lie about it and say it was the most amazing app ever
Thanks Jeffyg3. I have actually been adding rain and something else into the mix. I'm trying to focus on this game before I go on with others. I want it to shine so the input really helps. May I ask that you hold off on your review until I update?
