@devs don't know where to report bugs but it looks like one of the devs is active here so i post it here. it's more of an annoyance than a bug here you see an ammo crate just above the player but it's already hard to make out here you don't see a crate but there is one just to the left of the player you can see it drop but when the crate reaches the ground it gets layered below broken crates & zombie remains.
Every time I try to scavenge, I just get the menu to buy stuff with real money. After skimming these forums, I'm guessing you have to use a special coin to actually scavenge the bodies of dead players? This is confusing and I didn't see it explained anywhere in the game. This and other areas of the game, like whether buying weapons has any benefit other than the current playthrough, or what the weapon green bar thing means, just seemed completely unexplained. Also, how do I get coins in arena mode? Tried it twice with zero benefit and no explanation why. Is anything in the game explained? I know the hardcore gamers here have everything figured out, but for every one of those I guarantee you there are five more like myself, only most won't bother reading or commenting in here. I'm taking the time because I see real potential, but you're losing a lot of casual gamers with so much gameplay mystery. I'm sure you've created a great game here, but for the masses of us short attention span gamers that give a game maybe thirty minutes tops before passing judgement, this one scores a solid WTF? I'm also in the camp that believes annoyance timers of any sort are just a very stupid product mechanism. I'm not saying the game is good or bad or that I deserve anything for free. It's just a simple - oh there's a timer = dev is a douche. Anything that intentionally frustrates a consumer is completely bass awkwards in any seller/consumer relationship. There are a ton of better mechanisms to incentivize people to invest - content being the most obvious. All the rest of your IAP looks fine. Hopefully, you'll receive this as attempt to make your game better and garner the praise of a broader user base.
I believe the dev said the green bar under weapons is its leveling up status In the arena, in the top right corner, there's an empty space. As you kill and collect the gold pickups, it fills and begins forming a coin. Collect enough and you'll get a scavenge coin Also I'd think of the game as a fully featured lite version and the Survival Pack as $3.99 game unlock. With that pack, the game essentially becomes a premium game with no freemium aspects
Now @MrBradleyPants I forget to ask this during testing. How does the procedural generation work? Are preset structures just randomly placed or are environments even more randomized than that? And I forgot, what does it mean when the circle under your character turns green?
This game is insanely good, I'm gonna say that right now. I've lost a couple hours of my life to it already and I haven't even bought the survival pack, just depending on lucky scavenges. But what this game really needs is some sort of a comprehensive manual, like a true survival guide, that players can read and it will explain every mechanic and quirk in the game. It is kind of hard to get into because it is a unique game and on your first run, you don't have any idea what you're doing. I've made it to day 12 and I still don't exactly know what everything does, or why a crowbar is a one-hit kill but a machine gun takes four bullets to kill one walker. This game is ridiculously good. But some instructions or a better tutorial would make it even better.
Thanks for the input and I am glad you are enjoying the game. The survival guide that is there should give you an understanding of the basic UI and game mechanics. There are some areas, admittidely, where I think I can do better explaining certain things, but I wanted to stay away from explaining absoluely everything. I want players to be able to discover more as they play. That type of discovery will work better for some mechanics more than others, and that is what I'll look at. As for the crowbar vs machine gun, A crowbar isn't always 1 hit to kill. If you stand still you will glow green after a little while. this means your weapon is aimed and it is more powerful then it is while running and gunning. Some weapons aim faster than others and the stat is levelable on some guns, it is the 'recovery' stat. Shotguns do not aim at all. I hope this helps.
Without going into too much detail, we use a system of templates and rules for dropping types of objects in certain areas. The green glow is there to let you know that your weapon is aimed. When your weapon is aimed, it will be more powerful than when you are moving.
I never realized that, about aiming. This totally changed my style of play And I finally got the Survival Pack. When I was testing, I didn't use IAP and it was enjoyable, but damn with the Pack...that is the way the game is meant to played. Very happy to help out a great dev Hope we see more melee weapons and more environments. Would love to see areas like farmland or swamps/marshes, or more aread with buildings like a little road side strip mall or a prison. Now that's I'm really getting into the game, thanks to the pack, is the only reason to move to a different area because of hordes? Is there a goal/benefit to moving across the map or staying out beyond the 14 days? If you haven't, I'd recommend trying FTL on PC. There is kind of a similar overmap system, but you're constantly being driven to get to the next sector, to keep moving. Something like that could work for Trial, IMO. Plus it would be nice story justification for any new locations types you may add in the future. You leave the suburbs and towns behind, reach the farmlands, the coast, the marshlands, etc.
I also want more variety in the locations. I haven't found the UFO yet, but i found the truck and the safehouse. That was cool! You could get different buildings made for the game: hospitals, shopping malls, even an airport terminal. And different light conditions: daylight, dawn, night. Btw, getting to explode the cars is fantastic
Guys, don't forget to vote for Trial By Survival. I think it's going to be a close one between this and Mikey Hooks, but considering the reception TBS had been getting in the forums, I think it has a chance of winning
Touch Arcade forums' Game of the Week Voting Trial By Survival was successfully nominated as one of 10 finalist in Touch Arcade forum's Game of the Week poll. Voting will be open for the next three days. Developers may not vote for their own game(s). New user votes are subject to review. http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=200017
Voted for this This sounds like cool ideas. New locations like hospitals and a day/night cycle would be sweet.
Definitely. New locations would be great. Although in Upcoming, the dev had said that the night is too dangerous to venture out alone, hence the timers and why I think a hardcore mode or co op mode set at night would be awesome Also any chance of a third camera option, that's a bit more zoomed out? And maye a option to move buttons around? Personally I'd put the grenade, binos, weapon switch icons all on the sides so there would be empty space for the sticks, and I'd be able to move an switch weapons at the same time
Would love a challenge mode where you could have a GameCenter friends leader board, daily boards, or guilds competitions... But overall a really fantastic game and an absolutely great payment model. Thanks devs!
I really wish the weapon buttons were on the right side somewhere. I hate that you have to stop moving to change weapons. Maybe it's realistic (like you have to pause to open your bag and get out the gun), and that's why they did it? Regardless it's annoying...
Oh, didnt think of that. Actually if that's what it's supposed to simulate, I like that. Kind of how staying still improved your aim, a touch of added realism But still would like the option to move the buttons around
I've downloaded the game but haven't had a chance to play yet. The game sounds great and I'm tempted to buy the survival pack before even playing. Probably already been asked but was wondering about replay ability? How many hours can one get out of this?
Well I'd always recommend trying it first. But if you like it, get the pack. I beta tested and didn't use any IAP, but with the Pack, the game is so much better Environments are randomly generated ańd it can get quite tense when larger hordes appear. I've played hours already and others here have been playing for days and still enjoying it. Plus there's an endless Arena mode.
