Nice to see TBS getting some main site attention, about the pay model. Hopefully it will get more people interested
Awesome game! one suggestion that I have is to give a better explanation of the actual gameplay mechanics, and what the different weapon stats, and perks do. Some of them are obvious but some seem less obvious to me. Maybe use numerical statistics? Also im wondering what happens when you go home? im on day 22 or 23 and im right in front of the home area and I have about 17000 xp and 2000 parts or whatever but if going home just ends the game then I would rather wander around killing more hordes haha.
I have some apologies to make as it turns out this game is actually amazing. It does have some faults, but I've been looking for a true zombie survival game for some time now, and this is close as it gets!! Now, there are only two problems I have with this game: the controls and the price. Now, the dual sticks work fine as they are, however with limited ammunition aiming can be a pain. This encourages the use of the other option which seems really cool. You basically draw the line for your character to walk across, and tap to hit. The tapping is fantastic for precision, however the line drawing simply does not work on small devices such as my iPod touch generation 4. This is frustrating, and forces me to play with the dual sticks, which is still ok. I know the freemium model can be overcome with a purchase, however I don't believe in the freemium model and because of this I will not put a cent into this game. I'm really sorry to the fantastic devs, who I truly adore for developing this game. However, if a straight out pay to play version were released, I can assure you all that I will be the first to buy it. Who knows, give it a few more hours and I may give in and pay for the full game unlock, but I just don't want to encourage the devs to do this again, just as I don't want any devs to do it again. Amazing game though, and everyone should give it a download. Please, please, please release a paid complete version of the game!
I don't understand your statement. This game is fremium until you make the one-time IAP of $4 and it then becomes a traditional premium, paid game. Your "paid complete version of the game" is this one with the $4 IAP. I'd understand that you said "I don't like IAP", but not that because you don't like freemium, you're not going to buy the full game without counters. It's like going to buy a cake every morning, the baker giving you a piece to try and you stating "I like the cake, but don't like the way you try and sell your cakes. I'm not going to buy any cakes from you!" (but they're still delicious and you go there every morning to try them out over and over again). After reading the TA news about the payment models, I came here to read about the game itself and I think it's fantastic. As soon as I get access to a WiFi I will download it and try it out. If I like it as much as I think I will, I'll pay the $4 one-time IAP to transform it to premium. If I don't like it and I just want one play a day, I'll keep it freemium. Many games could learn from this system (Real Racing 3 comes to my mind...)
Your statement makes no sense. The IAP makes this a paid game not F2P so if you love it why not buy the upgrade I like this kind of pay to unlock feature as it makes pirating games harder so the devs actually get some money instead of people just stealing games. I'm not sure why you want a paid version over this pay to unlock feature? It's the same thing.
Because unfortunately, there are people who still believe that all IAPs are the work of the devil. It's a shame. There's no better way to address the matter than how Jared did in the KungFu Quest thread, so I'm just going to copy paste it. Here you go:
I get what you guys are saying. This is more 'free to play' than 'freemium'. Makes more sense to me when I think about it that way. I did just get mikey hooks and worms 3 (both of which are amazing) so I might wait a bit until I'm done with them, then I'll unlock the game and play the hell out of it. Thanks!
That said it pretty much perfectly, I'm worried about what I'm playing now and since there's very few iOS games ill be playing even weeks from now it doesn't really matter how I buy them. Most of them get deleted sooner rather than later anyway. At the end of the day there so cheap it's really throw away entertainment. If I want games I can play years from now ill buy console games. Which even then I've had a few games on xbla be pulled from the market, like recently I noticed all the tmnt games have vanished
They already did: buy the Survival Pack. From extensive experience, comments like yours are usually more accurately translated as, "Please release a paid complete version of the game so I can wait for it to drop to a dollar or go free." Almost every time somebody has claimed they'd pay more for a standalone app than an IAP unlock, they've been seen in the price drop forum days, weeks or months later thanking developers for giving away their games (and not just the game in question); they've conspicuously not bought games at their normal price, let alone paid more as they claimed they would. You probably don't want to be tarred with the same brush.
Haha nice I didn't even think of that, of course IAP don't get sales like normal apps. Which in turn means. No freebies but more money for devs and less annoyed people who bought the game.
I'm going to try and be polite in my comment to this post. And to eliminate any confusion, I am not part of this company, just an adult who loves this game and has a brain. Your post makes absolutely no sense. You love the game but since they let you play it for free you're not gonna unlock the premium features? I take it you're of the type that would rather spend your money blindly on a "premium priced" game without knowing if you like it. Have you ever dumped cash on a premium only to find out you didn't like the game and your money is now wasted? I get it, it's cool to hate on "freemium" games. However this isn't the kind that is "cool" to hate. This games price model is exactly the solution to many of those lame freemium games. It's essentially a premium title that you can experience for FREE with the option to unlock premium features thru IAP. I feel like I'm explaining this to my little nephew... And to the guy that said how to bypass the timer and you feel cheated because its there; you're the only one cheating anybody. You have a FREE primo title that some guys worked on for a while and your scamming them by bypassing the timer? Unbelievable. I feel like I'm in the twilight zone...
To the people who just sorted out my previous comment: I already addressed it. Now, what I was saying might not make sense to you, but I stand by it. Games like dragon vale, zombie garden, pixel people, etc. have ruined ios gaming because people actually buy their premium currency. This makes other developers seek out the same rewards. I mean, look at the Nimblebit for example. They make millions from their freemium games. Because of that, plenty of copies of their games (more so tiny tower) have come out to try and make a portion of their profits. Now this is just one example, but I think it shows what I was saying. It HAS been pointed out to me that this game is pretty different to that; I withdraw that comment. But at the time I was writing it I'd just had to sit through a two minute wait so I could keep playing the game. I think I've addressed that now, and I'd appreciate it if people stopped referring to it. Thanks!
True, never thought about it that way. Makes sense to me. Btw, a bit off-topic, but has anyone noticed that some EU iTunes games go for 0.99 instead of 0.89? I think we're going to suffer another price increase as last year. We're going to get the $1-1 parity I've always hated.
I think the problem is that people are seeing your first comment and thinking "Oh, I have to reply!!!!" Before getting to the end of the thread. Don't suffer One game I thought of when I replied to your first post was Pixel People. Unfortunately, that game stays away of my "transform to premium" view. Think it twice: what would you have left if you removed timers from that one? You'd build your city in 1h with all the clones and you'd be finished with the game, which would become very boring IMO.
I feel 'we've' created freemium, devs need to make money (talking smaller devs not huge great corporates) and sadly freemium does make a lot of money. If we buy games asap then devs wont feel the need to go freemium so much. To me a game which is free and has a $2.99 'unlock all' IAP is the same as a game which has a $2.99 starting price. Technically its an 'iap' but to me its just one price. Again the main issue are the cheapskates who wait for games to drop to a dollar or free. I see loads of users here and checking their post history they're all begging for promo codes, never saying 'i bought game x, its good....' etc. To me this is a nice indie style title and i want to support it. The second we lose all the smaller indie devs will be a nightmare
When you go home you lock that character into the leader board and he's done. If you die, you will make one hell of a scavenge with all that stuff.
