This keeps looking better and better! I love the variety in enemies. I noticed a "Level 72" on the top of the screen, what does that mean?
Thanks! That is the current level being played. There are 100 unique level designs. After level 100 it wraps around. Although, it's fairly tough going when you get that high.
Ahh, so do you go back to 1 when you die? Or just the level you sided on? And when you reach 109 is your next play through harder than the first?
When you reach lvl 25, 50 or 75 you can start a new game at that level. The game gives you a starting score and extra lives when starting on higher levels. So, if you reached level 20 and lost all your lives / game over. You'd have to restart from level 1. But, if you got to level 25 and died you would have the choice of starting out at level 25. Yes, the game levels get progressively harder etc. So level 109 is harder than level 9. I should point out that it's the level design / shape that wraps at level 101 and up, not the enemy patterns.
I see I see, so still pretty unforgiving/arcadey. I like it are there any pick ups/power ups in the game? Like a rapid fire, longer jump, faster movement, etc.?
There is your main projectile weapon, the beam weapon and the jump. They all use power which is collected from enemies (that green bar at the top left). There is some strategy involved in how to tackle each level as each of the above consumes power at different rates. The more power you collect the faster you can fire. However, if you choose to active the beam weapon it drains your power fairly quickly.
Ohhh I didn't realize it worked that way, I actually prefer that to a basic powerups system! I'm sure it'll make a few teeth clenching moments So when our energy hits 0 all you can do is move, correct?
Sort of, you can always fire your main weapon (albeit slowly). The beam weapon isn't available if your power hits zero. At one point during development you could only jump if you had power, but that made the game less fun. So, right now jumping consumes power if you have any, but you can still jump if you none left. Also, enemies will only drop power crystals if destroyed by your main weapon. They don't drop anything if destroyed by the beam weapon.
That is up to the publisher at this point (soon but can't give you a specific date yet). But yes, you are correct - it's essentially finished.
