Other than a futuristic concept for movies, the hologram seemed to be just a high profile scientific breakthrough with little significance to ordinary people. Since Dennis Gabor invented holography in 1947, it did not create a practical impact for many years. Although some form of holograms has been used to counter forgery in some items like software packaging, credit cards and compact discs, these are only simple applications in the grand scheme of things.
