This is such a stupid poll and I have no idea why it's stickied. Edit: Phoenix Wright was an amazing game but it's a port of an old old game. Game Dev Story was also a port I believe. That game wasn't even using the full iPhone estate, putting this game on the list is really beyond me. Chaos Rings is missing because of what exactly? Seeing how it was made entirely for the iPhone, with still to date one of the best unforgettable plots, characters, dialogue and music for a RPG, not to mention being exclusive on the iOS platform. Sure it was released in Spring of 2010 (April?) but with its Retina update the game still looks great today. Unlike GTA:CW... There's no reason why GTA:CW should look / play worst on an iPhone 4 vs a PSP.
Because you can't decide on Game of the Year based on only 10 choices, when there are so many excellent titles out there. And we need to be able to vote for more than just one. Most of us probably can't decide for ourselves what's best.
OK, but people obviously preferred Cut the Rope to the 3 you just listed. Plus, Cut the Rope kind of represents the whole casual gaming section for the poll. The FPS section is already covered by MC2, so no need for NOVA 2. NFS Hot Pursuit is no weher near as good as Real Racing. I think this is an extremely well built poll
Whether a game was made specifically for the iDevices is irrelevant. I picked Game Dev Story because I still play it. CR was fun while I played it, but once you beat it there's no replay value at all. And I would beg to differ about the plot-it was a run of the mill SE plot line. Nothing new at all. People chose their favorite games, and if CR didn't make the grade, that should tell you something.
I don't think mini-games should even be on the poll. They're top-grossers, they're great fun for everyone, they're usually very creative, but they don't do anything out of this world, or accomplish anything never been done before and push the iDevice to its limits, at least not deserving enough to be game of the year. They're always a top 10 game, but they should NEVER be a #1 game imo, which is what this poll is about. I'd definitely remove Cut the Rope for something like Dungeon Defenders (which I've never played since I'm on 4.1, so don't "fanboy" me), which is the fastest growing topic in 2010 (granted, most of it is inconsequential chitchat). It's the closest thing to an online RPG experience... with actual graphics. Oh and voice options. And from the reviews, the deepest, most content-rich game to hit the iOS... ever.
I don't mean the above to sound like it's attacking your post, but yeah - your points did irk me a bit
Because this isn't Apple's GotY, it's TA's. If you're on these forums (with over 1k posts no less), chances are, you aren't someone looking for a quick fix. You take your games more seriously. Plus, who says IB isn't great for a quickie while shitting? Or maybe a quick race in RR2 on the bus? I mentioned creativity, all mini-games need to have it. Because they sure as hell won't dazzle us with amazing 3D graphics and tremendous amounts of depth. Successful mini-games, by definition, are creative. Look at Bejeweled, or Tetris. To reiterate: this poll isn't about grossing. The majority of people interesting in purchasing 0.99c piss-break games aren't on these forums. And guess what, the majority of people, in general, aren't on these forums, hence they gross more. TA is full of people that purchase games at release, we're the ones hyping up games, we're the ones putting games on the chart in the first place. Casual gamers need not apply. Apple has their own way of rewarding casual games that everyone likes. Wait, just because it's an online RPG experience, it needs to only contend for RPG and/or online game of the year? Real Racing shouldn't be on there, because it should only contend for racing game of the year. And let's not forget Aragon, throw that in the box with the other RPGs, it's not "Game" of the year, it's an RPG. Furthermore, check the polls. Cut the Rope, a top grosser, dead last at 1 vote (maybe yours? It was at 0 at the time of my previous post).
