Thank you for posting this as I was doing the same. Was wondering when I was going to see some houses
Hey guys, love this game, but my biggest complaint is I get locked in a loop of saving up to buy armor, and losing armor in the process. I can generally make money about as fast as I lose health past day 15. So, I'm considering buying 2 of the packs (only have $2 or I'd get survival pack), and wanted input on which is best. How is the dog? Is he worth getting? Really the timer doesn't bug me, just watch a quick ad and you're done. Thanks in advance.
Here's my two cents on the freemium or free to play aspect. Does this game have any consumables you buy? Yes. But they're not gone forever. So really, it's not a consumable, because you can use it agin every game. You don't lose your dollar into gems or whatever when the gems are spent, you still reap benefits as long as you play the game. Does it have timers? Yes. Are they outlandish? Not at all. Amateur Surgeon came out this week, and if you kill a patient or even retry a mission, it uses a blood bag. You have 3 bags, and they take 30 minutes to come back. 30 minutes! I have only seen about 320 second timer on this app, and it very slowly increases over time. Especially within the 14 day 'campaign' so to speak, I generally spend the timer on upgrading armor, buying weapons, browsing perks, etc. Is the entirety of the game unlocked for the $4 IAP? Completely and entirely. Nothing is left out. No more consumables to buy, no perks to buy, nothing. This honestly sounds like a demo game, wrapped up in an optional premium game. The devs aren't requiring you to spend $4 up front without any game play or trying the game out, they let you play the game, even beat the game and get on leaderboards, accumulate 'premium' currency, without ever dropping a single dollar. And they even give you the option to not buy the full premium cost if you don't need to, just buy what you need. I think the devs are awesome for that. I think this formula should be used more often, as it (and expansion packs) are the best possible use for free to play games. My two cents at least. Couple of personal suggestions, let us customize button layout. The weapon switching button is in a horrible place, I almost always take damage when I'm being attacked by a horde and trying to pull out a gun. I'd also like more consistent rewards from scavenging, because scavenging tokens are a pain to get. Best reward I've ever got was a pistol, normally I get 15-60 gears, and it's not overly worth my effort. And a couple times, I got the 'area clear' notice while there were still walkers (not car crawlers) out and about. A formal tutorial would be awesome too, spelling out how to place bombs, the depth of places to travel to, etc. But all very minor things. This game rules.
@Taclys - I think that was the most well written post about the pay model I've read. I'm trying to decide between getting the Survival Pack and getting the RPG 9th Dawn, but your post may have swayed me
If you want better rewards from scavenging, you're going to need to convince other players to die with better stuff on them. ^_-
I know for sure that there's one corpse with a barely used military rifle. I probably should have bought more armour instead
So glad it wasn't just me who was doing that On the up side there's now more game content than ever for me to explore.
@mrbradleypants can i make a suggestion for the next few updates maybe a few more weopans maybe a machete or a few more melee weopans and guns thank you
One question the bar that fills up when you use a weapon is that an Xp bar which is improving your weapon stats the more you use it? That's what it looks like to me but I read someone say (a couple of pages back) its how damaged your weapon is?
It's your proficiency with a weapon. In the weapon's stats, at base level, your weapon stats will be the ones in white. As you level it up to green, it will improve by wherever the green stats reach. As you level to yellow, then the yellow marks the new stats, and same as the red. That's how i understand it. Basically the more you use a weapon, the better your stats are with that weapon.
That's pretty much what I was thinking. Thanks One thing I wish the compass was a perk to equip or not there at all. as the way it is now its too easy to find the level exit right away. The arrow points you to the exit so you just go stand by the exit kill zombies until you need to escape, step on the exit and your away. I feel if you didn't have the arrow telling you where to go then you would at least have to explore and find the exit yourself. Personally I don't think the arrow should have ever been there. One more thing there needs to be something to make you move around instead of being able to just sit on the area next to home and then make one move to get back home, as I've found you can just stay in that one space away from home and keep going in to the forest, sitting next to the exit killing things then leaving and repeat. Just my ideas anyway. I'm used to rogue likes being real hard and punishing you for hanging around.
The current Humble Bundle is from Introversion Software; I say get that. While I was addicted for about an hour and 1/2...I dunno. Lack of immersion? Too much sameness? Usually I'm on the same page as most long time (older) members, but every playthrough felt a little too "samey", and the graphics being lauded must not be being viewed on an iPad Mini.
This is correct. You can see how the weapons improve as they upgrade in the weapon menu when you go to build or scrap one. One thing to note is that the weapons hold this stat when they are dropped in Survival Mode, so you can scavenge leveled weapons. In Arena Mode you don't lose your weapon level progress when you die.
In Survival Mode if you search an area 2 times, a horde will form on that point and you will not be able to leave. Has that been a non-issue for you?
It didn't seem to be much of a problem because its to easy to just move one location across and just run to the exit then back again. Well I'm not top on the leader board so I might just be talking nonsense but that's how it felt to me, if I wanted a high score I was going to have to just hang around the home location in case things went wrong. I'm still playing and discovering things so this was really just my thoughts after playing it for a while.
